That's not true at all. That's like saying if you can afford an HDTV you can afford $150 cable. But maybe I just want an HDTV to watch movies, umm?

Sounds true to me! How many buy an HDTV just to see it in HD only part of the time? Its like buying rabbit ears for an antenna on a 60" Plasma. If you cant swing with the BIG BOYS - then just buy the 25" Tube TV and call it a day. :D

Woot! This is great news! Going back to what I posted on the other thread -

We need a "Unlimited Everything" for this phone. one price per month for all the features and NOT a "nickel & dime" me for every feature plan.

This is GREAT news! I'm so happy that the :apple: iPhone isn't branded as some cheap 7-11 Food Stamp Walmart Pre-Paid Ghetto Phone plan for the Homeless.

Exactly what I was hoping they would do!

Everyone else that uses a phone 10 mins a month, browses the Internet 2 times a year - Need not apply. Wait for the Widescreen iPods later this year.

A part of me hopes that one day, you loose everything you have and you have to rely on the same "cheap 7-11 Food Stamp Walmart Pre-Paid Ghetto Phone plan for the Homeless" options that some hardworking lowerclass people do. Its a shame that a lot of people think (or in your case dont) like you because thats whats wrong with this world. Its okay, karma's a bitch ;)

well if you want to pay $500 or so for a 4GB or 8GB ipod then more power to you, but to be honest, if you won't use the phone function you are paying a lot of money to appear cool yet look stupid for paying that money for very little functionality.

WOOT! Been saying this for a week now on the forums! I would venture to say someone would look even WORSE buying a pre-paid calling card at Walmart for the :apple: iPhone just to "look cool". :p

I can't wait until the iPhone arrives. I can see Steve Jobs delivering his keynote at WWDC and re-introducing the iPhone. I am confident we haven't even caught a glimpse of how cool this phone is and what all it will be able to do. Steve gave us a sneak peek, when it is unveiled in less than a month, maybe some of the skeptics will finally understand why it was tagged as REVOLUTIONARY.

A lot of us are trying to apply old cellular plans to the iphone and I just don't think that is going to be the case. Look what Apple did with music, movies, television, etc on iTunes. They've got something new cooked up for the iPhone. The most innovative phone needs the most innovative plan.

Innovative Company + Innovative Phone = Innovative Cellular Plan
;)

This is not simply a cool phone. The iPhone is going to be able to do more than be our iPod, phone, camera, calendar, email, web browser, (as if that isn't enough); the OS will be a dream. Finally a phone I can understand. But I just know there are secrets with the iPhone that will blow even the biggest of dreamers like myself away. One more time.... with Leopard, we will be able to connect our iPhone to our computer, Apple TV, iChat through the phone (a second camera just might be hidden in the front...don't be surprised by that one). Using Leopard we will be able to access movies, music, shows, etc off of our computer, thus eliminating storage on the phone. What about Google's aquistiton of YouTube....? Streaming television to your iPhone. Yep. How about iChating on your iPhone to your entire family in the living room via Apple TV ??? Can it happen? Will it happen. I cannot wait until WWDC.

Excellent post! I just as excited and I cant wait to get mine too!! :D

visual voice mail is not a FREE feature. It is the next tier up from enhanced voicemail and will be 4.99

PDA would be about 34.99 but you might have something like BB messenger which would use data and not SMS

now if you need unlimited SMS and unlimited DATa then it's 49.99

and you need 7 to 7 cause I'm not spending another 20 bucks to get 900 minutes when I can double my minutes by getting 7 to 7

How are you gonna have any rollover minutes with 450 anytime minutes thats like what 4 2 minute calls a day!!!

Wifi will only work if you have unlocked wifi at your work or home, but on the road att has about 40,000 wifi locations that is why i use the 19.99 bolt on.

So really you are looking at least a 110 bucks or more for this. It's still a great deal.

I agree! Like I have posted before - I would love to see a $99.99 Unlimited Plan for the phone. One price to have open access to everything. :D

here is an example on why the iphone and an AT&T unlimited package costs too much...

ps3 systems are collecting dust and ps2 is outselling ps3 purely because of price.

highschool kids shouldn't be allowed to have things like this. they're unnecessary and reinforce bad habits like blowing your money on a shiny tech product rather than thinking about whether you actually NEED it. Plus, they destroy them almost universally. kids can't take care of things like this. I wouldn't even let my kid have a phone, period. There's no need. its all just a want, and I don't deal in wants.

And to any kid who just thought to themselves "but I NEED a phone!": you just showed how young, immature, and inexperienced you are. Rethink your deifnition of the word "need."

I don't think the original poster said anything about needing a phone. If he is prepared to save up his money and purchase a phone then more power too him. When i was in high school i had a mobile phone bought for me, i found it an essential tool to coordinate meeting up with friends and also with family, plus it gave my parents security knowing they could always call me. In this case the original poster is saving up for himself, this is a fantastic lesson in basic personal finance plus it ensures that he will take good care of the phone because it wasn't just handed to him.

