AT&T must really be scared. First, they start giving some of their current customers the option of unlimited data. Now they are offering unlimited mobile to mobile. Which I must say is very impressive. I came from the lowest Sprint plan with mobile to mobile and never came close to going over minutes.

All this iPhone competition is going to give us, the consumers, a lot of better and cheaper options. Hopefully Verizon will follow suite.

The iPhone 4 on Verizon really does change everything, again.

Mobile to Mobile on any carrier or just AT&T users?

I thought all providers allowed unlimited calls to same carrier users.

Sort of like the Sprint deal. Unlimited to ANY mobile phone. However you have to be on the Unlimited Text plan as well to get the deal. Believe that plan runs $20 for Single and $30 for Family.

Really though the details haven't been fully released yet I don't think...Supposed to go into effect today.

hmmm this was the one reason I wanted to get the Verizon iPhone becasue everyone I talk to has Verizon but now if the iPhone 5 is ATT only goodbye Verizon. :D

That was a big selling point for VZ for us as well. Not a bad move by AT&T. Still, a better move would be to up the data caps for all users.

the unlimited mobile to mobile is only for qualifying plans..e.g. if you are someone who has the 39.99 individual package, you don't qualify for it.

Sounds like the fruits of competition, rather then AT&T "running scared"

The news story is here if you are interested

Competition is good for everyone
I don't think this is "running scared"
Both networks have their advantages and disadvantages
And both are large enough that they will "survive" the competition

Sprint and T-Mobile are the ones on the outside looking in now

Any carrier if you have unlimited texting (which seems weird) and a "qualifying" voice plan, which seems to be all of them.

The texting requirement is weird. Only thing that came to mind is that texting may be one of those add-ons that never qualifies for any type of discount. Sure someone with a FAN or other discount and text can chime and provide details...

Well I guess I will have to wait and see what becomes official and go from there. I have a limit to what I want to spend a month and will not exceed that.

Nah, it makes perfect sense from a business standpoint. Texting is probably the most profitable feature for them because it requires very little resources. AND, they know more and more people are dropping texting plans and using free services like Google Voice! That's what I'm doing right now.... I have texting blocked on my AT&T iPhone and just use Google Voice. I am tempted to add the $20 plan to get the new mobile to mobile feature... but then, I don't get close to going over minutes now, so what's the point?

It's already official and you can add the plan right now. I just checked my attwireless account and the new plan is right there under the standard Unlimited Texting feature.

Here's what it says when I click on the description:

"Unlimited Calling and Messaging to or from any Mobile in the U.S., Puerto Rico, or U.S.V.I. Messaging Unlimited includes domestic Text, Picture, Video and Instant Messaging."

So to clarify:

- Unlimited mobile to mobile calling AND texting TO and FROM any mobile number
- Qualifying plan DOES include the $40/mo individual plan

To all those wondering about the unlimited calling to mobiles...

I just switched my plan, it's an option in the account management online, starting today.

Because of this, I was able to drop my family plan minutes down, and save 30.00 a month.

It's live now, go get it.

like I posted in the other thread ...

I love the Iphone on verizon!!
Forces AT&T to up their game.

2 Iphone lines 700 min/month
unlimited data
unlimited txt
unlimitied mob-2-mob
unlimited nights/weekends

all for $154/month.
(includes 10% FAN discount)

I save $432/year from my current plan.

I did lose about 11000 roll over minutes. But whatever, I don't use them and I'd rather pay a smaller bill each month.

Definitely good for a certain segment of the AT&T customer base. I'm half tempted but we've got something like 1,200 roll over minutes since June. Clearly we're not hurting for lack of voice minutes.
