If you got a confimation e-mail, you DID get a straight answer from AT&T. Why are all you people letting your blood pressure go up like this? AT&T said they are shipping it overnight so it arrives as early as Friday. That means there is NO REASON for them to give you shipping information before they actually ship it. If they did, all you would see are threads of people complaining their package hasn't left the factory yet.

If they ship it priority overnight tomorrow, then you will get the tracking number tomorrow.

I honestly think they did it with the intention of people buying more phones from them versus Apple. Apple promised us the phone on the 19th. ATT knew they couldn't get ALL of them to customers on the 19th....so what do they do?

Use some deceptive marketing. "As early as" the 19th. Sure, we all know it means that it could get here later than the 19th....but they wanted to make it look like Apple's statement so more people would buy phones directly from them.

That's what I think.

"As Early As June 19" means AT&T plans on shipping it priority overnight shipping on the 18th. That means if it shows up AFTER the 19th, it is the carrier, not AT&T.

I understand what your saying but at the same token why don’t you throw a bone to the online orders and say hey, we got our stock in today, and one for you will be shipped out tomorrow overnight. Right now, I think a lot of people are confused because AT&T was very non-committal with availability.

I put my order in with AT&T online on Wednesday (6/10) evening. I still see "In Progress" with no other information (although it's not marked as "Back-Ordered").

The thing that's interesting/concerning to me is that I had to call them on Friday to ask because there was no tracking information up on the web page. It seemed to me that it took a little longer than it should have for them to "check," including having to transfer me to someone else in "Priority Customer Service." They insisted that everything was OK with the order and blamed the lack of online order information on the volume of orders. However, my "order date" is now listed as 6/13/09 (i.e. Saturday).

Did they screw up the order the first time so the actual order didn't go through until Saturday? Is there any danger I didn't get in under the "cutoff" for delivery on the 19th? Am I just obsessively worrying about nothing? :)

Case in point for what I was saying about AT&T’s silence on the whole ordering situation for online pre-orders

That's flat out not what I've been told, as well as other people here.

Don't get me wrong, I want it to ship on th 18th. But I've been told it will go out Priority at 5am on the 19th, and people will get their phone Saturday or Monday.

I get what you are saying, but you have to look at it from AT&T's POV. They've confirmed your order and told you they will ship it priority overnight to arrive by friday. If I'm AT&T, there's really not much to add to that. AT&T may not be posting the shipping codes because FedEx/UPS may not have given them to them yet. And why should they for a package not being shipped until tomorrow?

The only place I've seen the 5AM thing is on blogs. I have not seen an official AT&T statement making that claim.

Your package is on time with a scheduled delivery date of 06/19/2009.

This is the current UPS status for an AT&T IN-Store order. If they hold the actual delivery until friday it looks like the pre-orders will NOT be getting phones at 7AM.

NOOOOOOO, a straight answer is what EVERYONE else got:

APPLE: orders WILL arrive on the 19th.
ATT IN STORE: Get here early Friday, your order will be waiting!
BEST BUY: Sure, pre order, and pick it up Friday when we open!

I give up. Complaining about it isn't going to make it change and harassing AT&T's customer service isn't going to make them work faster.

When I get my wife's 3GS on friday, I'll be glad I didn't worry to death over it.

What blogs? I was told that by an ATT sales rep, and others have been told that same thing as well.

Understand....I want it to ship on the 18th, for 19th delivery. I'm just telling you what has been said to people here regarding ATT online orders.

If it ships on the 18th, you and I can celebrate together.

If not, I promise I won't say I told you so.

I get your point, and agree. Complaining won't make it change this time, but maybe next. As for ATT reps, they are either not able to listen to what management says, or management is not aware of what the situation is (hence the changing stories). I am not a big fan of under promise and over deliver.

I’m not really that worried but I did make sure to have a contingency plan – Best Buy – just in case. :D
