Total lack of competition.

Here in the UK mobile contracts are dirt cheap, the SIM cards are free and there are no BS admin fees.

To my American friends, check out Mint Mobile or Red Pocket. If you are looking at affordable contracts.

Just looked up my £19 per month 10GB 4G/LTE data/unlimited voice & SMS EE service in USD; $24.87. No admin fees, no spurious service charges. 12 month minimum commitment and that’s it.

People quoting three figure monthly bills for 2 lines in the US?

When I was with AT&T, I felt like all they cared about was their bottom line. They were the extremely greedy company that wanted to squeeze out what they can from the customers they relied on. Because of that, along with the worst customer service we've dealt with thusfar, we decided to switch.

My money went to T mobile instead, they are the ones to re-introduce the unlimited plans, sprint followed suit, and forced the hands of ATT & Verizon to follow. T mobile also offered free netflix, and guess what? the rest followed sprint& hulu, ATT & HBO, Verizon is still in the dark ages with it. And T mobile with their flat pricing just makes sense. Dont quote me $45 per line and then tack on extra when the bill comes. They know what their taxes and fees are, just include them in the price (but they dont want to because its harder to say "only $70" per line for 4 lines...). T mobile has been more about trying to help their customers instead of screwing them over. Granted I had slightly better phone service with ATT, but definitely not worth all of the BS.

Millennials: "How dare companies only pay their employees $15 an hour! That's not a livable wage! Let's vote people in to make a law to force companies to pay more!"

Also Millennials: "Wait, you mean us customers have to pay these increases?"

You'd need to port your phone to a different carrier before then. Generally it doesn't take 2 weeks but it can take up to that long for them to approve the unlock. You'd be best off buying a cheap refurb phone for $25 in the meantime so you can at least make calls.
Ok but I just don’t see how there gonna let me go with about $4000 worth of phones. And not pay for them.

Apple: give us an extra few hundred dollars per iPhone so we can give more billion$ to our shareholders and bank accounts.

Customers: Woo hoo! Take my money!

-----

AT&T: give us an extra $1.23 per month so we can keep expanding services.

Customers: What an evil company!
Probably cause my damn bill is so high every month. Not to mention my services have significantly gotten worse.

They increase things by 67¢ a month and MacRumors people lose their minds. Might be time to get rid of that $1000 iPhone if things are that tight for you kids.

$1.99 - $.67 = $1.32/mo increase per device.

$1.32 * 7 devices = $9.24/month increase or $110.88 per year.

Thats a huge increase with nothing gained in return.

To those that are calling in and getting a monthly credit, what is the ‘core argument’ you are using when requesting this? Are you going in asking for a monthly credit or just calling to complain? I’m thinking about calling so just wanted to get some more input from others that have done so.

I don't know what else there is to understand. I presented you with the AT&T user agreement that you signed and showed you EXACTLY where it says you can leave them and others have confirmed that they've been able to do so without issue but you're still questioning it.

You obviously don't want to leave AT&T as much as you claim. If you did, you'd simply call them up, cite your contract and section 1.3 which clearly states you can opt out of your contract and keep any phones you have. I can't do any more hand holding. It's a stupidly simple concept.

That analogy doesn't hold at all. If Apple was marketing the same iPhone from 2007 with a three hundred dollar higher price tag, you would balk too. All I can see is that AT&T has a huge takeover bill to pay.

Double-speak:
Prepaid customers are not required to pay the administrative fee.

In a statement to CNBC, however, AT&T said that the fee is standard across the wireless industry: "This is a standard administrative fee across the wireless industry, which helps cover costs we incur for items like cell site maintenance and interconnection between carriers."

...so prepaid customers don't use cell sites requiring maintenance?

Of course the whole concept is laughable to begin with even if the fee did apply to prepaid customers as well, since the money I pay for monthly service should be going towards maintaining their network. Either they are pathetic as a company at budgeting revenue, or they are simply greedy as$hats. Pretty obvious it's the latter.

