I think this one has merit because AT&T should not have the right to withhold an unlock code from someone who has finished their contract or someone who bought a device that is out of contract. AT&T and Apple have already made their money by then. The phone is that person's, free and clear. Issue the unlock code just like you do for every other phone on the market.

EXACTLY!!!
I purchased a phone at full price and theyre still trying to tie me to AT&T! completely unfair :(

file a lawsuit

Make sure and do it in your own blood so they know how serious you are.

Also, that way we can file a lawsuit against them for making you so serious that you felt you needed to file the lawsuit in your own blood.

Also, way to embrace the American spirit.. SUE!!!!

lol

Don't file, walk away

Calling Apple is a waste of time. I got my phone unlocked in India but had to jump through a lot of hoops to get there even though I also paid full price.

My conclusion: next time I need a new phone, I'll just get myself one of the HTC's and use any damn SIM I like. Seriously, I can understand the restrictions if you get the phone at a lower price with a plan attached to that but not at all if you pay it in full. I'm very happy with the iPhone itself but Apple's agreements with the operators aren't going to put my b*lls in a vice a second time, it's just not worth it.

seems like the dev team should be spending some time on how to fake those communications for an unlock - would be nice.

The unlock requires a unique cryptographic token tied to the phone's NOR and SGold processor chip IDs. Because it is transmitted using asymmetric key encryption, it is not possible to spoof the communicaton without knowing Apple's private key.
