I upgraded from an iPhone 4 with a grandfathered unlimited data and unlimited messaging. Upon activating my iPhone, I noticed I had no data. I called AT&T. At first, they said I did not activate it properly. Because I was unlimited data, I needed to call in to activate my phone. I called that bull and said I did the iTunes activation as their website said. Next they tried to tell me that I did not transfer my plan from my old phone to my new phone. I again called that bull. How can I have an iPhone without a data plan? And if it did not transfer then why did my voice plan?

In the end I ended up getting a temporary 3gb data plan and having them throw unlimited messaging back on while "they look in to it".

I am not impressed.

Same thing happened to me. I bought mine from the online Apple Store. It was a problem that their "Unlimited" data plan didn't match anything in the AT&T system. It's fixed not. I called yesterday to confirm that my Unlimited is back on my account and that the temporary 3GB plan was removed.

I have the same issue but apparently it was due to an AT&T "system glitch". I did a cross upgrade yesterday and everything went fine. The agent was knowledgeable and when done, I did #DATA* and it showed my unlimited data- so did att.com.

This evening I get an email from AT&T saying that I changed my address, which I didn't so I log into my account and see that my UNLIMITED plan has magically switched to the 300MB data plan.. WTF??

I call CS right away and the rep tried to add it back as he sees that Ive been grandfathered for years but the system won't let him. So he opens a ticket that should be "resolved" on Oct. 2. I asked to speak to a Manager as well becasue the rep seems incompetent. Get on the phone with the Manager and then the call drops... he doesnt call me back.

So I call back and get a very nice agent. She assures me that this happens all the time and I will definitely be getting my unlimited back. She moves me to the 3GB plan as a tide over but says that I won't be charged for any data charges this month due to the glitch. She says that she will also call me on the 3rd to confirm.

I hate leaving my fate in the hands of AT&T but as of now I see no other workaround. We'll see when the 2nd rolls around what happens and then I'll take the next step. It's just so frustrating to have to spend hours on the phone to get back what was originally yours. Hopefully it all works out.

This EXACT same situation happened to me. Did the cross upgrade, double and triple checked that I still had unlimited data before I got off the phone with the rep. A couple days later I received the email that my email address had changed. So I logged in and everything seemed fine. All of a sudden yesterday I kept getting texts and emails (9 total) within a couple minutes of each other saying I was "getting close to my 300MB limit." Then another and another. Then a couple that said that I exceeded my plan and will be charged the overage fee for another 300MB and the cycle keeps continuing. So I called AT&T and she did see that somehow my plan was changed and made a trouble ticket. She said my unlimited data should be fixed within a few business days and gave me a $40 credit. So far the overage fees have not shown up on my account. Although I am pissed about what happened, the AT&T rep was very nice and seemed relatively knowledgeable and assured me 100% that my unlimited data would be restored within a couple of days.

Just as an update, I got my unlimited data back yesterday. Which should give hope to those waiting, or those that it happens to in the future.

Good luck.

mmmm, I just went to the website to chat with the data support, I got this:

Data Support

Hours of Operation:
M-F: 8 a.m.-11 p.m. ET
Sat: 9 a.m.-9 p.m. ET
Closed Sunday

I believe you have a billing issue, not a data support issue.

Actually, you can log in and see your account and avoid dealing with the call in. I hate dealing with Cust Svc Reps.

I have just received my iPhone and had trouble activating it. During the activation process it would fail the iCloud back up. After I managed to get at least the home screen up I noticed a e-mail in there from Apple telling me to call them to activate the phone. I guess when doing so the rep activated my phone as new and deleted my unlimited plan.

I spent an hour with an AT&T rep on the phone and they said my resolution should happen before Oct. 9th. I plan on calling back tomorrow to see if I can get it resolved since it's already late at night. I have been a AT&T customer for over 10 years (while they were Cingular) and this has been the 1st bad foul up for me. I really need that unlimited plan even if they throttle it and not allow facetime. At this point the unlimited is everything. There has got to be more people with this issue that we can bring up to hit major news networks of what is happening.

If they said that they will resolve it, then they will. I had a similar issue and my unlimited data was changed to a 300MB plan. Spoke to a rep and they opened a ticket. She had been with AT&T for a long time and said that this issue is more common than you would think and it is always fixed. Made me feel a little better. This happened on the 22nd and they said it would be resolved by Oct 2. They had my unlimited data back by the 26 and I received a message from AT&T confirming this.

No news networks needed, you issue will be resolved in time. Be patient.

I hope your right. I think I should be persistent but nice and try calling every few days. It's terrible that it happens and I hope AT&T will make right this strange situation, since I did not consent to have my plan changed.

When I dialed *data# and got the text message it says this:

Data (MB) 34.24 of Unlimited
Data (MB): 260.73 of Unlimited (Deactivated)

Why the heck does it say "(Deactivated)" ???

Edit: I have 2 phones on my account so I'm not sure if it's showing the 2 phones or if the 'deactivated' one is for my old iPhone. I'm thinking it's the former because there's no way I've only used 34.24mb on my new iPhone 5.

Because they deactivated the 4G data plan and activated the LTE. That's it.

TO others that lost the plan...be nice and it will be restored. Be a sh-t and they dont have to do anything for you. You dont want to hear them say "Sorry, nothing we can do"

since we're talking about AT&T data plans here.....

Since we're talking about AT&T data plans here.....

So I upgraded my iPhone 4S -> iPhone 5, and my data features also upgraded from "Data Unlimited for iPhone 4S" to "Data Unlimited for iPhone on 4G LTE" as expected. Anyways, for various reasons I won't discuss here, I sold my iPhone 5, and got a replacement micro-sim from AT&T to use my iPhone 4S again. It's been a couple days now, but I still see on the AT&T website that I'm still have the 4G LTE unlimited plan!

Does this mean that I have up to 5gb (instead of 3gb) before I get throttled? :D
