Yeah unlocked ones are going for $800 shipped. That's 2 brand new 8GB iPhones..

BUT YOU CANT GET THE IPHONE UNLOCKED....

iPhone - $399 8gb + $59.99 per month for 2 years = ($59.99 + $1.25 x 24 = $1469.76 + $399 = $1868.76

WOW good deal ;) I could get 2 of the TyTN II and have change to get the plans i wanted :p

Don't forget: It takes a good 3 seconds to switch from program to program. I had the Sprint version of the tytn which I got rid of because of the sluggishness.

I've got the HTC P4350, one of the lower end Windows Mobile phones, and mine doesn't dot hat.

Don't forget: it's ugly as hell too. I'll take the iPhone any day over that thing. Most of the extras this has over the iPhone are things I don't care about anyway...

Didn't I say that this thread is not a Windows Mobile vs. iPhone thread??? It is specifically for the Tilt.

By the way, I've used the iPhone and it might look "sleek" for 2 hours, but then the novely wears off and you're stuck with EDGE and a closed system with not much 3rd party support (it's not going to get better in the future).

Can your iPhone stream radio? Record radio? Watch live TV? (Not youtube)? 3G? Tether to a laptop via Bluetooth? 3MP camera? GPS?

Thought so.

Keep away from this thread Apple fan boys.

As far as the Tilt price, I paid $299+Tax. Cheaper than an 8GB iPhone. It retails for $549 from AT&T, or ~$700 off eBay for an "unlocked" version. You can easily unlock the AT&T phone for $20, wait a while.

Even on my 8525 (original TyTn) it wouldn't take 3 seconds to switch from program to program. On the Tilt, it has 256MB of system RAM, switching apps is much much faster. The processor is better as well.

Right, I can't buy the iPhone unlocked but I can unlock it myself in which I have. You didn't even factor in 2 year's worth of phone plan for the TyTN II. Use the same plan you added for the iPhone and I could get 8 new iPhones ;)

WOW now 2 TyTN IIs doesn't look like such a good deal anymore. Clearly 8 is better than 2 ;)

Err, my contract was not extended. I am a AT&T Premier member and I get a bunch of benefits. Also I have 4 lines on my account.

With the iPhone, if you change your sim and unlock it or whatever, you're in danger if you ever update the future firmwares from Apple. They don't like unlockers and people messing with the iPhone.

Did I mention how much of a closed system the iPhone is? The only good thing I saw with it was Safari and that's about it.

Oh my post wasn't directed towards you, didn't mean any confusion :)

I had an iPaq a while back, and it was a disaster trying to sync Windows Mobile with anything - MissingSync was a crash-prone mess, and PocketMac was completely underdeveloped. Have these programs changed enough that y'all feel like you can reliably sync data with iCal, Address Book, iTunes, Stickies, etc.?

No worries :)

iPaq is old school....I don't sync much and even if I do, I use a Windows machine to do it. I have not tried any Mac apps to sync yet.

If I want any MP3's, I just remove the microSD card and use my SD adapter to copy over files to it. I could even use the phone, since it's USB2.0

HEllo Moron?! If you get an unlocked phone you can get ANY contract, who says it has to be 2 years? who says you even need a contract, heard of pay as you go.. ????? DUMB ASS

SDAVE, very curious to see how much better the Tilt is than the TyTn. Living in Vancouver, there's no 3G and when I did use the 3G on my TyTn it drained the battery a lot faster like all 3G phones.

Mind posting where you bought it and how much? I wanted the TyTn as a replacement for my Treo 650 but found it too sluggish and unresponsive (was using original OS, not hacked version).

Since the iPhone isn't available in Canada yet I'd consider the Tilt if it works much better than the TyTn.

Thanks.

I think the Tilt is unique, I feel there are people who will use it to the max. Am I that person? No. For my own taste it's a little thick, and I'm not comparing it to anything else but its too much for my own needs. Think it's a cool product though. Just a little large. Like a bar of soap. But bigger. And it's running Windows Mobile, so thats always a plus. .

Haha, I'm going to take the moral high ground and refrain from calling you names ;).

You're contradicting yourself. I was talking about unlocked phones from the beginning. Who says the unlocked iPhone needs ANY contract either? You're the one who went on about the 2 year contract. Set aside the contract, an unlocked iPhone still comes out cheaper than an unlocked TyTN II which is what I had stated initially. You're the one who started the argument so don't go pointing your fingers at me. I'll stop here so I don't make you look bad ;)

You can unlock the Tilt/TyTN/Other WinMo Phones and not have to worry about bricking it any time you update the software

I don't consider the iPhone unlockable until it can be unlocked regardless of what software version you're using and won't relock or brick with an update.

MissingSync has been working well for me for the last year or so (versions 3 and 4), although when I recently upgraded my two-year-old phone for an HTC Artemis, I wound up having to completely uninstall MissingSync, trash the sync data files and re-install before it would play nice again. Since then, however, it's been 100%

Don't get me wrong, I would get a TyTN II. It's just the asking prices for unlocked ones are insane which is my main argument. I wasn't comparing functionality/stability at all.

used the TyTn

I had the TyTn for a while, but even with MissingSync I had lots of trouble syncing it to my Mac. So, for me, my iPhone is a breeze and fun. However, if I had Windows, then the TyTn would've been very, very cool. Granted, it did crash almost daily, and it required restarting fairly often, and you couldn't close programs without about 10 clicks, and it really didn't like switching easily between wi-fi and cell internet, and the battery lost charge in 5 months, but it held a lot of promise that seemed cool at the time.

This new Tilt looks nifty to me, though, too.

Hey there,
I've been using it for more than 2 days now and I love it. The ONLY thing that I dislike is the speakerphone, the tytn was much louder. The phone feels much more "complete" as in it is a bit heavier than the 8525, but it feels rugged with the ruber back.

I got it for $275+Tax USD from AT&T Premier. Since you're in Canada, you might want to look at eBay. I am waiting for my microSD card to arrive so I can put TomTom in and have street by street navigation.

I was able to sell my 8525 for a good price so I came out even with the Tilt :)

The 3MP camera is pretty sweet. It has auto focus too. There are more in depth reviews a howardforums, check it out.

Guys,
Thinking about this phone... Has anyone been able to Sync with Mac with no problems?

I've heard The Missing Sync works well.

I don't sync my Windows Mobile phone to my Mac though. I have it set up to sync automatically over the air to my school's Exchange server. It's awesome. Any changes I make to mail, contacts, calendar or tasks on the phone gets automatically synced the server and changes I do in Outlook (either desktop client or Web Access) get automatically synced to the phone. I don't have to do anything. Every other phone I had that required a manual sync I never bothered syncing because I'm lazy. If Entourage 08 is any good, I'm going to start using that with the Exchange server so all the crap gets stored on my computer too. But the iPhone, BlackBerry, Treo, etc, have NOTHING on Windows Mobile when it comes to syncing abilities.
