Finally

I just returned back home from visiting the Apple Store 10 minutes away from me. After explaining all of my problems activating my phone they gave me a new Iphone 6 plus from inventory and it is now working!!! They had to return the other iPhone and repurchase the new one verifying with ATT - but now I have a working phone.

I wish I had done this on Friday when I couldn't activate my phone instead of wasting 2 days with Apple on the phone. I believe there is a problem with some of the phones! :)

Without question, this is absolutely what you have to do. There is no alternative. Those able to finagle some other fix do not have the exact problem this thread addresses. The phone must be swapped. If they have it, they will swap like for like. I can't imagine what those who are too far from Apple Stores will have to do, but I expect you will have to send your phones back for replacements or be in for a long, frustrating wait.

I got the exact same model/color/capacity.

Yes, I realize you'll receive the same model in exchange. My question was what model is it? Are people just having trouble with just the iP6, just the 6Plus, just silver, etc....
Just trying to see if there's a pattern.

I have a 6 Plus myself, 64 gb, white, ATT.

The pattern i've noticed is that we all seem to have 'reservation' phones. If anyone did not buy their phone through the Apple store, or go through a reservation, let us know.

I figured you were asking as much, but chose to answer the way I did because I think that is not the best way to confirm if it is particular type of phone. Perhaps week build and location requests would be better?

Anyway, FWIW, it is a 6+/Silver/64GB

EDIT: And it had a reservation on the first day of preorder. This really seems suspect to me.

Just to add a little more info to this... I was getting the same exact error when ordering my phone too. It kept saying my zip code & ssn couldn't be verified with AT&T. After I almost gave up preordering the phone, I got a 'reservation'. Its funny how I get the same error now as well.

Hmmm. That could be. I wonder if their reservation system didn't transmit correct information to AT&T.

If memory serves, there was an issue back in the 4S timeframe I think where people were receiving phones that were keyed to other people's accounts and wouldn't activate because they were delivered to the wrong people. I wonder if something similar happened here...

Hopefully tomorrow there will be a definitive answer/solution.

My phone was ordered with a reservation on Saturday morning. Mine is a Gold ATT iPhone 6 plus 64 g and purchased with Att Next plan.

Same exact thing happened to me.

Anyways, I went to one of my local apple stores and they told me to come back tomorrow since I didn't have a reservation. I told them I had already spoken to senior advisors but they didn't care and insisted that they couldn't help me today.

iPhone 6, 128gb, space gray

I have Verizon but am having the same issue! As I'm waiting on hold (45+ mins) figured I'd google why I can't activate my iPhone 6. Came across this thread... I too pre-ordered my space grey 64GB. Judging by the posts above I won't be using my new phone tonight

Making a Genius Bar appointment may be best as compared to a walk in. The store I went to was a mess with normal customers, appointments, and people wanting to just touch different products.

One thing I was concerned about when I went was just getting a service phone at least. There was "none" of the walk in customer phones in stock I kept hearing, and they kept passing out service phones to other iPhone 6/6+ customers ahead of me.

Another thing, I bought Apple Care that day for my phone and they transferred it over to the new phone as well.

Called Apple last night again. I have now been on the phone with ATT/Apple for 6 hours in two days.

Apple said to give it until at least this evening for their engineers to look over the problem and hopefully render a fix. If there isn't a fix, I plan to call them and ask for a replacement phone. (I asked for a new phone last night, but they wanted me to wait until at least today to see if the engineers could fix it.)

FYI - If you wait to make a genius bar appt, chances are high you may be without your new phone for a while as they are going run out. Even the service stock..they are doling these phones out to whomever (presumably other DOAs, but potentially employee's friends), but I know there was only a couple phones left in total across 3 different Apple stores in my city. Just my $.02. You probably shouldn't wait and just go in today.

Hey everyone, I had the same problem since last Friday but I have Verizon not At&t, but it was the same situation, now straight to the point. I've done everything you guys have done with Apple's customer service as well as Verizon, the ONLY solution we found at the Apple Store was I had to return the device and put the balance in a Apple gift card and re-purchase a new device, they don't know what is doing it, but this seem to work, so I would suggest to make an appointment and go to the Apple Store. Hope this helps...

Same exact thing with me, so glad I came across people having the same issue. Was on the phone with apple twice and at the at&t store for four hours today without a solution.

I've had this issue since Friday morning as well. I have talked with several Senior advisors, and my ticket is still in Engineering at the highest priority possible (for whatever that's worth).

I also attempted to take the advice of others and take my two phones have issues into the apple store for a swap for a service one. They called apple engineers to ask if it would work and were basically told not to do it, so I left there disappointed as well.

So, as of tonight, I am still waiting to use my two brand new phones. Here's to hoping I hear back from engineering tomorrow, although I am not holding my breath anymore.

This is torture. I'm really hoping this is a software fix. I'm two hours away from the nearest Apple Store.

Same here man. For what its worth, someone just posted on the apple community forums saying a senior advisor called him and said they fixed his issue. He said he put all zeros in his zip code and SSN and that fixed his. Unfortunately, it did not fix mine. I had already tried this before, but its worth a shot for those who haven't tried.

I called Apple again today for another hour and 20 minutes (a total of almost 8 hours on the phone with these two companies since Friday) and STILL haven't got anywhere. They don't want to send me a service phone either and would rather me wait. We debated this for at least 15 minutes today. I just don't get it. Its like they WANT us to hold on to them. I would rather send in the bricked device so they can further test them in-house...not on OUR time.

Tried that, unsuccessful for me too. Thanks for sharing though!

Didn't work for me either.

How much you wanna bet if that does in fact fix the issue and is a workaround, they are doing it on an individual/case by case basis...one engineering ticket at a time....ugh

Yeah that would be a problem as I don't have a phone to answer when they call me back. I can't figure out how to re-activate my SIM card on my iPhone 5.

Did you try calling AT&T/Verizon (whoever your carrier is) for that? I was in your same boat for a day, but was able to have someone from Verizon help me reactivate the SIM on my iPhone 5 on Sunday.

Thats a good point. I 100% bet you're right!
