Just like everyone else I really am curious about what the rate plans are and if they are over $120 I might not get one on friday. But I was thinking, what is the normal plan when AT&T releases a new phone? Do they normally give out the pricing for the plans beforehand? Does anyone know when the treo or blackberrys are released if they pre-announce pricing plans?
I don't understand why people keep putting the voice plan and data plan together into one number. It's very misleading, because people's voice needs vary so much. Some people needs thousands of minutes, some people don't.
And your voice plan needs and the cost of that has NOTHING to do with the iPhone or whatever your choice in phones is. So when people say it costs $X to run a year, that's rubbish. Because everyone already pays for voice plans anyway.
The only new part is the data plan. Unless of course, you happen to already use a blackjack, blackberry, HTC, etc., in which case you already pay for data also.
So for those users there may not be any additional cost at all over their current phone.
So if you go to cingular.com now you can already price the voice plans. Those won't be different. Then to that you need to add the cost of the data plan, which will be somewhere between $20 and $45, depending on if they include SMS in that. All the other smartphones and PDAs have data plans in exactly that range.
So the only thing we're waiting to hear is where in that range AT&T decides to put the iPhone. The voice plans are already up there for you to choose from depending on your particular needs.
