Surely you could find some WiFi to negate some of that data usage. What is your data use consist of.

True, I've left wifi off for much of the time since I got my new phone, to keep it from automatically downloading the 10.2 iOS - I have tvOS beta profile saved now tho.

When you have speeds like this, you don't rly notice it's still off :p

No doubt T-Mobile has some good plans on paper, it is just the quality of their service is not the same. My bill now is around 200 with att and even is T-Mobile was 75% cheaper I still wouldn't switch. They are a lot better then they used to be, but a lot better than terrible doesn't mean they are equal competitors when it comes to quality of service.

I wish I could make the switch for the savings, but just can't at least not yet. Maybe one day in the future I will be able to.

Have you tried them at all recently?
They made lots of improvements and changes to their network. I understand everyone likes to talk down towards them and think they are horrible but in reality they are not bad at all in my local area.
Do they still do those 30 day test the network thing where you can try them out and if you dont like T mobile you can return everything with no charges.

Yes, I have friends and family who currently have T-Mobile, they had switched within last year or two, and they have nothing good to say about their service when I asked if it has gotten better than the last time I had tried using it years ago. (I had a sidekick back in the day on T-Mobile)

They may still do the 30 day thing but to port number over try it out and port it back without any issues just to try it out may not be worth the risk. I hope they keep improving their network while keeping their current pricing, so one day they may be a better option for more people.

As you know, I ditched my AT&TT GF-UDP for T-Mo's high speed UDP under their Simple Choice plans. I definitely had better data coverage with AT&T. But then again... I remember when AT&T didn't have the greatest coverage either. I used to carry a Verizon Mifi device when AT&T sucked in locations. AT&TT got a lot better to where I could cancel my Verizon Mifi data plan. T-Mo isn't as good as AT&T in some locations, but it doesn't suck. Hoping it will get better in the future... like how AT&T turned things around. It can't get any worse.... right? My Data usage hasn't changed after I switched from AT&T to T-Mo. Lately averaging 50-60gb/mo. I don't think I would mind the AT&T UDP price increases.... but if it starts to get comparable to other providers, minus being able to tether, then it may irritate me a little. I don't tether much, but nice to know I have 14gb/mo if I need it... and without having to install a JB tethering tweak.;)

When was that in 1998? :)
The people that you know that switched to Tmobile they have been staying with them for a year or 2 with bad service?
You dont have to port your number, you can get a new number and test it out for 30 days and then decide if you want to port out or just close the line.
I know every place is different but Tmobile has been doing great things with coverage, plans and pricing and also having very fast LTE speeds.

I hear you.
Its nice to be able to tether "legally" now :D
And without having to worry about AT&T catching me unofficially tethering with a JB hack and removing my unlimited data plan.

I'm not a huge Att or T-mobile supporter, but I must admit that T-mobile grows way faster than Att or VZW. This is native (without any roaming partners, some of them are unlimited LTE data) LTE network improvement during just last month:

http://literalpie.weebly.com/t-mobile-maps.html

Very soon they will have USCellular as a VoLTE roaming partner and they will be bigger than Att. BTW: including free Mexico , Canada their coverage are better for me.

I hate that a lot of people jump to T-mobile, my speed is getting slower and I'm happy when people decide to stay with Att/VZW

Not quite that long ago lol, but yes it makes my point that I have not been with T-Mobile in a long time. The people I know that stay with their service do so mostly for financial reasons. Sometimes we buy or use cheaper things even though they are not the best due to cost.

Yes, it seems they are doing great things but it just hasn't made the difference for the user in my area, at least not yet I guess. I do use their service on my iPad, it is useable for when I need it, but the hassle to move my entire family plan is not worth it yet. Like I said I hope they continue to get better and keep their prices low and one day I too will make the jump.

edit: to fix errors (spelling/auto correct) I didn't notice when posting from iOS device before.

I have a spreadsheet where I've plugged in every single plan cost, fee, tax, subsidy, and discount that affects me, including the upcoming $5 cost increase. I've even included things like the $45 upgrade fee I pay every two years.

I'm effectively paying $64.475 per month. So no, I'm not switching because there is still nothing better out there.

You plugged in every carriers available plans?
Nothing "better"? There's definitely cheaper that's for sure.

