Does anyone know how to get rid of the "Bookmark" toolbar on iCab? That is the only feature I do not like and I can't seem to get rid of it. Every time I save a page, it gets bookmarked on top below the URL link.

I'd like to know this as well. This is one thing that drives me crazy about iCab. I feel it is a huge waste of space. for now I'll stick with Atomic till I can get rid of the damn bookmarks bar.

It's quite frustrating and the only thing holding me back. It would be nice if these two apps wouldn't drain my batter so much.

A browser is not draing your battery. I have used each of these apps on both the iPhone and iPad and they are not battery drainers.

I have only used Atomic so far. I like it, however I do get annoyed with one item: When I touch the URL bar, it should highlight the URL so it gets erased when i type a new one. Having to tap again on the circleX to erase doesn't make sense. I need to edit the URL less often than I want to type a new URL.

An interesting thread to read, but it doesn't sway me one way or the other yet.

I am leaning towards iCab from my own research. I don't know exactly why, just a "feeling". I do like the interface better in iCab.

This is like trying to choose between buying a Honda Accord versus buying a Toyota Camry. :)

The good thing is they are both dirt cheap :) Use both.

Atomic is great because it allows you to make use of gestures, which is nice on the iPad. When you see the iPad you almost assume the glass is also a trackpad of sorts. Wrong btw.

Atomic is great because unlike Opera Mini Browser they're not rendering on their own servers and storing private data. Opera should not be allowed to have a browser in the app store. Opera is not a topic in this thread but worth mentioning. Both Atomic and iCab use the safari web kit. Important to know.

Atomic has a bug. When I am typing a reply (for example) in a forum (like this) out of no where the cursor disappears. If I go to move said invisible cursor to another area the whole box is selected. Unless I hit "preview post" I am unable to move the cursor elsewhere in the box (around to a word I may want to delete for example). It is annoying. The next bug is that I click "reply" wait for the page to load and start typing. Within 3-5 seconds my text is gone. No rhyme or reason.

I downloaded iCab. Bookmarks bar, no finger gestures, same security you get with Safari but as the Atomic dev said, if you want secure use Safari. Let's face is, Safari is the more secure on the iPad but overall is anything secure? Who the **** knows?! I miss the finger gestures but I do not miss that really horrible bug that is in Atomic. I've tried to tell Atomic through these forums and I seem to be ignored. Well, I have not checked in the last few days but up until about 4 business days ago I was ignored.

Point being, Atomic is a buck, iCab is two, you need to make your own decision. If you can't afford to pony up 3 bucks for two really awesome browsers then stick with safari. No one disliked safari they disliked not being given a choice.

Atomic has a fairly large bug (for me at least) which makes it unusable.

When accessing certain social networking websites clicking on profiles will result in 'This user is no longer a member of <website>' even though clicking on the same link in any other browser comes up with a result.

It's unfortunate because everything else about Atomic works great for me.

I abandoned Atomic for iCab because, among other things, Atomic displays a confirmation every time I save an image, and I save many images while I surf NSFW sites.

Both Atomic and iCab displays both the copy blue box and menu on a long-tap. This annoys me, and it does not happen with Safari.

P.S.: Well...I like nature and animal pictures too, and artsy ones.

.

If you press the hide keyboard button then tap the text entry box again you get the cursor back. Still a bug but a quicker workaround than pressing preview

I can't believe that the gestures don't have more weight on your guys' decisions.

I use Atomic and haven't even used iCab but just knowing it doesn't support gestures stops me from even trying it.

I use Atomic in full screen with all the screen buttons shut off so there is no complaint about the UI. When I need to type a URL i just use 3 fingers to bring up the address bar.

I use a down swipe to bring up the bookmarks bar, an up swipe to go to the bottom of the page, a right swipe to go to the previous page and a left swipe to reload the page I'm in. I'm so used to this that I try to use it in other apps out of habit now, I couldn't go back to a browser that doesn't offer gestures.

I tried this feature on Atomic, but didn't like it. For some reason, it wasn't reliable for me.

Sounds cool. I may have to give it another try. Hopefully the next upgrade will be more stable. There's a bookmark bar?

Have you tried since the update and turning on the feature for shorter swipes? I never have an issue with it.

No bookmark bar yet, but with swiping to bring up the bookmarks, I really don't miss it from my Safari browser. The bookmarks come up near instantly, give it a try.

Is there a way to disable the confirmation every time you save an image? That was the thing that drove me to iCab, which I am happy with.

I've also just switched to icab. Atomic's bugs with opening links in background and losing focus on type areas annoys me to no end.

When using atomic, you can long press to open a link in the background tab, but when you're zoomed in a page, it often opens up a wrong link.

Also if you're typing something when a page is still loading, wether the adressbar or a replybox as this one, you'll lose keyboard focus when the page is done loading.

Also atomic can't handle popup login dialogues and it can't save typed passwords.

Icab can do all of this without problems.

Agreed. I've been using iCab exclusively for a few days and I see no difference. If there is a difference, it would seem to be extremely small.

On Facebook with atomic , I get a bug with the keyboard not popping up when I want to update my status. Other than that I love the gestures and the full scream mode.

Try going to the settings and choosing 'Identify Browser as' option. Select Desktop Safari then close the browser then reload facebook. You should have no problem.

I started with iCab and then bought Atomic.

I've stuck with atomic since the tabs remain visible in full screen mode.

there is a strange issue with the tabs in icab; when I try to close a tab and press the little X it registers on the middle of the tab instead and remains open lol.

Atomic

I am using atomic to write this and have found a reproducible bug. Maybe it's my iPad but it could be the browser. When I close the app and reopen it seconds later, it forgets all the tabs that I have open except the last one opened. Has anyone else experienced this?

Before calling something a bug, perhaps you should investigate the settings offered by Atomic. Go into the settings and Go to Startup screen and then choose Last Session(all open tabs). That will take care of your issue.

There is another annoying "bug" with atomic. It only saves the state of the tabs when it's cleanly shutdown. If it crashes, it'll open the last saved session.

iCab saves the correct session.

"A bug when it crashes"

huh? I think you are extrapolating a bit to far there....

by far, Atomic is more robust, stable, faster and more American that iCab, and half the price.

I have icab, but between Safari for passwords and Atomic for power tabbed browsing I can find no reason to use iCab.

You may call it a design error, an american feature, or whatever you like, but when the session opened isn't the last session at all, it's a bug.

by far more American that iCab.

Really? That truely is a reason for you to buy anything? Because it's american?

Just like the iPad, you buy it for whatever you need it to do. If you don't need a solid session state, password saving, a correct ssl certificate handling, actual password popups handling, you can stick to atomic.
