I was on the phone with AT&T today just going over my bill and other things I had questions about. He saw I had a preorder for the 4S and told me I should really go Android.

Think for yourself and do not listen to a phone salesperson:rolleyes:

Thing is..we weren't even talking about the iPhone. Out of nowhere he was like "Oh, I see you preordered the iPhone 4S. You should really get an Android phone.." and I couldn't tell if he was joking for a second but he wasn't.

This appears to be going on at every carrier due to the lower profit on Apple products.

Too bad Apple never purchased carriers and ran them.

LOL - yeah, think different is turning into the sheep mentality!

There is a benefit to everyone having the same software. Unity between phones. However I do think android should exist I just wish they worked better together.

This is why I never buy from a brick and mortar store any more.

Occassionally I'll go into a VZW store or Best Buy to try a new device, but buying online is easier, cheaper, and devoid of the upselling obnoxious reps.

Regardless of margins, etc, an employee should not be trying to steer people away from what they want. That is horrible customer service.

This is AT&T we're talking about. I don't know why anyone would expect exceptional customer service from them.

att stores make way more off android phone sales.

uhhh really? you base this off what? or is this your opinion?

this assumption is nonsense....AT&T just started selling real Capable Androids in late 2009 early 2010...everyone knows iPhone is AT&T's breadwinner...

They might make more off total iPhone sales, but for each individual order they probably make more off an Android phone. It has been said that Apple requires the carrier to pay more for the iPhone than Android phone makers.

You do realize that this is like.....our job right? And that we aren't upselling because we just like to for the hell of it? I don't come to your job and call you obnoxious...which I'm quite sure you are....

I don't think it has to do with Apple costing more. I remember reading something about AT&T reps making more commission from Android phones compared to iPhones. Good thing here in Canada we make the same amount regardless of what smartphone we sell. But about a year ago, it was actually the other way around, iPhones made us more money than any other phone, now they're all the same.

For authorized retailers that probably would be the case. I work in corporate and there isn't a difference in what I get paid versus iPhone and Android. There might be a phone that has an incentive on it at the time where you get point's for a contest or something.....But it's all the same.

So I could probably care less what my customer get's versus what I want them to get. As long as they are happy and aren't choosing a phone with known problems, I'm good.

Maybe it's because I don't work off commission but I always try and find the customer the best option for whatever they need in terms of affordability and practicality. If the person is unsure of what they want, I wouldn't hesitate to give my suggestion but if they know what they, I wouldn't. Unless I thought what they want wouldn't work for them but honestly that doesn't apply to AT&T & phones..