I've considered AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile plans. I won't consider Sprint, as their coverage is not acceptable where I live.

I've considered MVNOs many times in the past (only ones that use an acceptable carrier's network), but always found some sort of gotcha that wrecked the idea so I didn't bother this time around.

I'm always on the lookout for improvement though. Is there an unlimited plan that you recommend I look into? Most advertised prices don't include taxes and fees, so to compare without the taxes and fees I'm paying $50/mo.

I'm staying faithful. Bill is 67 including taxes for 300 minutes, unlimited data and unlimited text. (I have tons of rollover minutes) and I never use them.

So this is my breakdown.
35+5 unlimited data
30 month 300mins
10 unlimited text

+25% discount fan. So tax and everything with the new 5 increase should put me at 72 dollars.

Can I get same service elsewhere? I'm in Dayton Ohio.

At&t is officially a history for me, just ported my main At&t numbers over to my GF T-mobile plan.

Att is penny wise and pound foolish.

I wish At&t all the best!

Be happy that they didn't cancel it altogether. They're not bound in stone to keep.

Yes we should all be worshipping AT&T that they didn't cancel their "unlimited" data plan.
Please take my money AT&T.
Guess what? The customers are not bound to receive service from them either.
There's plenty of other options out there and the 2 big carriers are feeling the pressure.

Great, so now it's getting bumped up to $40, aything to get us to give up our UDP. smh
Better than what Verizon did. They bumped it up by $20 the first and only time they increased the price. Even though this is the second time AT&T has done it, it's still $10 cheaper than Verizon at the moment.

There's also no limit to how much you can use on AT&T. Sure, you might get throttled after around 22-25GB (I forget the actual number) only when the network is congested in your area, but you're free to use as much as you want without consequence. Verizon is still unlimited with no throttling, but they'll kick you off at the end of the month if you use more than 200GB.

Att not carrier of choice right now
Maybe after time warner deal they pick up accounts. Proof is that they keep losing hundreds of thousand customers each quarter

Why not upgrade directly through Apple and avoid the upgrade fee?

Yeah I know, which is the reason why I haven't switched to another carrier (as much as I complain about AT&T pricing). I wouldn't be surprised if AT&T increases it once again next year, Verizon took the aggressive approach, however, they make up for it by giving you essentially a 200GB cap (can't imagine ever using that much unless you're tethering).

TBH I barely reach 3GB/month since I'm on WiFi for most of the day (home/work) but I'm still holding onto it. In the coming years the consumption of data is only going to increase.

Yeah, 200GB is plenty for me. I was struggling a little to keep it under 100GB when that was the rumored cut-off, but 200GB is easily manageable, especially since I also have unlimited data on AT&T to offset some of that data.

You need not port the number until you are ready. Where ion NJ do you live? Near NYC? We took a trip a year ago and the reception was flawless. Granted we were in NYC more than jersey.

Also important to note that you will want to test with fairly recent hardware. If we are talking iPhone you'd want 6S or newer due to the bands they utilize. Absolutely not saying your friends are wrong or don't know what they are doing. But my in laws all brought over 3-4 year old Verizon phones (they keep their phones until they fall apart) and were disappointed by the coverage in SoCal. When we went to visit it was a night and day difference with our hardware. I was actually kind of jealous. I still get 4G with TMO in new england more than I would like. SOmetimes even edge! Never saw that anywhere in socal. And we drove from San Luis Obispo to San Diego during the trip (as reference in case anyone from the area is reading).

Even though I basically just waxed poetic about tmobile, I have had my fair sahre of gripes with customer service (always nice though often no knowledgeable) as well as their billing. Last month my credits didn't come in and I paid $243... this month it was $166. My bill is like a roller coaster lol. We currently pay $120 for four lines of service, about $135 after taxes. Officially it is 10GB per line with unlimited streaming, however they have given us a promotional unlimited data on all lines until Feb 2019. I'll take it!

I'm so not happy learning about AT&T increasing my unlimited data plan another $5 per month. We just had a $5 per month increase last year! In that first increase AT&T popped off about how this was their first increase in 7 years. Apparently now it's every year! I've had AT&T for a very long time, but now I think it's time to find another carrier.

I am sure that ATT knows it will lose some customers or it would not be doing this.

I switched from AT&T UGP to T-Mobile and haven't been happier!
