Here's a scenario for you guys, and please tell me what you think.

I switched carriers from Verizon to AT&T on 3/29/2008. I knew at the time there has been rumors about the new iPhone 3G coming out "maybe" by summer and just get a cheap phone from AT&T til the new iPhone comes out. Now that were only less than a week away, I want to purchase the new iPhone on July 11th but at $299 for (16GB) model. Do you think AT&T will grant me this wish? I'm going to AT&T tomorrow to find out what can I do. My whole intension was to switch for the "rollover minutes" and of course the "new iPhone". Any thoughts?

Thanking you all in advance

Did you get your "cheap" phone at a discounted price?

If so, then no.

I'll just add another complaint to the list. The $199 price sounded great, but the plans are terrible. I pay $100/month for my smartphone with unlimited data and 300 texts a month plus a second line with another 300 texts. We share 800 minutes. I could talk myself into a slightly more expensive plan, but there is no way I'm paying $30/month for text messaging. How can Skype be free but a stupid text message is so expensive....

ATT and Apple would have a customer if the text messaging was included....

Ah well, I can't type on those soft keys anyways! :-D

Training with the iPhone now, keyboard is very overrated. There are still Apple employees one fingering that thing and they've had them since day one. After all that, I whipped out my HTC Touch and pulled up it's FAT BUTTONED XT9 keyboard and punched away.

Apple really needs to make both an XT9 keyboard and a landscape portrait for all apps. But I am sure that hack or 3rd party software will be coming soon.... hopefully.

People NOT getting an iPhone 3G ever?

I guess I am all out of luck as far as getting the iPhone 3G at all. I have bad credit so I use my moms account. Called ATT, they said she would have to be there to buy it... she lives on a ranch in New Mexico at least 4 hours from an ATT store, I live in Los Angeles.... guess im in trouble. Any ideas or advice?? A friend of mine has an ATT account with an equip upgrade, can he buy the iPhone for me, activate it on his account, then give it to me to use with my ATT sim?, then change his plan back to a regular phone plan??

Strange.... I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I never thought I'd be able to type on that little virtual keyboard on my Touch, but using both thumbs I've been having no problems. It took me a couple weeks to get used to it, but now I type nearly as fast on the Touch as I do on a full size keyboard. That often-repeated phrase is true: you have to learn to trust the keyboard. It will learn how you type and will correct minor errors on the fly.

And remember: the space bar is your friend. Using it to fill in words, contractions and punctuation cuts typing time drastically.
