Shame on those of you who are supporting AT&T.

same on me? ya shame on me for having 5 bars on att and 1-0 on version? shame on me for paying $55 a month and getting around 15- 25 gigs of data a month but on versions horrible network that has 1 bar of nothing 1000$+ dollars a month. no shame on you.

And if they succeeded (which i doubt), then AT&T will respond by doing a bit of choking themselves by limiting the bandwidth of iphone users heavily to prevent this happening again. *claps* Way to bite the hand that feeds.

So you really weren't being sarcastic?

You accidentally created some great satire there.

You really didn't plan that?

I get 5 bars too....doesn't stop the calls from dropping. Your logic is retarded.

Intentionally blocking up the ATT network could hurt real people who need their phone for something important.

It's a bad protest idea that could hurt people.

Whatever the beef with the phone company - it's not good to block essential services like phones. I might need to make an important call.

Cell phones aren't the only way to make calls....there are pay phones, land lines, services such as Skype, etc.

I also think it shows how nervous AT&T is that they're even making a public statement, with just the threat of an event like this occurring.

Also, wonder if Apple is making note of this? Leave some feedback on Apple.com telling to take the iPhone to Verizon: Operation Chokehold lol.

Too bad that no one's pointed out yet that FSJ (and the Facebook page) are advocating that we overwhelm the data network, not the voice network. These aren't quite the same thing. No one participating in the campaign (should) intend to deny people their cell service in an emergency.

At&t is not the problem. The iPhone was not properly designed. No one else complains about At&t coverage except iPhone users. The Blackberry, etc. is amazingly fast on At&t's networks.

I guess no one here reads the New York Times link

I think ATT sucks, but there is no way I am joining in on this. Think of all of the people who need to call 911 and have emergency services. I'll be damned if a collective action that I'm involved with causes someone to die. What a stupid thing to do simply because you are tired of poor cell service.

If someone is depending on AT&T for EMERGENCY calls... there is something wrong with them. I can't even reliably get out non-emergency calls on their poor excuse of a network!

You know, back in the day there were these phones. They had wires and plugged into the wall. They are all but dead now, but I am sure there are still a few around, even in NYC... I agree with sandiegobrian: if you actually rely on a cell phone 100% for emergencies, then don't be surprised when they don't work.

I have no illusions that this will have the desired effect, though. That is, it could easily bring the network grinding to a halt, but AT&T will surely respond in kind: institute data caps, try to fine "over-users" and maybe even go after folks who partook if the inevitable network crash occurs.

It is obscene that AT&T does not even have decent coverage in cities. I understand that the USA is a HUGE place to cover well compared to Europe, Asia, etc, but the fact that they can't even get MAJOR urban centers right with the ludicrous amount they charge for "service" is disgraceful. Sadly, there really aren't any other options if you are horny for the iPhone. One way or another, all networks where I live are spotty. You just choose one that is slightly less spotty at the time...

I can't believe some people are actually believing and supporting AT&T's argument! After all, they have been advertising that you can both "talk and surf the web at the same time", which must mean that that both voice and data are mutually exclusive entities.

Come on America! Stand up for your rights. People shouldn't be afraid of large corporations and their threats. Rather, corporations need to be afraid of their customers.

How about everyone goes to the fakesteve blog and then keeps reloading the page so we can see which crashed first, the ATT network of the fakesteve website?

To me, it sounds like a plain old denial of service attack as the goal is the same - to take the ATT data network out. Not sure about the US, but a DoS attack can get you 10 years in prison in the UK.

Shame on those of you who are supporting AT&T. They continue to get rich off of the iPhone at our expense. They have not invested in their infrastructure enough to support the iPhone, yet they blame it for all of their problems. The iPhone has been out for over 2 years now....how about investing some of that money back into the freaking network (like Verizon has done with their 4G network - oh and AT&T won't have 4G until 2011 at the earliest while Verizon is rolling it out next year).

I get a lot of bars on my phone, but the calls drop constantly! They have been slow with MMS support, missing their own deadline. They STILL do not allow tethering, and God know when they will actually allow that with their current network woes.

I'm not really one to join a "take down a company" campaign, but this is one that I actually feel is justified. They want to boast in their retaliation commercials against Verizon that they have "more apps" and can browse the web while talking on the phone...these are iPhone generated advantages. The consumers should be thanking Apple, not AT&T.

May the day of a Verizon iPhone come as soon as possible.

Really? I'm pretty sure that you didn't HAVE to buy an iPhone. Where's the personal responsibility? If you think AT&T's network sucks so bad, cancel your contract and go to Tmobile or Verizon. You could easily sell your iPhone, which would cover the cost of your ETF. So, well you may have a right to complain about service, you don't have the right to act like you're a cornered animal. It's like picketing in front of Walmart because they "force" you to shop there. You don't burn down a store, even if you feel justified.

AT&T has every right to have a crappy network. Just as you have every right to use any carrier. If you want to prove something, take your business elsewhere.

What's being proposed is terrorism.

yes kill att's network that they are trying to fix so they wast more money re fixing instead of growing then also get data caps thats really smart

There are so many things wrong with that statement.

When did AT&T threaten you?
