Doesn't support the 6s? That's total crap.
TLDR: Carriers are scum.
Carriers aside - I think this was a specific human error - and one of ignorance. I don't think it was intentional. It was a screw up.

Yeah, I would seriously hope you get your UDP reinstated. They're pretty much worth their weight in gold now. As for the reason why they would set it to 300mb, I think it's SOP. Most who simply request to be moved to a "cost saving plan" usually get met with losing their UDP and get set to the cheapest Shared Data Value plan they have. That's exactly what I fear - some stupid reason for AT&T to just say "no more UDP for you". The instant that happens, I'm buying a crap load of SIMs and testing everyone but AT&T and make my way out. The power of owning an unlocked phone is immense! Best of luck, OP!
Unlikely. There have been numerous accounts from employees of pressure from management to "oops" people off of UDP plans, and I've even seen one claim that commission for a sale would be lowered if they left a UDP customer on UDP at the end of the transaction.Carriers aside - I think this was a specific human error - and one of ignorance. If a manager actually forced their employees to constantly F up somebody's cell phone account, they'd be fired and that particular store (and possibly even company) would have a major **** storm on their hand. What company did this...legit curious???Unlikely. That's just not right.I always do too.. I guess the whole return/new purchase thing threw me off and a data plan was never mentioned. This is also for my dad's line so I feel bad...
More than one VP, I think just a middle management person. 2108214105
If you buy a 6S out of plan (bring your own) and pop in a current sim your contract terms wouldn't change right? I'm asking for myself, my upgrade isn't until Oct. 2016 and I purchased a 6S+ on Swappa. I'm looking into just buying my own phones instead of getting them subsidized from AT&T because they seem bent on getting people off Unlimited when upgrading!
Pre-Ordered a SG 16gb S for my dad. I tried canceling my order on Monday the 21st, because he wanted the 64GB instead. I couldn't cancel the order, so I went to the store on the 26th to return and repurchase a 64GB. All seemed simple enough until I started getting email alerts saying my dad went over his data. I wondered how that was possible since he has unlimited data.
I called ATT and they told me that the plan was switched when he upgraded because the unlimited data plan doesn't support the new iPhone 6S. The idiot at the store went ahead and changed my dad's plan from unlimited data to 300mb. No wonder he said "I'll just email you the receipt". He never spoke a word about my plan changing.
ATT was adamant about not being able to have unlimited data. They opened a case for me per my request since I didn't give consent or authorization for a data switch. Even if I did, why the hell would I get 300mb?? Just goes to show that they didn't advise me or ask me. This is the second time they've taken one of our lines off unlimited data. It was such a headache getting it back that time. They swear it's that difficult to switch it back. If they can't do it then I'm just going to ask for a return of the phone so my contract and upgrade can go back to how it was and move my dad's line to TMobile. They even had he nerve to advise my dad not to use data until it is resolved, so we don't get charged overages!! I told them we pay for service and they changed my plan without consent and they better drop all data related overages.
TLDR: ATT changed my Unlimited Data Plan to 300mb after paying $299 for the iPhone 6S at the 2 year upgrade price. I have a ticket open and they "assured" me that it will go back to unlimited.
I'd have them take a look at when the data plan was changed. Are you sure it didn't change when you did the pre order? I'd double check if I was you.
Cool, glad you were able to work that out for your Pops.MINOR UPDATE:
Spoke with another rep before resorting to Retentions...
She assured me that you are able to keep UDP with the new iPhone 6s (which i already knew) and that it was an error on the ATT store Rep that changed the plan. Everything will be placed back to how it was and all extra charges will be dropped. They have until Oct 6 to resolve it, which again, she said they will.
I will definitely call again for some type of compensation for all the time wasted on their behalf.
Thanks everyone
All carriers can be bad, but lately AT&T has been the worse for me. I called in and got a price reduction, only to get a bill without a price reduction, called back in and they claimed I was lying that I got a price reduction and that no one ever talked to me.
Also horrible speeds on LTE with full bars in a major service area. Finally bit the bullet and switched to T-Mobile, and wow... Free insurance, cheaper plan and the speeds are amazing!

I'm wondering, if someone with Unlimited AT&T plan picks up the Apple upgrade program, they'll be forced out of Unlimited, right? Didn't I read that the only way to keep it is to go Bring your Own device or upgrade in AT&T stores only?
I had a similar episode August 20th 2015. I had sold my iPhone 6 Plus in anticipation of new iPhone 6S plus. So I went to official ATT store to get a new MICRO SIM for my spare LG G3 to use while the new iPhone 6S plus got released. Since iPhone used nano sim. And its a pain to use a sim adapter to convert from nano sim to MicroSIM (I ruined the SIM slot before on the LG G3 last year because a sim adapter got stuck but it was replaced under warranty).
Anyways, it was on a Thursday evening and I was rushing. I should have suspected some thing when I got an ATT email after leaving the store saying something about my ATT new plan changes. I was tired and didn't look over the email on my LG G3 mail app.
Next day friday, I got another ATT text noting my changes. I got suspicious and relooked at the email that was sent when I left the ATT store. and saw that my unlimited was changed to 3GB.
I was angry. I called ATT CS. They assured and opened a case for me and said it could take 10 days to get unlimited data back since I didn't authorize it. I also called the local ATT corp store where I got the new sim card. The manager apologized and so did the employee who did the transaction. He assured me he didn't make the change. However I suspect since he did those changes on the iPad when he was activating the new sim, he clicked on the wrong data plan.
And it only took 3 days to get unlimited data back. By monday I got a text from ATT saying my case number had been resolved. I logged back into ATT and verified I had unlimited data again.

Every time I make any changes or even just talk to ATT I make sure to check that my UDP stays intact.
