If the Damned 3G would work as promised, no iphone 3G owners would really need Wifi.

Not sure where you are, but I was getting very good 3G performance today here in Northern Virginia.

But WiFi is still faster, particularly here at home obviously, but isn't that what you would expect?

Geez! Can AT&T do nothing right?

How does this keep happening!? How could a whole web page be designed - with details about a certain service - and put in place, only to have someone else pull it and claim "mistake." Clearly at AT&T the right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing.

I hope Apple is making a lot of money from AT&T, because AT&T's making Apple look the fool.

Apple are doing just fine on their own. They already made themselves look the fool by designing a web page touting exaggerated push features of MobileMe. They quietly rewrote the page after the launch.

Not to mention:
  • Lack of iPhone stock
  • MobileMe launch fiasco
  • Premature charges for free MobileMe trials
  • Cracks in the white iPhones
  • Unstable and slow operation of version 2.0 software
  • ...

Power consumption and speed is better on Wifi. Even Apple's ideal conditions 3G is 50% slower. I think it's in AT&T's best interest to provide free WiFi to help them manage the data load on their towers.

This is true. Perhaps the evolution of Wi-Max will solve all problems here.

Until this really happens...

I hope that sometime in the future AT&T gets this up and running. Until then, I use two hours a day free at any Starbucks by simply purchasing one beverage per month on my registered Starbucks card. I'm not a Starbucks PR stooge, just a guy that likes caffeine and free wifi. Just check their web page for the offer. You register a Starbucks card after setting up an account with Starbucks. They give you a matching AT&T login to use everyday for one 2-hour session per day. Works from any laptop, iPhone or Touch.

Apple may have dropped the ball a little lately, but it is beyond pathetic how many times AT&T has screwed with us on this.

Apple definately has slipped up a bit lately. Ill probably get shot or cussed for this but it almost has me wondering if they are focusing more on these phones than our macs.

Ex. Friend has a broken mac but cant be seen bc of all of this iphone hysteria. Have they built an uncontrolable monster?

So, from all this, I conclude that the free AT&T Wi-Fi for iPhone users is not available, right?

Alex

My iPhone connects to a WiFi network called 'attwifi' in Starbucks. When I launch Safari, I get the following screens below...is there a login for us iPhone users?
