New AT&T Commercial "Answer"

I just saw this new Ad over at 9to5mac.com and I thought I would share.

I like 9to5mac.com's question, Is This Too Little, To Late?

Its obvious that this is in response to Verizon's Ad "Yes, I can hear you now." But to me it seems kind of lame, and yes, Verizon's Ad was so much better.
 
That is a pretty weak response. He could NOT wait for the phone call to end. There's absolutely no need to have voice and data at the same time. Verizon smartphone customers have been doing for how long now and we survive easily without it. What are the chances of this happening in real life? Extremely slim to none.

Sorry AT&T... Verizon's massive coverage (important for me since I travel a lot and AT&T 3G coverage is very spotty in my area) > voice + data. You should focus on the 3G speed over Verizon using data gathered by tech sites. That would be far better than trying to convince people that the need for voice + data outweighs 3G coverage.

I use data and voice at the same time frequently.... I talk with my headphones on and can surf the web and talk on the phone at the same time
 
As a long time Verizon user, I am used to not doing both at the same time on my smart phone. Having said that, I can see how it would occasionally be useful.
 
I'm perfectly fine being able to talk and surf on the web only when I'm near WiFi (which accounts for 99% of my day). This doesn't affect me.

WiFi is beautiful. WiFi is everywhere :)

It may not be necessary but it is very convenient and I'm another that does this often. at&t smartphone users are used to being able to do this.

I know that it can be useful. AT&T should make a commercial that far more people can relate to. How many people have been in this situation on Verizon and thought "Damn... which I had voice and data at the same time." AT&T needs to make a video with this same concept but in a much more relatable situation. This commercial is a good concept but bad execution. I mean, come on... forgetting your anniversary? It's not like some obscure day that is easily forgettable. This major problem with this video is that it really only targets married men who own iPhones.

Verizon does a good job creating commercials that a lot of people can easily relate to, especially with their 2 commercials out so far for the iPhone. First one related to every Verizon customer waiting for the iPhone while the 2nd reached out even to frustrated AT&T iPhone users and showed the massive coverage that AT&T can't compare to. If AT&T plans on trying to prevent people going to Verizon... go with 3G speed with data results from tech sites that are well known and with a good reputation.

So its nice to have voice and data at the same time, once a year, if you're stupid enough not to remember your own anniversary?

Seriously, I've had a verizon smart phone for about 6 years now.. Never once have I needed to browse the internet while talking.

so you don't...but many do, including me.

you've never had someone call you to look something up online? just the other day, my friend called me asking for directions as he was driving. i was able to use google maps and talk him through directions as his own personal onstar.

Hehe I just found it funny how the guy acted like it was going to be all over if he did not try to find a place and reserve it while on the phone. He went from quietly working in his office to haphazardly getting his work and rushing out of the office.

The realistic situation would be that you tell your wife that you will be out of the office really soon because it's been a very busy day, hang up, and then search for what you need while gathering up your things. No need to freak out. :p

Honestly, that has happened to me. My friend was lost and wanted directions to her volunteering event. It was 2006 and well... I was at home on the computer. Other than that... I've never had a friend or person in general call me for directions as they either have their own smartphone, got directions ahead of time, or simply call the destination for help, which makes more sense.

So? Many others can't. Just the other day I called up a friend to see if he had received a work related email. He had to hang up and check. I can do both, he can't. There is a difference. Now, as per the ad, well poorly executed on AT&T's part.

Although, the general idea is nice, the ad itself sucks.

That is more relatable and I think would have been better for the commercial but something doesn't make sense... he doesn't have to hang up to check email. If he received it, he would have already received a notification. I assume that you called him a while later to see if he received it and not immediately call him right after you sent it. Perhaps your friend didn't think that he could check his email while on the phone or didn't know how? hehe

But much agreed that the concept is good. AT&T needs to find a way to execute it well that would reach out to the masses instead of married men who forget their anniversaries and feel like it's necessary to try to make a reservation even though he would have to still call them to reserve it. Those 10 seconds were like the most important 10 seconds in his life.
 
No need to start a fight here folks. But, it is very harsh for some of you to say that talk and surf at the same time is pointless because this is just one of the many cases that people would use their phones.

I do talk and surf the web same time and many people in my office do, so it is not fair to say absolutely no use.

Go for what works best for you.

For me, I am not married and I don't want to for a while, so this commercial is weak source. Marriage is a whole new problem.
 
Why does he get the Accept/Decline screen? His phone was sleeping when "Ella" called him, yet he still gets the Accept/Decline screen.

I know you can do this with a jailbreak, but I doubt they're advertising with a jailbroken phone

Yeah, it can be helpful at times. Although, I've said this before but, I've been fortunate enough to be near WiFi everytime I had to use voice/data simultaneously.

So, just because YOU don't need or use it, no one else finds it useful? That's a very narrow mindset. I'm at AT&T user and will remain with AT&T... I still think the Verizon commercial was better.

And how does a guy like that get married to even forget his anniversary?

You misunderstood me. I never said that it's not useful. I would be dishonest if I said that it's not useful. I'm just saying that there's no NEED. It's simply my opinion and I know people disagree with me. It's not a narrow mindset. There is truly no need for it. It's a luxury.
