I'm not impressed at ALL with these new mobile share plans. First, my 20% FAN discount only applies to the base pool of data. Secondly, they are MUCH more money then what we currently have. People can argue you now get unlimited minutes, but I barely use ANY minutes on our family plan.
We have 5 iPhones, 700 minutes with rollover, unlimited texting (with unlimited nights and mobile to mobile calling), and each phone has the grandfathered in $30 plan (with 3GB speed cap). It costs me $100 for the first line (that has the minutes, unlimited data and $30 unlimited texting and mobile to mobile) and a little less then $38 additional iPhone. Our bill (including our 20% discount) is $250 each month and we have virtually the same thing as a family share plan. Since we have thousands in rollover minutes that we never use, and have unlimited data (even though speed gets throttled at 3GB, we don't pay overages).
If we convert to mobile share plan we would have to get the 15GB plan, for $160 , after our 20% discount it comes out to roughly $130. Then each line is $30, so $30x5 = $150. This brings our total to $280 BEFORE taxes. I estimate that we would be up near $300 after taxes and all of AT&T's crazy charges.
This would mean at least a $50/month extra, and we risk having overages if we go over 3GB per month... Whereas if we keep our family plan now, we only risk going over on minutes, which between unlimited mobile to mobile and our huge rollover, I doubt that is EVER a likely scenario. And even if we did, we would have $50 a month in savings each month to apply towards any minute overages, which I am pretty sure are cheaper then the $15/GB they charge for data overages on mobile share.
Perhaps if they re-structured the FAN discount on mobile share plans, as well as introduced rollover data for said plans, maybe then I would consider it, even if just for simplicity.
