I'm in Oxford MS and currently we have tons of extra people here due to the Ole Miss vs Alabama football game. So it is really hard to get a proper speed test with the cell towers being overloaded. I just ran a speed test and got really surprising results considering how crowded it is right now.

How do you know your on hspa+ vs regular 3G because my understanding was AT&T never completed the rollout.

You can check ATT's coverage map. They indicate where their hsdpa+ area is.

That's huge speed variation!

My friend in Seattle does endless complaining about his AT&T service -- dropouts and unreliable. Have you found it better with the 4s?

I haven't made any phone calls with the 4S yet so I can't really comment on whether calls get dropped. In general I've found AT&T to be an okay service provider.

IT's looking more and more I need to switch to Verizon. AT&T has in theory these great speeds, but it's so unreliable connection that the data always times out for me and calls often never arrive to my phone

Still getting <1mbps DL here in Baltimore. iPhone 4 32gb refurb. None too happy

Thank you! Why is AT&T so slow in the mid-atlantic? I am in DC, and my fastest download I have seen is 2.5Mbps -- typically 1.5mps, though lows 0.5

Verizon sucks

I got 5.2mbps on AT&T. On my Verizon iPhone I got 0.32mbps in the same area (Seattle.) I DON'T CARE IF DON'T GET 14mbps, it is always going to be much faster than Verizon. I love canceling my Verizon contract!

You pay $30 for crappy data that doesn't penetrate walls well, and $25 on AT&T for faster data. All for 2GB/Data. :D

I'm loving the data speeds on my 4S. I'm getting 2x-3x the speeds I was with my iPhone 4 in the same places and am getting 6-8 Mbps pretty consistently. The best my old phone usually got was 3 Mbps.

My AT&T speeds have been noticeably better, but my wifi is much faster than the 4.

All I know was just last night, in a bar, Verizon friends had 3g able to text and pull up web pages. My great AT&T service couldn't get signal until I switched it manually to Edge.

My brother got a 4S. It is pretty fast compared to my 4. Might have to upgrade after all. AT&T in North Charlotte is getting 5.1Mbps down and 1.0Mbps up. I've consistently gotten 4.4Mbps around my house.

I exported my Speedtest history to an Excel file and deleted the wifi results. There's a significant improvement in 3G speed over my iP4 (which is everything dated before 10/14/11, obviously).

At home I have a microcell.

Go about 2 mbps down, .2 up.

That up sure sucks...anyone have any thoughts on that.

Have Airport Extreme 5th gen.

Looks like all the North Texas people are repping the AT&T speeds well.

I've always loved AT&T speed/service in the Dallas area. I averaged 3-4 Mbps on my iPhone 4 and now I'm averaging 5-6 on my 4S.

I've run about 10 tests so far on my 4S in Dallas and have yet to get anything under 5.5 Mbps.

It's funny all the general AT&T hate around the country but it's fantastic down here (I guess it behooves AT&T to have good service in their home city, lol). I obliterate all my friend's speeds on Verizon.

And wow, Seattle!

My 4s is doing much better than my 3gs. In my room, my 3gs would average about .5-1mb down, and .05 up, the 4s gets about 5.5 down and 2-3 up.

Texas has fantastic AT&T coverage, because that's AT&Ts headquarters.

I'm in Philly and average 2.5-3 down.

New York /New Jersey area are getting very crappy 3G speeds. Yesterday I was getting 6 Mbp d/l, now it's like one or two for some reason today, with a awful upload.
