Try to, but it just adds up so quickly. Mostly from spotify. Have wifi pretty much everywhere, and I'm always on it, but I still always hit 5GB.

Put it in airplane mode to guarantee you are using the WiFi ?

It's a matter of principle, AT&T specifically states it's a Unlimited plan, they should live up to their claim. Otherwise it is false advertising and a class action lawsuit is in order!

It is unlimited. You can download all the data you want at the slow throttled speed.

5gb? Good lord! What are you doing on your phone? I never get above 1.5gb of data / month. I don't see how you are getting 5gb used... That's a lot. You'd have to be on the phone 18hrs a day with no wifi.. Oh well, I'm just curious about the useage.

I've never been throttled before, can't share my experience with you..

This is not hard to do at all.. Podcasts, spotify, youtube etc.. It adds up quick.

Slingplayer uses about 850 mbs an hour.

What do you mean "through AOL"? How in the world can you buy an unlimited Verizon plan now???

you look for somebody selling one then they call Verizon and give them your info then you call and assume the liability of the line and then you are cooking with gas:D

Your solution to not being throttled is simple. Stop going over 5GB. That's an obnoxious amount of data in 2013. Turn on your WiFi and use it. Stop watching Netflix over the cellular radio. Whatever you're doing, figure it out and stop. It's not hard.

NO!!!! Why should I? I pay for an unlimited plan, not to use wifi all the time. Only people to spread this nonsense are the ones that want all the bandwidth for themselves. 5GB is squat in 2013. The throttle should be at 10GB.

You're trying to blame the guy for wanting to use the data that he's paying for? It's 2013 and networks are LTE so that means people are using more data than ever. Not sure what point you were trying to make by mentioning that. No point in buying these powerful mobile devices if you can't even use them. Glad I have unlimited data and don't have to worry about these problems.

Thank you!!! LTE does use more, way more. I use about twice as much now, versus HSPA+. I guess an option for me is to turn LTE off. That will help.

Wifi everywhere, always on it, still going over 5GB. This doesn't really add up. When you aren't on wifi, you need to stop watching movies, listening to spotify, etc.

Good advice. Or have a little discipline and sync items onto the phone instead of streaming everything. No free lunches.

No thanks mom!

Still unthrottled. The trick works. I'm going to try and track down the original poster and send him a donation if this continues working :)

Love streaming Netflix from my office. We don't have wifi for personal use. Yep, I get to play games and watch movies while I work (provided it's not on the partners internet ;-P). I also stream NFL games on Sunday while driving. So much fun!!!

20GB would be easy unthrottled. It's always the people NOT on unlimited plans saying 5GB should be "enough". You'd think with as much as they want to be moms they'd try not to be so jealous, but here we are...

Sure, as I'm sure his data usage really is going to impact you!

That doesn't make sense. OP is concerned with too much data usage. Why not put it on the phone? Why stream it all? One movie might be a gig. One album is 600 MB. Both are large chunks of 5 GB. He bought a certain amount of data but he wants to use more. I'm OK with that but AT&T isn't and that's the problem.

Instead of a random comment how about helping with a solution?

I'm well-aware of the magic of Verizon's Unlimited 4G LTE... the absolute holy grail of unlimited plans. I have a good friend who uses, easily, 20TB a month on that plan. It's absolutely worth its weight in gold. An unimaginable deal for those that can get it. The $500-$600 people are selling their unlimited Verizon plans for however, it's a steep steep entrance fee!

You'd probably get a better price asking to buy it locally via craigslist. This time of year somebody will use $200-300 dollars for Christmas gifts and give up their magical unlimited line. Good luck!!

Um. YES IT DOES. I'm just as shocked as anyone, but I have been unthrottled since last evening and I had been strapped to .5Mbs since 2 weeks ago for being over 5GB (and my reset date isn't until the 6th). I've been averaging over 10Mbs since last night (about my average unthrottled 5GB speed).

And can you CONFIRM that Enterprise isn't throttled? I know it "makes sense" that it wouldn't be, but no one has confirmed it at this point. The added benefits are just access to "business intranets" and such, no where does it indicate it's not throttled...

Regardless, until the trick stops working (which may be any second, I dunno), I have my throttling issue solved. I'm shocked and amazed, but it is still working fine...

This worked for me! iPhone 5S 7.0.3 !!!!!!! Thanks for the tip!

Check this post. It works!!

I can confirm, this trick works. I was using this trick on ios 6 (iphone 5) for months to work-around att's throttling. I never publicly posted this trick (worried someone from att would see it and patch the 'mistake' in their system), but I'm glad someone else found this trick to be working too. I average around 30-40 GB /month.....thanx to MOVIE BOX, XBMC, and tethering on my iphone 5.

You're still getting unlimited so what's the issue? Don't like being throttled, don't go over 5GB. You are causing your own heartache.

Ok, then why contribute nothing to the thread?
He contributed as much as any other poster. Just because you don't like what he said doesn't mean it's not a contribution. I rather enjoyed his post.

I love when people show how ignorant they are by making these types of statements. His unlimited data is still intact. ATT has not broken their agreement.

Guess you're simply not paying attention as OP has unlimited data but is being throttled.

I would love it if this trick worked on Straight Talk AT&T. So far it seems this trick must only work on grandfathered unlimited AT&T accounts which are throttled. Is that correct? Tried a zillion times on Straight Talk AT&T and it remains throttled. Not too upset since I've already used 12GB of data this month before the throttle kicked in, but it would still be great to utilize this trick if it did work. Anyone have luck with this trick on Straight Talk AT&T?

I have AT&T's unlimited data plan and have been throttled too, so I know what you mean by how frustrating it is. I've even had to call them to reset my data speed at the beginning of my billing cycle when it didn't happen automatically. I haven't tried the "trick" since I haven't been throttled lately, but I'll try to remember it for when I do.

Anyways, one suggestion I have is to make sure you have the Music Quality in Spotify set at Normal and not Extreme. This will cut the amount of data Spotify uses by 2/3rds. I sync at the higher bit rate, but stream at the lower to conserve data usage.

I hope this helps. My biggest grip with AT&T right now is that they don't permit tethering on the unlimited plan. If they throttle us, you would think they would let us use the data, they do give us, as we please. At least they now permit FaceTime, so maybe there is hope.

Slingplayer uses about 850 mbs an hour.

SlingPlayer is EXACTLY my problem.

I've been AT&T grandfathered unlimited data since inception of the iPhone 2G and it's only now when I started using SlingPlayer that I received the "nearing 5GB" usage notice. This is so lame...

I will pay the extra $15 if the enterprise plan is truly un-throttled.

I have a line through my company who still have the option to purchase unlimited dats plans, every phone comes with it. We probably have a few thousand wireless lines with them across the U.S. I get the notice when I reach 5gb that it might be throttled but have never noticed a major slow down.

Holy necro thread...
