The fact that AT&T is the only provider who supports the iphone in america, no one has much of a choice. people are already dropping their old phone service that they might like better to switch to at&t, and at&t knows that and charges extra fees just because they can and know most people wont do anything about it. It's corporate America my friend. and its the consumer job to put up a fight to for money and not let it fly away so easily, and they have that right.

Fighting for you money is one thing, and like Koodauw trying to get out of the fee is fine. But lying to get out of it is just wrong.

Once again, if you don't agree with the fees, then don't get an iPhone. Yes, its a cool phone, but not the only one. There are plenty of other phones and carriers if you don't like the pricing of AT&T.

I thanked the AT&T rep at the store for not charging me the upgrade fees on my 4 line family plan on launch day. I was expecting to pay for the upgrade fees but he said that I didn't have to. Maybe it was because my original family plan contract expired two years ago and I have kept it month to month and didn't leave AT&T.

But last night, my online bill showed upgrade fees on 3 out of the 4 lines. A ten minute call to 611 this afternoon wiped out $54.00 in upgrade fees. Seeing that the first line already had a credit I guess made it easier for them to justify giving me a credit for the other 3 lines.

I don't know how the AT&T rep on the phone would have reacted if I called in asking for upgrade fee credits on 4 lines.

Wrong.

Corporations lie all the time to their employees, their customers, and each other. They file bankruptcy and walk away from their pension promises. They surreptitiously update TOS conditions with so much legalese that even a seasoned attorney can't understand it. They gouge customers, accidentally charge people when they shouldn't, and will lie to your face if you call customer service. Don't believe me? Go read the 1500 SMS message thread... Every other CS person is feeding some line of BS to a paying customer.

Lying to get something you want out of a corporation is fine.

So its wrong for corporations to lie, but perfectly ok for consumers to lie? That is screwed up. If you are going to bitch and moan about how evil corporations are, you shouldn't be doing the same things they are doing.

No, I'm saying it's a two way street. The corporations lie to us, giving us the right and reason to lie to them.

When I encounter an honorable business, I do business with them honorably. AT&T has already been proven by many here to be dishonest, so dishonesty in return is perfectly acceptable.

Is $18 really all that much to worry about? I could understand if it were $50, but $18, come on, suck it up.

Let's say the bill doesn't get paid:

Dear Mr. Customer,
We have noticed your bill has not been paid. If payment is not received within 15 days your service will be disconnected.

Dear Corporate Beast,
I mailed the payment in and somebody in your mail room must have stolen the check. Find out who it was and leave my service alone.

I wonder how that scenario would play out.

I can tell you exactly how it would play out. They would ask for a copy of the check, which I could get from my bank. If it hadn't been cashed, it would be my responsibility to put a stop on the check and send in another one. If I chose not to, I imagine they would cancel my service, send more letters, and ultimately send me to collections.

Does that answer your question?

It sure does.

So, what good would the dishonesty do you in that situation? Can you argue over and over that you mailed a check and never have to pay again?

Where does the dishonesty end and reality kick in?

I have a $26 activation free. hopefully i can get that waived, i rather save that money for another months phone bill.

Next time you think about asking for a raise think about where the funds will come from. Next time you wonder why the company you work for isn't hiring more people think about where the funds for that job would come from.

That's what I'm saying. People complain about paying an 18 dollar upgrade fee, then in their next breath they're complaining about how bad the 3G network is. Well what people seem to forget is that it takes money to develop, and maintain these networks... Not defending ATT, but sometimes people should really sit back and look at the bigger picture.

In that situation, the dishonesty would do absolutely nothing for me.

Telling them that I should get U200, TSM4 and my 36 dollar activation fee waived because HR said I could got me a free 200 minutes, an 8.99 1500 minute plan, and saved me 36 dollars.

So in my case, the dishonesty worked out quite well. ;)

My heart bleeds for AT&T. It is their job to improve the network out of their profits... last I heard, they weren't exactly hurting for cash.

I managed to get my 18.00 fee waived after the 3rd attempt, they told me they would waive it as a 1 time courtesy since i had threatened to cancel my service with AT&T.

I just called today and they took mine off. No questions asked just said I didn't want to pay it and had been a customer for years.

Oh! I get it now. Sorry.
Profits. They are supposed to improve the network using profit. Got it.
So these uh......fees......they aren't profit. Ok. I guess the truth is $9 goes to the CEO of AT&T and $9 goes to the CEO of Apple and they use those bills as toilet paper. It all makes sense now.

I hope you get down sized.

yeah, when they add a couple of fees to your bill for no reason i wanna see how much you defend their "profits". profits are one thing, unnecessary extra fees are another. by your logic they can add a $4 fee on your bill every time you call customer service and a $10 service fee for every time you go into a store and they help you with something related to your account, and everyone should just merrily pay that because its for the at&t's profit? i gotcha!

They charge me more for one meg of text messages (1310 USD per megabyte) than the cost of a fairly high end home theater receiver. I pay them 70 dollars a month for 450 minutes and unlimited data, so long as I don't use the data connection with my laptop.

Fees are not an acceptable way of generating a profit. I expect the bank I bank with to make a profit loaning money at a higher rate than they themselves borrow; I do not expect them to make a profit by gouging their customers non-sensical fees. AT&T can get a sucker like you to pay the fees, but I'm not going to do it if I can avoid it. I give them more than enough money to draw a profit.

Hoping I get downsized? You're a real class act. Next time, why don't you hope my mother gets cancer.

You are a social failure, and now everyone on this forum knows it. :p

Jerk.

If a bank does not offer you the rate you like or you don't agree with their fees you move on to the next bank. Same applies to phone companies....don't like AT&T and their prices move along to someone else.

My bank actually makes a lot of their money from fees. But based on my relationship with them, the fees don't apply to me. If I can make the fees not apply to me at AT&T, I'm fine with that.

Thank you for that. I Laughed good and hard. Can I use that in the future?
