Yeah as was in a Dallas store today buying a case and it was acting a bit sporadic. Transaction went through on the second try however. :)

Not knowing what you're signing on the little computer screen and not having a contract are two different things.

So you're saying that ANYONE can just walk into AT&T store and pay $299 and get a phone. Great! Why didn't you tell us earlier?!

No, I just re-read what I signed. Only thing I signed was a CC auth form for the cost of the phone. Now I am pretty sure they wont let me walk out of the store without signing a contract but that is a different story. I will update you tomorrow when I pick up the phones.

Hello Forum, new poster and brand new to iPhone!

I waited the what seemed like eternity for my DF to arrive. I smiled this morning as the FedEx site told me my package had been signed for and delivered to my store.

So I get through morning clinic and call ahead to tell them I am driving over to pick up the phone. Whooa! they reply...not so fast sir! We have to confirm that we have your phone....no no not physically, but "in our system". Well ok I dont say anything over the phone, just tell them I am coming in ( AT&T corporate store ).

I get there and "the computers" are down. I go through the song and dance with the floor folks and middle management. I am not about to take no for an answer so I ask to speak to the head honcho. All around me the floor folks are saying this and that computer dont work and they cant do anything.

Lady comes out and says we cant give you the phone, it MUST be activated in store and the system is down. Maybe tomorrow....TOMORROW!!! Never shouting, but insistent I reminded her that on bad launch day folks were able to take home phones and use i-tunes activation.

She tells me for 10-15 more minutes how its "company policy". I told her hey if company policy is whats stopping me from leaving with this phone then show me the policy. This results in a very flustered manager. She states also that she "cannot contact" her corporate as the phones are busy there. Hehe that got a chuckle from me.

So she realizes that I aint going away easily. She comes back with one sheet of paper and points to a highlighted line that states all phones must be un-bricked prior to leaving store. I calmly point to the very next paragraph that outlines this procedure....number one, make sure you have the i-tunes icon on your screen! I turned to her and said do you see this? I HAVE this at home.

She then says well ok, I will take "personal responsibility" for this and let you take it home in the box. I reminded her that my name is on the shipping label and they have debited my card allready, but however she wishes to save face is up to her. I leave with my iphone.

I wasted so much time arguing to get the darn thing that I didnt have time to activate before the afternoon. So after clinic I come home and about 6pm I get it activated. Took all of 5 minutes! I called the store, computers still down and maybe they will be up tomorrow. heheh

Then I notice on the sync page...fricken AT&T changed my WIFES phone number to the iphone, not mine. After I reitterated that phone number to the original DF taker in the store way back when, and the phone number on the fedex package has the correct number! ARRRRGH!!

Did I mention that the stores around me close at 7pm, and there is no apple store. I call AT&T and the operator actually fixed partiall problem, now my wifes phone has number back and a 3G sim card! I get a free sim card from corporate stores but guess what they are closed.

Operator agreed I got poor service, but should have no problem getting the sim card tomorrow. She also agreed that the manager saying that they absoutely had to keep my phone there was boooogus as the car guys say on npr.

Ok I got it out of my system! Moral? Dont go to the local Destin, FLorida AT&T store and expect much of anything about customer service.

Wow you are such a pain in the ass! Why do you have to throw a fit in front of people who are obviously just doing their job? Were you going to die unless you received the phone. I don't want to sound mean or anything but if I was working there, I would have punched you in the face and quit my job lol.

Telegence is still working... for activations and stuff. Opus is for selling things though... so whie we can activate we just can't sell stuff. Unfortunately these two actions are highly related...haha...

What a PITA customer. You've obviously never had to work retail! The manager, dealing with all the other problems going on, was probably just doing as she was instructed. Instead of waiting until THE NEXT DAY, you proceeded to argue and play the "customer is always right" card. And what did all of this impatience and arguing get you, an extra day with your phone. Congrats.

He was there. His phone was there. He could activate the phone at home. The only reason for this policy not to let him go home with his phone is to protect their monopoly over this device. I'd say good for him to have argued his way into taking it home! Why should a customer have to go through the inconvenience of coming back the next day just to help protect a company's monopoly?

I just called to activate my GF's 3G while she was getting for work, now they say they won't do it over the phone because "it misses a step that can brick your phone" and now she has to come on to do it. Lame. That was from the managers mouth too.

Right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

@ curmudgen. Wow. I hope you feel special. You stuck it to the man! Actually, as triumphent as you might feel, all you accomplished was making the manager's day even more chaotic and stressful. I mean seriously, you couldn't have waited one more day? I've fought AT&T in the past too, and I know who to pick my battles with. It's not the store managers, because they have no authority to override any directives that come from the higher divisions of at&t. She probably let you have it just to get you the hell out of the store so she could get on with things and hopefully she doesn't get punshed because of you. I know you have every right to your phone, but please have some empathy for the people working the front lines. They're good people who have to deal with people like you and get bitches at for tho be that they have no control over. They couldn't do anything about the computers and the manager might face serious consequences for letting you have the phone. People line you give iPhone owners a bad name.

Confirmed this today. I did not sign my contract paperwork (CC Pad) until I picked up both phones today.

Did you really need to revive this thread to say that?

And since no one knows the details of their deal with Apple, you don't know that's the case, especially since Apple only has one retailer in most countries it sells the iPhone.

I didn't go looking for this thread. I'm pretty sure it was on the front page of this category today. There must've been another post earlier.

You're right, there was another post before you. On Jul 30, 2008, 12:26 AM. Then yours. At least come up with a better excuse for why you dug up a year old thread to post nothing on.
