Initially I would argue it is not worth it unless you routinely coming within 1GB of the current 15GB cap. If you're routinely under 12GB or so, def not worth the extra the $10.

When I read about others fretting whether 1GB is enough of a buffer from going over cap, I realize my LTE usage is quaint. I measure my buffer in terms of MBs.

Then again, I'm mostly on WiFi throughout the month except for when I'm in the car.

Sticking with our 20GB plan. We don't use it all... but even if we drop to the 16 GB plan we pay MORE money since they charge $20 a phone now. We're paying $105 for 2 phone/20GB with out 25% discount... We'd pay $107.50 (with the 25% discount) to drop to 16GB

Keep dreaming bud. I'm on the old old $30 unlimited data plan and I STILL don't have the ability to hotspot.

That was a factor for us giving up our unlimited plans a while back.... Instead of paying extra for my iPad every month... I dropped that and now use my phone as a hot spot. (And when it came time to upgrade my mini, I saved the money by not buying the LTE verson!)

We saved money all around.... I forget the exact details now since we did it a while ago.... but we've been completely happy with out current plan!

Meanwhile here in Latvia, we are paying € 9.99 for unlimited LTE data + € 9.95 for unlimited calls & messages. :)

So in total, that'd be $22.50/mo in equivalent USD. Fair enough. The value proposition is definitely there.

But Latvia is also the size of, like, Kansas.:p

I'd be SOL for a wedding that's 6 hours away that I have to travel to in 2 weeks.

Lots of folks replying to me describing their own scenario. Added this handy chart:

"AT&T boasts that many of its new plans include more data at a lower cost per megabyte than some plans it offers today."

Look!
Now you can have 1GB for only $30 with no overage fees.
We used to offer ONLY 2GB for the same price!!

How does this work if I was originally on the 10GB for $100, used a backdoor promotion to get the "double your data" to 20GB?

If I'm reading that right, you'd be switching plans, meaning you'd lose that promotion to double your data, because it would no longer exist for your account.

I'm in that same boat as well, with the 15GB option, doubled to 30GB. But the bigger question you need to ask, is if you are going over your 10GB cap. If you are, then you need to reconsider your options. If you aren't, they aren't going to force you off that plan.

BL.

Nevermind. I see AT&T is playing games again with it's pricing.

Let's show them, less money for more data, then add the money back on "phone service connection fee".

sort of the related question is 'was there an expiration date to the 'double your data' plan?

If not, it's hard to see this being an upgrade for anybody who signed up for it....

The price changes are pretty sneaky. Not a good deal for those grandfathered into the double data promotional plans:

Current grandfathered plans:
30gb: $130 + 4x$15 access fee = $190
20gb: $100 + 4x$15 access fee = $160

New plan:
30gb: $135 + 4x$20 access fee = $215
25gb: $110 + 4x$20 access fee = $190
16gb: $80 + 4x$20 access fee = $160

I would have to drop down to the 25gb plan to maintain my current monthly rate at 30gb! Also, the FAN discounts only apply to the data portion. By increasing the access fees, which are not discounted by FAN, they're increasing profits.

I wonder going forward, if I decide to add an additional line, will the access fee be 20 or grandfathered at 15?
Don't forget the 40 GB for $150 current retention offer. I was thinking about switching to this plan, but their Unlimited Canada and Mexico Roaming will keep me on the DTV Unlimited Plan. I got 5 lines.

I made an account to post this, as you can still get the 20 GB for $100 & 30 GB for $130. Retentions is the only department that can do this.

Also, add the Canada Roaming Bonus while you're at it to all of your lines. 1 GB of LTE Data + unlimited talk+text while in Canada. Mexico has a roaming bonus, too.

Am I the only one that thinks 1GB for $30 is ridiculous?
It's not $30 for 1GB, it's $30 for 1GB and unlimited calling and unlimited texting.

I'm sure some people who don't use much data will get hosed by this, but as someone on the 15GB family share plan, this works our wonderfully for me. I'll get 1GB more for $10 less. AND no risk of overage if I approach my data cap? I'm thrilled.

No one is getting hosed by this, they aren't making you change your plan...

I don't forsee an expiration as it would upset many subs. AT&T needs to stop the bleeding of postpaid customers, not continue it lol

That's just a shameless robbery. No, thank you. I'll stick with T-mo.
[doublepost=1471467896][/doublepost]I am pretty sure the conversation at AT&T went something like this:

First Exec.: Those f***** are starting to figure out that we're robbing them blind
Second Exec.: Hey I know! Let's create plans that look like they offer more when they are actually just as bad
Fist Exec.: I don't know... what if those dump f*** customers notice?
Second Exec.: Naa, we'll call the new plans Mobile Share "Advantage" so the stupid hoard thing they are getting something better!
First Exec.: Bingo! Take that T-Mobile, you w****

:p

I'm waiting to compare what I have with ATTWS now to what the new plans to offer on the 21st when they drop. I do have a DirecTV plan - the $20 plan - to take advantage of a bundle price deal, and will be looking at the 30GB option...

As to the Europeans and other non-US braggarts, let's compare our bills for transit or filling up our vehicle's fuel tanks or our monthly grocery bills.... Silence? Yep, I thought so...

So, as long you pay less for gasoline, it's okay you get raped blind on your mobile phone bill? Got it... Flawless logic :D

Oh look, ATT raised prices. Nice, the $30 2gb plan is usually perfect for most people.
