Instead of wasting your money on yet another crappy service from a wireless carrier, just sign up for a Wells Fargo Visa card. The no annual fee credit card automatically insures your cell phone, at no cost, provided you pay your monthly wireless bill using the card.

Coverage may include up to four cell phones as listed on your wireless cell phone bill. The cellular telephone is protected against damage or theft for up to $600 per occurrence and $1,200 per 12 month period, with only a $25 deductible per incident.

Compare this to AT&T's offer, which costs $96 per year plus an $89 deductible per incident.
Until they open a bunch of accounts under your name and take a large dump all over your credit score.

Too expensive. $89+$8x12=$189 after 12 months. $129+$29=$158 w/d Applecare+. $149 out of pocket.
And if you get no insurance then you pay $129 for a screen replacement at an Apple store. Seems that the insurance is not worth it. I have had every iPhone and have only cracked the screen once. I paid the full price, but saved compared to having had insurance all these years.

Has anyone actual used the Wells Fargo coverage? Their fine print says that what they offer is supplemental insurance that may only kick in after all other insurance options, including home owners insurance, have been exhausted.
If you have to cover your homeowners deductible before Wells Fargo pays out then that's no deal at all.

Why do iPhone users bother with carrier insurance? It's so expensive compared to Apple Care. The only benefit I see is lost and stolen protection.

Actually, I have it specifically for that reason. If I should manage to break the screen then it would be an Apple replaceable item. I had a small nick in my older 6+ glass and Apple replaced it without any issues or surcharge. Because I always max out my Apple devices (i.e. 7+256) I don't mind the added cost of the warranties.

All of these insurance plans are serviced by the same company: Asurion. I've never had to use such coverage for a cell phone, but I did you my Chase card's coverage to reimburse me for the replacement cost of my PowerBeats2 Wireless headset which failed a month after its one year warranty expired.

All I had to do was upload copies of the receipt, warranty policy, and repair/replacement invoice/estimate and they sent a check to me for the full amount including sales tax within a week.

I understand accidents happen, but being careful with your phone that costs hundreds of dollars really goes a long way. I have had 7 iPhones now and have never cracked a screen. I have dropped all of them but since I use a case and just actively try to keep it nice, this has just always been a non-issue for me. Out of fear with the bigger iPhone 6 I even bought the SquareTrade insurance plan when it was on sale and never even used it. The rate at which some people break their screens is ridiculous so I don't really blame some of these insurance companies for the ridiculous prices they charge.

I liked it better when they just gave you the current phone as a replacement. Not that I was happy my 4s was replaced with a 5s, but once I got over the lightening cable thing I was loved it. then I cracked it and they gave me the 6s. I haven't had to buy an iPhone since the 4S :)

well aren't you special? accidents and life happens, it doesn't mean you are better than anyone because you've never cracked a phone. My phones have stayed in cases and both times my phone broke was because it fell out of my car and somehow directly on the screen.

I'm the same way. If I'm going to buy something, I go all in and buy the best version possible. With that said I sometimes skimp on the insurance because frankly, I've been burned by the Best Buys of the World too much. However AppleCare and Assurance are great programs that work exactly the way they say and usually go above and beyond.

Not special, just careful and I guess just less clumsy than some that keep having their phones fall out of their cars. :)

Screen replacements could include non-OEM parts? That sounds like a warranty fiasco looking for a place to happen if you later try to get the device serviced with Apple.

Save yourself the hassle of another add-on monthly fee on your wireless bill and just buy AppleCare+, folks.
I agree on the screen side of things, however, AppleCare+ doesn't protect you from LOST or STOLEN and/or YOUR OWN STUPID LUCK. I have been using AT&T insurance for years. Does it cost more, sure, but I think, in the end, I do benefit. For example, my iPhone 6+ started having issues with the screen not responding. Only work around was to reboot...EVERY DAY. So, since I was just out of warranty on it, I called AT&T, they charged me $99 and sent me a iPhone 6s+ in it's place, brand new. My Step daughter dropped her iPhone in a muddy mess at a high school foot ball game, Again, $99 and she had a brand new phone. There are pros and cons to both side.

Yes, that is why a lot of use the carrier insurance over AppleCare. But I won't ever use Carrier to replace my display, I would rather pay the $225/$112 to replace the phone or go to an apple store and have them replace the screen for $149

I would really recommend AppleCare+ instead. I sent my iPhone 7 in and within 30 minutes they had a replacement phone for me on the way. The whole process took just 2 days and only cost $140.
This is just an add on to the insurance plan. The insurance plan through the carriers gives you more, in my opinion, then AppleCare+ does. Just my opinion

Go back and read AT&T's deductibles, they are much higher on the iPhones, but the deductible is lowered each month you don't have a incident.

Apple care covers more than just a cracked screen.

Fair enough :). I used to be the judgmental person that wondered how people keep cracking phones. Now, apparently, it's just my upgrade plan ;)

Just wanted to share that I actually used the Wells Fargo insurance recently and it was hassle-free.
My son dropped his iPhone in the toilet and all I had to do was take it into Apple and get a diagnostic confirming the damage and an out-of warranty replacement quote and send that in along with copies of my AT&T bill and my Wells Fargo bill and less than 10-days later my claim was approved less the $25 deductible.
The AT&T deductible would have been over $200.
