Three main options:

1) iPhone Upgrade Plan (ordered thru Apple Store) - includes AppleCare, has to go on a credit card (no debit card), so then AT&T plan is then just data/minutes/etc. Only available in a 12 month plan in order to receive the next iPhone.

2) AT&T Next + AppleCare (ordered thru Apple Store OR AT&T website). AppleCare is paid in full at time of purchase. Monthly Next payments are in addition to standard AT&T bill.

3) AT&T Next + Mobile Insurance (ordered thru AT&T website) Mobile Insurance is a monthly cost on top of next payments. Not as comprehensive as AppleCare.

I have the ATT mobile insurance and it covers more than AppleCare does, theft and accidents, like losing it or dropping it in water. But, it's whatever you feel more comfortable with ;)

I have the ATT mobile insurance and it covers more than AppleCare does, theft and accidents, like losing it or dropping it in water. It also has a declining deductible. We had to replace my daughters iPhone 6 this year and we paid a $99 deductible that was just charged to our ATT bill, it was upgraded from a 6 to brand new sealed 6S. All done online and got the phone the next day with a prepaid label to send back the defective phone. I was impressed.

Thanks for correcting me. This makes it even more enticing.

Are you telling me that the Mobile Insurance is better to take than AC in every way? Which way would you go if you were making the decision again?

Thanks everyone! Quick questions....

But what I don't get is that if I get Next, I pay every month and i end up paying for the full phone price, correct? Where as before, I was only paying $400 since i was getting a 2 year contract. Does that make sense?

What is the best option and why? (See screenshot)...AT&T Next Every Year or AT&T Next. Also, I want to get a new phone later, I have to return my old one, correct? So I can't sell it anymore? Before, when i was selling my old iPhone, it was basically almost paying for the new one.

*Note that I am on a mobile share plan with 2 other iPhone lines.

Thanks!

Per line when you were under a subsidized contract you had to pay $40 per line x24 mo's = $960 plus $400 = $1360. On a Mobile share plan of 10gb or more and using NEXT it's $800 full price of phone plus $20 x 24 = $480 Total $1280. A 10gb plan is $80 for the family to share, so you weren't really getting a phone for $400 after all.

Ok so just did a calculation....

Here is my current mobile share plan for 5GB per month for 3 lines....I pay $212 per month.

If I get 3 new iphones with the AT&T Next 6GB plan, I pay $238....That includes the 3 monthly payments for the iPhones.

So I better switch to the AT&T Next plan, correct?
Assuming the numbers are correct, it sounds like you'd be getting 3 phones for $26/month, which would seem like a fairly decent deal (and even 1 GB of data more to share).

I am on ATT insurance. It really worked out well for me. My daughters iPhone 6 became defective and I went online and set up a claim, answered the short questions. It said will replace her White 6 with a Space Gray 6S (I guess they didn't have white so they upgraded) We said yes, because a 6S?? Yes please. LoL. It came the next day brand new in sealed box. They have a declining deductible so mine was $99 and they just billed it to my ATT bill. Didn't have to come up with any money at the time. They sent me a prepaid label to send her 6 back and that was it. Easy as pie (except the return carrier they use takes 3 weeks to get it back to them, so in the future I would just eat the postage and send it back Priority mail for piece of mind)

You get less of a discount per line for plans under 10gb ( I think is $25 per line under 10gb??) How much is the 6gb compared to the 10gb. You should calculate both scenarios
Well, certainly that person should consider all potential options. I was simply commenting on the two that the person shared.

I can't remember - does Apple allow AT&T Next Upgrades during the pre-order period?

I just did the math if I wanted to get a new 128 GB iPhone 7 Plus ($869):

- keep current unlimited data, grandfathered, plan ($90) and pay ATT Next an extra $36 a month for the phone: $126 / month
- switch to new plan and sign up for 10 GB of data, I average between 8-9 GB a month ($100) and an extra $36 a month for the phone: $136 / month

either way my cost is going up. for my current iPhone 6 I paid $400 upfront, and if divided by the 24 months that I've had it, I technically paid an extra $17 a month. so my previous monthly charge was really $107. if I want the new iPhone 7 Plus it will cost me an extra $19 a month.

Isn't the 10gb plan $80 though?
