The 4890 is not going to work in osx without flashing it.
You need 2x6pin cables, i bought it from ebay. Nothing more.
The sound is ok, i dont know why everyone said that its make a lot noise. I had many VGA cards in my pc, ( im hardcore gamer) but this one is the one with low noise.

is it simple or difficult?
and will there be any problems with the card if i upgrade my osx to 10.5.7 or 10.6 or maybe in the future 10.10? :)

Why XFX ?

Yes that 2x6 pin cables.

Search in 4870 thread here to see how to flash. I dont think you will have any problems in the future, the 10.5.7 will make easer the flashing procedure.

What does the card come with? I have a X1900, will I be able to use a cable from that?

Sorry for the noob questions, thanks in advance!

4890 Rom

THIS IS ALL AT YOUR OWN RISK

I MAKE NO GUARANTEE THAT THIS WILL NOT BRICK YOUR CARD

Got that out of the way. I have taken the EFI portion of ROM and changed device id to match card & PC BIOS. I then used pipolomo42's method to construct a Mac 4890 ROM.

It might make the card show up in OSX...but for sure no QE or CI until you add the device id to the ATI kexts. It is also possible that Apple will add these to a future driver update.

I don't expect this is gonna be a final solution, but rather a step in the path.

Good luck.

I have added the device id to the ATI kexts. Im gonna try now and flash the card. If something goes wrong can i flash back in the original rom from my MP? Or i need a PC ?

Thanks anyway.

It should still function as a PC card....but as I said, I don't know for sure.

That is what happens when you are a trailblazer...you go into new land.

Eager for your report.

well if you have this card, then i'm gonna have the same one :)
i don't wan't to get in trouble you know

is there a difference between this one and the 1st one in the 1st page?
does it make it the card fully functional now? or it will still be 4870 on osx?

I have absolutely no idea.

My guess is that whiteyz is having some issue or we would have had a gleeful report from him.

And don't buy anything until we know how it works.

Maybe you don't understand what is going on here. He bought a 4890. I have stated that I don't think it is going to be easy or work right off.

He dumped the ROM from his card and I made a Mac ROM for it. But we have no way of knowing how it works until he comes back and posts.

so when whiteyz flash his card with the new rom, we will know if it worked or not.
ok i'll wait until we hear from whiteyz his report about his experience with the new rom, i just hope it will work out, because i've been waiting too long for this moment.

Ok i thinkg im ready to flash it, but im worried about the dump of the rom that i did, maybe i did it wrong, because i read something about 128kb size, and GPUZ gave me 64000k. Is that ok? Ok now i dump it with winflash and gave me 128kb. Here is the ROM, can you make a custom ROM with this pls Rominator so i can try it?

Thanks

I flashed with this but nothing changed.

4890 update ????????

Hello?

Even booting DOS off a USB stick you could have flashed this 100 times by now.

Posting failures is just as important as posting success.

Card should function exactly as it did...hopefully with SOME appearance of life in OSX.
