My Xs Max contract is over, ordered a 12 Pro Max 256GB (2 years contract) which will be shipped to me in 2 weeks, but now I’m thinking maybe at this point just wait for the next model?

lack of 120hz display is disappointing in a premium flagship when all other flagship smartphones offer that and its almost guaranteed next iPhone comes with it.

Also rumors about touch ID implementation (which I really like) and smaller notch are very interesting.

I will get around 350 trade in value for my Xs Max as part of this deal tho, which will be much less if I decide to wait for next iPhone obviously.

On the other hand,if I go ahead with the deal,I have to live with 12 Pro Max until March 2023.😞

so what do you think?
Wow, that sucks having your contract in the middle of the iPhone cycle.
Unless your Xs Max is dying, I would just wait. It's really tempting, but it's better to wait and reset your contract start date to match with Apple's iPhone release cycle. That way, you won't have this dilemma in the future. ;)

C'mon, I think "suffer" is a little harsh, the 12 Pro Max is arguably the best smartphone on the planet and would be an improvement over the current XS Max.
His wording gives me the impression of “suffering”. Judging by two year lockdown without upgrade, why not going for a bit better one and enjoy using the device instead of using it but always feeling like….idk, sort of slightly irritating feeling? Enjoy the device and enjoy the life. Wouldn’t that be better?
iPhone 12 Pro Max is the best iPhone but better one is coming. So.

My thoughts are bit reverse. We know that per Apple the latest iPhone will always be the best one until the new one is coming.

On the other hand I would never buy a new iPhone on launch day as per my observation:

1. In the beginning things are not exactly smooth - not sure how it happens buts the new iPhone with the new iOS never play nice. Or at least not as nice as I want them to be
2. I would like first to see some reviews of 2-3 months usage before investing

Given my train of thought, I would always end up buying a device around 4-5 months after launch which is mid cycle. However I personally prefer to wait a bit and make sure that the devices are what I want/need and are good than to be afraid that the soon the next model would be coming and it would be better. It would be (per Apple) but it might not be for me (given my needs) and plus if I wait like that, I would never buy a new device as there would always be something better at some point.

I am more the type of girl to buy a device when I need it and get the best I can afford and meets my needs.

That's how I do it as well. I want to see real world usage and reviews after the new model has been out a bit. My payment plan hits the 50% mark is in January which gives me enough time to sort out which one's best for me if/when I decide to upgrade.

I have to admit, that is very logical, rational advice. I always for for phones when they’re new because I’m a gadget nerd, but you’re absolutely right that each time, there are some issues that have to get sorted.

Purchased most of my iPhones on launch day, haven’t had any problems so far. 🤷‍♂️

Don’t forget these iPhones are out in the wild in some hidden case getting tested 3-4 month in advance before they go on sale to the public, this isn’t Samsung we’re taking about here lol.

Don’t see the problem in buying on day 1, you also have the apple 14 days return policy for peace of mind. 😊

The testing must not be enough for me then. Just one simple example - if you buy a new iPhone, you would receive it with the newest version of iOS. iOS is not stable per my experience. I always wait at least two 2 or 3 months before updating my devices to the new version because sometimes they manage break the simplest things ever. Like 2019, mail was not working on my company iPhone that I use for mail. I basically had a toy if mail is not working. This year messages is not working on the company phone - gets deactivated every month or so and I have to reactive it. Those are basic functions that I expect to work but they do not for some reason in the initial releases of given iOS version.

So yeah I would not buy a launch phone until I have seen real life usage.

In terms of the 14 days policy return - it is possible but it is hassle now with COVID as I cannot go back to the mall but have to use post services and I prefer to avoid that.