I presume the issue here is the difference between a contract with an early termination fee and money still owed for phones financed through AT&T next.

Oh yeah because the pay inequity in the company doesn't exist...I hate these oversimplified Millennial rants.

T-Mobile will follow Verizon and AT&T suit when their network is better. Just a matter of time.

T-Mobile will be the same evil when they think they are on the same level with both. Just a matter of time.

Not on my bill. Verizon is the best.

Get ready for all incoming inconveniences and hidden baggage. You get what you pay for.

T-Mobile with limited or no signals inside vast majority or buildings and between states, cities, off course will offer cheaper price. They are good for those who live in predominantly metro areas.

Are they perfect? Absolutely not, I've griped to them about various dead zones with no feedback or BS "we've fixed it" quotes. Though that's no better then ATT. I've used the ATT "Mark the spot" app for years marking dead zones and have had ZERO of them improved.

And yes, T-Mobile is better in my area then ATT. But I live in the Chicago area, so if that's the way it is I'll be happy to leverage the lower cost and better network that affords me.

No I just know how AT&T is I’ll leave them they will send me a bill for about $4000. The guy above stated I had to pay the loans off on the phones.

[doublepost=1530196229][/doublepost]You were the grumpy old man ruining someone's day. Im gonna be honest no one cares about you complaining, so if your not happy with the increase go to another service provider, its that simple.
[doublepost=1530196323][/doublepost]

No one cares, if you can't afford it, just go to another service provider....

Ahh how sweet. You cared enough about my complaining to post and complain about it. Thanks for being honest. Does that make you the grumpier old man complaining about my post? Hmmmm...

I don't need to go to another carrier -- I know how to get things fixed when people try to jack me.

Unfortunately, if you don't like my posts, you are gonna have to move on to a different forum. Because honestly, there is nothing you can say to get me to stop sharing my opinion, so you are kinda out of luck.

Nice work. I just called in and got a permanent increase of 5gb per month and a one time $25 bill credit. Better than nothing I guess. The first customer service person had to forward me to the Loyalty Department. Took about 20min.

nice -

now maybe you will have to endure a bunch of hate from AT&T employees posting to macRumors like I did -- these folks are all "you are just ruining some poor customer service rep's day" and "if you don't like the fee then switch carriers".... sounds like sour grapes because they don't know how to fight back.

people gotta realize that their patronage has value. if somebody does not value your patronage you complain and give them the opportunity to make it right -- if they still won't listen then you find the best alternative that doesn't spite yourself.

when I switched from Cox to CenturyLink, I was lucky that CenturyLink had fiber in my neighborhood. most of my extended family does not have that option and Cox is still the best internet choice for them because CenturyLink DSL sucks.

AT&T doesn't even bother any more with customers and will help you cancel instead of actually giving credit it seems.

The math seems off... $800 million in additional revenue divided by 64.5 million subscriber = $12.40 additional per subscriber. Do they mean $80 million in additional revenue? That would make more sense. Or someone please tell me my math is not right.

I voted with my wallet a few years ago and switched to T-Mo (it's a solid service in my area but it's probably not an option for rural folks). I'm still happy with the service and T-Mo seems to like having happy customers.

I did the same. Network is faster but converage varies in my experience. It has gotten much better over the years.

Honestly I wouldn’t mind if it was bad since it’s a ton cheaper plus I can use a hotspot and roll over data or something. All I know is I don’t have to worry about my usage or bill. Att I had unlimited since iPhone 1 and would have to watch to get throttled. Maybe 2 times a year I would consume more than 2gbs when on vacation or traveling. Scumbags.

Just called to ask if they would waive my ETF. They assertively told me these were government fees that they are not in charge of. While being transferred to a supervisor I was ‘accidentally’ disconnected.

You're gonna be pretty upset when you see all the other providers doing this too. This is the return to business that Trump and his FCC promised. You'll see the others doing the same too.
For sure. Some, like At&t and Comcast, will take it further than others. Which will require a response from a real president. This is all temporary. Well...mostly.
