Shop->Smartphones->SGSIII 16GB->Add to cart->New Customer->Zip Code->*With Wireless Service*->Individual->SGSIII [no idea why you need to do that twice, but from the checkout seems they only charge you for one]->Yes->Next->No->Individual->choose a plan->2GB for $30

Shop->smartphones->zip code->SGSIII 16GB. After adding to cart, options under 'new customer' are 'add more devices' or 'continue to plans'. Plans are data share.

Looks like they 'fixed' that loophole.

Again...this only appears to work for Android phones. Selecting an iPhone gives you a completely different screen at step 4.

Ugh, just tried it again for the Droid and it's not working. So I guess we're ****ed. Thanks for nothing vzw, bunch of ****ing ****less ***holes, as Jobs would say. Oh man I am so pissed right now.

Anybody else thinking about giving Sprint a try? How well do they work in NYC? I'm planning to move there by January.

This makes me :(

this was a few years ago but i've walked around in midtown and had my old sprint BB lose signal every other block. outer parts of brooklyn were unusable.

and sprint it not even cheaper, just unlimited data which is not that much with their slow service

For those wondering......if you have a FAN discount like me, you only get the discount applied to the main bulk of the plan, not each line.

Pretty sure that depends on how the FAN contract was negotiated. Some companies get discounts on data, but not others. I suspect a similar situation will happen here.

Can't wait until this plan launches then so I can officially see. It might save me about $10/mo and give me 2gb of data, at the minimum.

For an individual it will cost me more AND I'll lose unlimited data. I only see this as a benefit for those on family plans, not single users with a couple of devices and a high data usage.

Well there's two iPhone 4Ses on my plan and a regular 4. And at least one already has tethering...

Does anyone else remember when unlimited data was $30/month?

Now they want to charge $85 (and up) for 1 GB/month!

Tethering an iPad

If tethering is free, isn't it a better deal to use tethered data off one of the iPhones than to pay to add a laptop or iPad to the plan? i.e. $90 (6GB) +$70 (2 phones @ $35/each) +$20 (laptop) = $180 ($170 for an iPad, since that's only $10), OR $120 (10GB) +$60 (2 phones @ $30/each) also = $180... and then tether the laptop or iPad AND have an extra 4GB of data! What am I missing?

Shhhh, you're making sense. AT&T doesn't want you to realize that data is data and if they're charging per amount of data, it makes ZERO sense to charge different amounts based on what device is receiving it.

Financially better. My only concern is that I will be using my battery on both devices. I only use my iPad data while traveling so battery life can be a problem. Maybe iPhone battery is not used much for tethering. Hope that is the case because that is my plan.

I remember with the original iPhone it was $20. How did you caclulate the $85 compared to $30. Are you forgetting the voice minutes and text messages on the existing plan?

I just went to AT&T's site and it looks like the new plans are available today. I ran the numbers for 3 phones with 6GB of data, and AT&T comes out to $11 a month cheaper over Verizon. I still can't make up my mind! haha

I was able to log into the premier site yesterday and do a mock purchase of a 5 line shared data plan, but I'm not able to change my current plan to the new plan. Based on the mock purchase of my 5 lines, I would save $22.50/month before tax.

Are you able to change your current plan? I still can't do it today.

I was accessing it through Premier as well. I didn't try to put the order through as I'm not sure if I want to change yet.

I'm not impressed at ALL with these new mobile share plans. First, my 20% FAN discount only applies to the base pool of data. Secondly, they are MUCH more money then what we currently have. People can argue you now get unlimited minutes, but I barely use ANY minutes on our family plan.

We have 5 iPhones, 700 minutes with rollover, unlimited texting (with unlimited nights and mobile to mobile calling), and each phone has the grandfathered in $30 plan (with 3GB speed cap). It costs me $100 for the first line (that has the minutes, unlimited data and $30 unlimited texting and mobile to mobile) and a little less then $38 additional iPhone. Our bill (including our 20% discount) is $250 each month and we have virtually the same thing as a family share plan. Since we have thousands in rollover minutes that we never use, and have unlimited data (even though speed gets throttled at 3GB, we don't pay overages).

If we convert to mobile share plan we would have to get the 15GB plan, for $160 , after our 20% discount it comes out to roughly $130. Then each line is $30, so $30x5 = $150. This brings our total to $280 BEFORE taxes. I estimate that we would be up near $300 after taxes and all of AT&T's crazy charges.

This would mean at least a $50/month extra, and we risk having overages if we go over 3GB per month... Whereas if we keep our family plan now, we only risk going over on minutes, which between unlimited mobile to mobile and our huge rollover, I doubt that is EVER a likely scenario. And even if we did, we would have $50 a month in savings each month to apply towards any minute overages, which I am pretty sure are cheaper then the $15/GB they charge for data overages on mobile share.

Perhaps if they re-structured the FAN discount on mobile share plans, as well as introduced rollover data for said plans, maybe then I would consider it, even if just for simplicity.
