I recently switched from Verizon to AT&T to get an iPhone. I signed up for 1500 text messages a month. The only thing that confuses me right now is that when I look at my account online, it tells me that I have used up 11 of 101 messages. I have texted 11 times so far, so that would be correct. But why is it saying out of 101? Shouldn't it be 1,500? Just a little confused...Thanks

Go to your phone number and click on Manage your Features or something like that when logged in online. You should be able to see what texting plan you have.

It's a prorating issue. Your first month is shorter than the alloted days for 1500 texts. 101/1500 =6.733% of a month or about two days before the next cycle kicks in.

He's correct. Any features you add onto your account is prorated, so be careful not to get overcharges. It already happened to me 😱

I have a question:

Under features, I have the iPhone Data+200 texts for $20 a month (I activated my Original iPhone), but if I want 1500 texts, it's saying +$15.

I thought that you get the 1500 texts for $30 including data?

Because that's your prorated allowance for the month. Next month it'll be 1500 texts.

No, that has never been the case.

The only plan that combines data/text is the "data + 200 texts" one offered with the original iPhone (and no longer available unless you already have it and have never changed it). Otherwise it is $30 for data, and a separate, additional, charge for ANY of the texting options.

Wait, so even the first gen owners have to pay the $30 data?

That's stupid.

No, for the original iPhone the data plan is $20.

There is an additional $10 charge for 3G-capable devices.

Texting is still separate if you did not sign up for (and keep) the "data + 200 texts" promotion when it was available though. And if you switched off of that plan at any point you cannot, as I understand it, get it back.

this used to be the case....sometime within the past year ATT changed their texting policy. It used to be $10 for 1500 texts, but they raised it to $15 for 1500 texts. It's annoying, but a smart move on ATT's part based on business....if people are already paying $15 for 1500 texts, they're more inclined to say, "well for only $5 more i could have unlimited texts...people weren't as inclined to do so when it was a whole $10 extra for unlimited.

Again, sucks for the consumer, but I bet ATT has A LOT more people upgrading to unlimited texts for this reason only

the way it was explained to me is that the only difference between the bundle plan with 200 text messages and data for the original 2g and this new 3g plan is the $10 additional for 3g data.

The 200 messages are simply not included in the bundle, but it still makes it onto the plan as an additional feature for $5.00.

It seems like it isn't included and you're paying more for it, but really all they did was remove it from the bundle so that if you like, you can now cancel the text message portion and keep the data as a feature; whereas before you could not do that since it was bundled with the data plan.
