I went to a carrier the other day to check what offers plan they have..they said the starting point is 2 GB and bla bla, after they finished talking..I told them what about unlimited internet and they start laughing, I don't know what was so funny I was being serious :)

The unlimited portion is so bad it's unusable. I've got a T-Mobile plan and after you reach your high-speed data budget, the speeds become so slow even dial-up used to be quicker.

AT&T customer here. This is still such garbage. I'm ready to jump ship to T Mobile's or Sprint's unlimited data plans.

Ok, so I did some quick analysis:

My current (old) Verizon 2GB plan is $40/mo for 2GB, plus $20 for access. So $60.

Verizon's new 2GB plan is $35/mo, plus $20 for access. So $55.

AT&T's new 3GB plan (because 2GB isn't offered, and I wouldn't go down) is $40/mo, plus $20 for access.

So actually, AT&T now offers the better service for the same as what I pay now. Or I could continue with 2GB/mo with Verizon and save $5.

Meanwhile in France you have 50GB of LTE (including 5GB of roaming) for 19€/mo.

Yeah, I know, it sucks here. We in the USA have to spend spend spend to prop up the world's shaky economy. Thanks for pointing this out; we now have a presidential candidate who claims he is going to fix that for you.

Now remind us how we also spend too much for drugs and medical procedures.

Ok, so I did some quick analysis:
Verizon's larger new plans are interesting to me because in addition to the shared data, each line also gets 2GB.

So four phones Verizon's new 6GB/$60 plan actually works out to be a 14GB/$60 plan, which seems like much better deal than AT&T's new plans (6GB/$60 or 10GB/$80).

I'm guessing the extra 2GB per line is only a temporary thing?

Access fees are the biggest scam ever. I'm paying an additional $45/month on my bill for this bogus fee.
Actually, I disagree. While $15/mo. is high, in my opinion, I don't believe that Access Fees are unfair.

Otherwise, I'll put a SIM card in every device I have whether I need it or not. If everyone did that, then the carriers would have to eat a lot more overhead. By charging each device a monthly fee, it discourages people from squatting on SIM cards.

The funny thing is that they didn't really drop data costs, except for the plans above 15 GB.

Your chart is deceptive because they dropped access fees $5/smartphone on plans under 15 GB. So the first three points, mixing the series should be 50 (new 1 GB), 55 (old 2 GB), 60 (new 3 GB). You need to plot it in 3D to show the effect of more lines. Also, it's not a continuous function but a stepwise function. The shifting of the data buckets likely pushes people into a more expensive tier.

Right now, my family of 5 is on the unlimited plan, but most of us don't use it. We're wasting money. This is tempting. The newer plans are cheaper for us:

Old plan @ 25gb: 15 * 5 + 175 = $250
New plan @ 25gb: 20 * 5 + 110 = $210

Right now, we pay $350. A big difference.

From what I see, Verizon's extra 2GB/line only applies to the Large 8GB plan and up. So your plan would be 16GB for $150 ($70 + $20x4).

Check the line access fees. With that 15GB vs 16GB plan savings, if you have 2 lines, that $10 savings is cancelled out. If you have 3 or more lines, it's a worse deal overall.

Worse is subjective in this situation. If you are getting overage charges or are close, I would argue this is peace of mind.

I think the US is in desperate need of some healthy competition in the wireless service provider market.. :)

Sadly right now this is healthy competition. If T-Mobile hadn't started this trend and Verizon not followed... you should see the old, original share plans...

I'm on promo pricing, so this would cost me more than my current plan.

15GB for $130, promo-doubled to 30GB a month. 24% work discount. So around $100 before taxes/fees.

10 lines, at $15 each + $4.xx taxes/fees, so nearly $20 each, or $200 for all phones.

Current Total: $300 / month for 30GB

New plan:

30GB for $135/month - 24% discount is close to $100 a month before taxes/fees.

10 lines, now at $20, which will probably be around $25 after taxes/fees, so $250 for all phones.

New total: $350 / month for 30GB plus 128 Kbps unlimited...

Let's say I go for the 25GB plan.

25GB for $110/month - 24% discount is close to $85 a month before taxes/fees.

So the total for that would be $335 / month for 25GB plus 128 Kbps unlimited...

Obviously this plan is not for me.

DUde! You are EXACTLY describing our situation! 10 lines on promo 15->30GB plan except that my work discount is 17%. By switching to these new plans we would pay ~$50/month more because of the access charge fee increases. We occasionally go over our limit (but hardly more than 3GB) so I'd rather pay the ridiculous $15/1GB overage fee and keep my plan!

I was with ATT for years, but i'm in Tmobile land now. I can't imagine going back to ATT unless they REALLY lower their fees.

Wow these plans are actually slightly more expensive for me than Verizon. New ATT: 16gb $90 + 2 lines $40 = $130. Verizon: 16gb +2gb bonus each line $90 + 2 lines $40 = $130.

They had a special offer a while back that doubled my data and got me 30 GB for $130/mon + roll over. So, I'm already on a better offer than this with Mobile Share.

Plus my per-iPhone connection fee is only $15/mon, because they both carry installment plans.

I pay $268/mon for 2 iPhones (NEXT, 12 month upgrade) and 2 iPads to shared 30 GB of data + roll over. Can't beat it.

This is exactly the plan I'm giving up to get unlimited Canada and Mexico calling and texting, Mexico roaming, and no overages. I've almost exhausted my rollover twice in six months. I'm going to the 25 gb plan.

Is 128kbps really not usable for youtube and just streaming music? I don't care about the quality one bit, just that I can watch/listen to it.

I'm currently paying $70/month for 6 GB... I should either change that to $60/month for 6 GB or $80/month for 10 GB.

The most we have ever used in a month is ~9 GB... but rollover from the month before nicely covered that. We normally use about 4 GB in a month. So I think I'll just stick with the 6 GB plan.

Edit: Also, before I was getting charged $25/number. MacRumor's description in the article was that they charged $25/number for plans of 5 GB and less and $15/number for plans of 15 GB and more. My plan was a 6 GB plan, and they charged $25/number for it.
