Hmmm, I checked my upgrage eligibility with AT&T on apple.com, and as I expected, if I buy an iPhone 6 Plus on 9/12, I will have to pay full price, and I can purchase it on 9/21 for $200 less. However, there is an asterisk above the full price "Buy Today" column as well as over the "Buy Sept 21, 2014" column showing that a new 2 year contract is required.

"**Requires new two-year AT&T wireless service contract, sold separately to qualified customers; credit check required; must be 18 or older. In CA and RI, sales tax is collected on the unbundled price of iPhone."

If I'm reading this correctly, I'll have to renew my contract for 2 years if I pay full price on 9/12. I hope this is an error or that I'm misinterpreting.

The trouble is it's a much longer wait than it would seem if you want the 6 plus. With supplies limited if you aren't in the first batch it could be a month or more before there are more available. Also if you pay full price for the phone the benefit is that you don't extend your contract, thereby becoming free to unlock and switch to another provider.

lmao @ not being able to wait 9 days.

i've had a cracked screen for 16 months and will be out of town on launch day so won't get mine until the monday afterwords. life goes on.

Yes, I believe it is a strategic move by Apple to get more money from us.

This is just nonsense.

The carriers are all pushing the 0% interest loans on their phones. As such, exceptions they made before are no longer being made, generally speaking. Same thing happened when they dropped unlimited data (Apple didn't stand to gain a dime here). Exceptions that were once made were no longer.
