ETF charge is if u leave at&t, you are simply changing the resposibility of the line, not cancelling...

$18 fee is like an activation fee, they have to create a whole new account for you.

the question is though, how long ago did you get your subsidized phone? are you going to be eligable/close to being eligable for an upgrade by july 11th??

I have no idea what my eligibility is for upgrades. Like I said, I re-uped in April of 2007, what is the standard?

the norm is 21 months into your 24 month agreement that you can upgrade, so technically not till january of 2009, BUT we always make exceptions and can upgrade people early, no biggy... idk how it will work as far as the apple store doing it yet.

You can check by logging into OLAM (The Cingular page log in) -> click on Phone/Device link at the top -> Upgrade

It will either let you perform a upgrade or let you know when your eligible for one.

If I transfer the contract to my name, would my phone upgrade timeline reset?

im on hold with at&t right now getting my credit check. they said this will help speed up the process in store at launch

Crap crap crap crap, I have to put down $500 deposit in store. ARRRRGGG. this is the price I pay for having no credit.

hop on a friend or family members acct i guess?

That sounds like the cheapest thing to do, but then again a cell phone bill does help build a little credit. My lack of any credit, good or bad, is what has put me in this bind to begin with. I guess I will pony up the deposit. I get it back in a year of good standing.

And I don't really want to have to find someone who wants to buddy up on a cell plan. my whole family is on sprint.

Anyone know if when upgrading to the new iphone from the old one if you need a credit check?

My Wife's the main account holder but I'm authorized to make changes to her account ( ie, buy my new phone and change the data plans) Will I need a credit check or my wife?

Not that it'll be an issue, I just wanna be prepared in advance.

Good news is the deposit gets applied to your account after a year. Its kind of a nice surprise.

An additional Credit Check will NOT be required.. Credit Check is only for NEW customers applying for service, current customers don't have a credit check ran again...
