Verizon is full of crap. They don't have in there AT&T's EDGE network.

EDGE is a 3G technology. However, because actual speeds (not theoretical) don't reach over 200 Kb/s people call it 2.75G. However, it has been accepted as a 3G technology. You don't believe me? See Internationals Mobile Union say on the matter. They say it's a 3G.. I mean, all AT&T has to do is switch whatever is covered in EDGE colors to Blue 3G colors and pretty much they can counter Verizon. After all, Vericrap's EV-DO Rev.0 network is much much slower than EDGE.

EV-DO rev 0 has a peak theoretical speed of 2.4 mbps and averages 400-700 kbps.

EDGE has a peak theoretical speed of 384 kbps and averages 150 kbps.

And if you want to continue to play the ITU game, CDMA 1x is also considered to be 3G, so Verizon's map will be be a lot larger than AT&T's.

I don't trust coverage maps that much (but that doesn't mean I don't use them at all). My network here underestimate its own 3G coverage and I get 3G in places that they didn't "cover" on the map!

I agree. I'm currently in the middle of a "3G covered area" and usually even have 5 bars most of the time. However, I still get about 1 dropped call every other day regardless. It all depends on where you live - not the map (it should only be used as a rough "guide"). In contrast to now, I used to live in a different 3G covered are and never had a dropped call before I moved. Anyways, I don't think this is AT&Ts network - it's the iPhone. Other AT&T phones don't have this may dropped calls.

I live in the middle of Northern Virginia (a huge 3G area) and when I took my phone in to get it looked at I was averaging between 25%-44% dropped call rate. The Genius told me that this was 'not unusual', but replaced the phone for cosmetic micro-fractures, which is funny because I'd have assumed that of the two, my dropping a full third of my calls would have been more of a cause for alarm.

I can't remember ever having had a dropped call on Verizon. I think they can bash AT&T all they like.

Really? Because if you haven't noticed (which you probably haven't) iPhones on Rogers, Orange, etc. Work fine...besides allot of those regular dumb phones use EDGE to make calls anyways...