Im sure a Ford Focus outsells the BMW 540i as well.
I mean - Its 1/2 the price right? :D :p

i am sure it does.

anywho, i want the iphone as much as anyone else and prob will shell out for an unlimited plan, but if i were to take it seriously for itunes, it needs to have more capacity. for now, it will be the perfect phone for me, but i will still carry my ipod around with all my music.

Who are you to say that kids can't take care of anything? I am a teenager and everything in my possession is in pristine condition. I agree that most kids don't NEED an expensive phone like the iPhone, but most teenagers need a cellphone of some sort for afterschool activities and such. What if they are stuck on the side of the road in a ditch with a flat tire. That is if you would let your child have a car. I imagine you tell your children that a car isn't necessary; that they can walk. You're right, your children shouldn't be happy.

Apple is innovative company, but somehow i dont feel iPhone.
After 3-4 years moultitouch devices will be everywhere.
OK eye candy is good, but thats not enough.
Enyway good luck to iPhone.
I will wait for alternative.

What about us in Canada?

Wireless data is very expensive in canada compared to the U.S I can only imagine my 450$ monthly statement arriving in the mail for the first time...I still want an iPhone!

i have the $19.99/month data plan .. its unlimited with 200 text. i hope that is good enough, cause i am not doubling to the $39.99 a month plan.

Amen!!!

I will gladly pay $500.00 or $600.00 for a phone that enables me to leave my laptop at home, play some music, snap an impromptu photo, and most importantly - integrate my addresses, calendars, other productivity applications.

I will NOT pay for a data plan that costs $50.00 or so a month - or approximately $1200.00 over the life of the minimum contract. The value just is not there.

No data plan - I'm in. If a data plan is required I'll stick with my basic phone service.

This isn't a matter of cost - it's a matter of value. The value just is not there with a mandatory data plan.

Amen brother! I'm not wanting an iPhone as someone who may need an unlimited data plan so that all the bells and whistles work. I'm just interested in maybe a few bells and whistles and hopefully, a phone that works well. By that, I mean not being in a "dead zone" (for a lack of a better term) right where I live. I hate it when the phone and company I have now has a 4 bar signal strength on the main drag where I live and then drops down to 3 bars when I turn into my neighborhood from the main drag, then down to 2 bars when I turn down my street, then down to 1 bar when I turn into my driveway and then 0 bars when I'm in my house or in certain places in my yard. If I lived in 'them there hills' that might be different. But I live in a fairly populated area of a big city. Not a major city like NY or LA, but again, not in the sticks either. So if there are not varied options when it comes to a data plan and if the thing sucks at getting a signal where I live, then I won't bother with it, no matter what the iPhone hype and craze is. "The value just is not there."

But I like the iPhone and I hope that it will work out for me!

big cities like New York or Boston.

Okay, obviously you've never been to Boston. It's DEFINITELY not a big city. You can walk across the ENTIRE city, THE LONG ROUTE, in 45 minutes.

It's the 24th "largest" city in the US. Hell, Milwaukee is bigger.

I used to live in Boston. ;)

On a relevant note, the unlimited data plan with AT&T is $40 on top of your phone plan. That makes the iPhone's cost of ownership incredibly high.

yeah thats in "3-4" years and this is NOW.

your also right apple is an innovative company.. this multitouch is kind of innovative I guess...and the full fledge HTML internet, visual voicemail, fully syncing calenders, pictures of family and friends, a camera to take pictures off hands, maybe make a phone call, and oh when I want I can play music on it or watch a movie as I sit in the airport. I can do all of this in one device thats all touch screen?

yeah thats not really innovative...I can't wait to see the alternative with crippled features and phone companies that are stuck in the past with their crappy interfaces.

have fun I'll be enjoying my iphone while you use whatever thing you do.

OK I've read all your posts and You seriously need a proffesional help. You obsessed with translating iphone into size of your penis!
Change your name from tattoo to something "I hate people that doesnt show off their credit score and BMW"

if you can afford $500 on a phone, you can afford a expensive plan.

i dont think this will be as mainstream as they think.

false. example: me. I am in high school and don't have enough money to pay $100ish a month. but i can save up over a few months for $500 easily if its a one shot spend.

my point is directed at people like you. if your willing to save up months for a phone, look at yourself, get your priorities straight in your life.

Come on. I can see being offensive if you're funny and attacking someone big and powerful, but to name drop people on food stamps, the homeless, and people who live in "ghettos" in one post?

I will afford an iPhone because I will save up, but it doesn't mean I can afford an expensive Plan, I think it will be mainstream because who would have thought someone would pay £300 for an iPod, but Millions upon Millions did.

If you had bought 20 shares of Apple stock the day before it was announced, you wouldn't have to save anything!
