I hadn't been throttled in about a year, even after using 7-8GBs per month. I upgraded to my new shiny iPhone 6 Plus 64GB (unlimited data) and the FIRST text message I get, probably 5 minutes after activation, was from AT&T that I was approaching 5 GB.

Seems strange.

Been throttled consistently the last 4 months or so. Due to some boredom, I'm using a bit more data lately. I can hit 5 gigs in 10-15 days and then stuck with incredibly slow service for a majority of the time. Say goodbye to streaming videos, or say hello to a blurry mess, forget GIFs, give up on some heavy sites, etc. I hate having to be so conscious about my use of data on a so called unlimited plan.

Also, I've never been given a warning or text.

Located in California, Central Valley. When I'm not throttled, speed tests show around 26mbs download and around 9 upload, give or take. Never tested speed while throttled, but it can't be good.

It's getting old, when throttled, sure you still get data, but they over do it to the point it breaks certain online experiences. Tempted to jump to the 30gig plan and have someone like my dad join it to help with the increased cost. Also, hotspot would be nice.

Update:

I hit my 5gb limit yesterday with 5 days left in billing cycle. In the past my speed test showed up to 26mbps download. When I hit the limit, the test was currently 10mbps download at the time, probably not throttled yet. This morning, the test was throttled. Test one: 0.56mbps download. Test two: 0.36mbps download.

Just terrible :(

Why can't they throttle it to something reasonable, like 5mbs.

The unlimited limit is just not enough for today's mobile experience combine with the habits unlimited users have developed. Seems like most media is higher quality and less restricted over cell data now, from HD streaming, higher quality images , plus increased use of GIFs, all taking advantage of the new speeds on mobile devices. So suddenly you are using more data in the past even though you didn't change your habits.

The 30gb plan may be the best way to go these days and future proof.

Before I paid my ETF with ATT, In recent months I would get throttled after 3GBs, but normally after 5. And that would be 4-5 days into my billing cycle. Rendering the remainder of the months useless. I never once received the top 5% about usage from them.

I'm fairly sure the answer is no...

But has anyone on at&t been throttled and you have a high data allowance plan (NOT unlimited) say 20GB and been throttled if there is high congestion?

currently I have both at&t and Verizon plans and use lots of data on both. I'm considering consolidating to at&t since the high data plans are still on promo.

But I want to make sure at&t is not throttling these plans for very high data users at certain times....

Thanks.

If there was an easy way around getting throttled, there would not be 4,895,783 posts about people bitching about it.

Plan on it. It will happen.
