I did, called cust serv who said was not showing as back ordered, but could not provide any more info that 14 -21 business days delivery window.

They're off BO now? I called AT&T's 1-800 number about an hour ago and said it was still on back order.

I've seen a few posts here with people getting discouraged about the wait time. I just wanted to post my own take. But first I'll start with two reminders:

1) Remember that the shipment time is in business days. 14-21 days equates to 3-4 weeks in business days; not 2-3 weeks. Expect your phone to arrive in 3 weeks to one month from the date you order it.

2) When it comes off of backorder, it will arrive REALLY fast. Both of my phones arrived on my doorstep within 3 days of coming off backorder.

Now, my take on the iPhone 5 for all of those getting frustrated with the order process:

At the risk of getting booted from the MacRumors community, I'm not an Apple fanboy. Not by a longshot. The "Macrumors newbie" under my name should tell it all. I don't buy lots of Apple products simply because. In fact, I've owned very few over my lifetime and often research a number of options before picking Apple. I buy PCs because I feel I can get more performance for my money than with Apple. It's also easier to upgrade a PC than a Mac. I don't have a tablet yet (I prefer my slim laptop), and when I do, I'm not yet sold on an iPad over any competitor.

When it comes to phones, size doesn't matter. Performance does. My first smart phone was a Samsung sch-i730. I loved it. It was a giant phone. This was also 2006-2007 and most people still went for sleek little Moto Razr style flip phones. My phone even garnered a few laughts until people saw that I had 8gb of storage with movies, music and more in my palm. To them it was groundbreaking. I loved that phone to death.

The original iPhone came out when I had had my i730 for around a year. I loved the touch screen on my i730, but it was PDA style and really needed the stylus. It would respond to my fingers, but not well and it left unsightly smudges ("that's what she said"). So I decided after careful research that I was going to get the next iphone when my contract was up. I even made the switch from Verizon (better service in my area at the time) to AT&T to get the iPhone 3g when it was just announced. Needless to say, I was hooked. My old PDA phone did everything that the iPhone did (and more... it worked as a universal TV remote which was awesome), but the iPhone did it faster, easier, and in a much sleeker package. The screen at the time was groundbreaking and sexy.

So I held onto that phone until about 6 months after the release of the 3gs and I picked that up. Subtle improvements and more storage made me fall in love all over again. Since I was still under contract, I didn't get the iPhone 4. Besides, I was determined to hold off until the next one came around. The 4s made improvements, but I decided to hold onto my trusty 3gs and wait one more year for the next big one.

Throughout the lifetime of the iPhone franchise, there have been multiple phones operating android and even windows that were supposed to "challenge" the iPhone for supremacy. Most failed miserably from a functional standpoint. Some found their way onto the radar (the Droid Incredible) at least in terms of specs, but never quite made it to the the same altitude as the iPhone. That is, until, the Galaxy SIII. It's a pretty phone. It's fast phone with an outstanding display and great performance. It's also easy to use.

While I spent Fall 2011 and all of 2012 to this point waiting for the iPhone 5, the Galaxy really tempted me. More so than any other "iPhone challenger" to date. Still, I held off. On 9/21 I ordered my white 16gb iPhone 5. And in the 4 weeks following, the wait was excruciating. I compared iPhone 5 reviews to Galaxy sIII reviews. I watched head to head video comparisons. I even went into a few stores and played with the SIII in person and questioned why I was waiting for my iPhone 5. Like many others in this forum, I considered just getting the SIII. Performance wise they are close. Apple fans will say the iPhone 5 is faster in tests and has truer colors, Droid fans will say the Galaxy SIII has a bigger screen with deeper blacks and a better processor. Any way you cut it, they're close.

Well, I held off on the SIII and waited for my iPhone 5. It came last week and I've been using it ever since. It was well worth the wait. The SIII is a nice phone. A great phone, even. But the iPhone 5 is better. It feels more solid, it looks sexier and it's lightning fast. By comparison, the Galaxy SIII almost feels cheap (lots of plastic). I am happier and more excited with my iPhone 5 than I was with my first ever iPhone. The upgrade from the 3gs is unbelievable.

So, those of you waiting and considering a change; hold off. It's worth the wait.

So I know the black 64's are moving pretty quickly. Is this also true for the white 64? I'm thinking of picking one up...

The 64gb must be really unpopular because I'm already getting mine tomorrow! :) Ordered on October 20th and receiving it tomorrow before 3PM. Thought I was gonna have to wait 3-4 weeks!

It seems that MOST (not all) orders have been taken care of through 9/26. I thought 9/27s would start to come off backorder today...but I looked on another forum and they're still on backorder...might be a little longer of a wait than I thought. Really hope they aren't going to have another stretch with no movement for anyone.

I was really hoping that my order would come off back order at least by tomorrow. :/
