Only my wife got the 3GS, and her account says she has to wait until Feb 2011. But I wasn't expecting otherwise. My 3G, of course, was good to go. But we swap getting a new one every year. She got the 3Gs, I get 4, she gets 5, etc...

They're not screwing you. They're letting you upgrade the primary line before it would otherwise be eligible. They have no obligation to let you upgrade either line early.

So you have to wait. Big deal.

Both our original iPhones were eligible for the discounted iPhone 4 pricing today. We had bought them both when they were first released at full price, only to get the $100 credit when they dropped the price. Hadn't upgraded to either the 3G or 3Gs due to 3G not being available in our area and it still is not despite being only 45 miles from Chicago (there is about a 15-20 mile hole along 94 between Chesterton and South Bend, IN - like all the people the travel to South Bend (i.e. Notre Dame students, parents and alumni don't want 3G all the way there). But we wanted to use some of the new features of iOS 4.0 which is not available for the original iPhone.

So net result was 2 iPhone 4 16MB at $199.99 ea plus tax. Couldn't pre-order both at same time though. I had both in the shopping cart at Apple Store but it wouldn't let me checkout with both in there. So I had to remove one, checkout, and then go thru the same process over again for the second one. Which after trying all day, seemed a minor hurdle.

Anxiously waiting for the 24th!

The issue with mine was that I was fully expecting to pay $199 for the primary line and $399 for the reduced upgrade on the second line just as we did last year.

This time around, however, at&t is allowing only the first line for $199 (which was available for upgrade on the 20th anyway before they extended the eligibility date). The second line they're not honoring the reduced price and want the full retail price.

It is what it is I guess. Called and bitched to no avail. Using a family member's upgrade to get the $199 iPhone upgrade on the second line and doing a phone swap. 'least this way the 2nd line on my family plan isn't getting a new 2yr commitment.

I luv this quote:

I want what I want when I want it and I want it NOW!!!

but anyway try this....ad a line to your family account and buy the new phone. cancel or old data plan (cause when you got the plan you could cancel and sell your iPhone but you cant now) then you will be just paying $9.99 per month for that line. give the phone to your Grandma and everyone will be happy!

Wasn't aware you could take the data plan off seeing as that it's required to have one when you buy the phone.

read my post again.....you cannot cancel as of about 2 weeks ago. but, up until that time you could cancel your data. so if you have had your iPhone and data plan since last year you should be able to cancel the data plan cause you are in a different contract than what it being sold now. they did this to stop people from basically selling their upgrades and canceling the data plan the next day.
