An update for people that are wondering
how much longer it takes for your phone
to get to you after Back order.

And yes they do take orders off back order during the weekend

My black 16gb iPhone ordered nd processed 9/24
came off back order 10/17, 17 business days later
shipped 10/18 around 7:00 a.m new york
by ups 2nd day air and will receive it tomorrow.
It was a loong wait 28 days to be exact but hopefully it will be well worth it:D

This will most likely be my last post here hope this helps Best of luck to anyone else waiting for their phones.

I ordered a 16 GB Black on 10-01-12 at an AT&T store. Until today this is what my status page looked like. Under shipping status it said "Processing". Now under shipment status it says "Back-Ordered." I have been on back order since day one. Is that normal for a 10-01-12 order? Possibly is my shipment going to be delayed even more?

It says I am on back order but I am talking about the other order status page where I posted above. The shipment status changed from "processing" to "back ordered". I don't know if that's normal for a 10-01-12 order? Tomorrow will be my 15th business day.

Yeah as long as it says 1 under backorder on that linked page you're back ordered. I'm a 32gb on the same day as you and that's what it says for me

I ordered a Blk 16 GB on 10-02-12 From an AT&T store and noticed earlier mine also went from Processing to Back ordered. Hopefully that is just a normal part of the process.

I'm thinking we will see movements in our orders on Tuesday or Wednesday. The wait has been long, but in the end it will be worth it. I just hope the phone doesn't have any software issues such as the wifi bug, light leaking, or scratches on the screen itself when it comes in. I can overlook the scuffs and nicks as long as it isn't so bad.

This is interesting...mine says that too on that page as well. I hate what it says to explain that status: "Your entire order has been back ordered and will ship at a later date." Makes it sound so far away... :(

Saw on another forum that the 16gb black 9/27 orders are starting to come off backorder. Fingers crossed that they move closer and closer to 9/30 so it will come off backorder tomorrow or tuesday.

I ordered my two iPhone 5 64G black on 10.09.2012 and both arrived on 10.12.2012. Employee states perhaps the reason our phones arrived sooner than if I had ordered the 16GB or 32GB is there my not be much demand for the 64GB model.
 
back watching the thread.

Just a word of warning and I'll depart. After much crap just ordering the phone which I won't go into here and then waiting 3 weeks I ultimately cancelled my order. I ordered a black 32 on 9/30 and here's what happened.

I called Customer Service yesterday regarding the email at&t sends out basically stating that if you used a debit card for your order they may charge your card twice, won't be responsible for any fees incurred due to overdraft, and will have to call you to get your card information again, delaying your order. I had seen no pending transaction on my card or anything up to this point so I called to make sure my order wasn't delayed by this and was told that this e-mail was incorrect, and that if I used a debit card when I ordered that what will likely happen is they won't be able to process it and will cancel my order automatically and I will have to order and wait all over again. All I was asked for when I ordered was a card number and this was absolutely never mentioned whatsoever as being a problem of any kind. I spoke to two supervisors on a call that lasted over an hour and ultimately was told we could cross our fingers and hope it goes through, which was unlikely, or I could cancel and have my upgrade back and fight to reserve one at an apple store like everybody else or just re-order. I just sighed completely exhausted and cancelled and I'm considering calling again to complain and terminate my contract, demanding they waive the early termination fee. Three weeks I waited for nothing and now I'm back where I started. Anyway, if you used a debit card, you're completely and totally screwed apparently and there is absolutely nothing they can or will do to help you. Really if you trust AT&T to do anything more complicated than tying a shoe you're completely doomed. Good luck all.

So, an update. After having to cancel the order and considering hitting stores for the phone, I noticed that the $36.00 upgrade fee had not been removed from my account online. I called and get this part, this is the funniest part, I was told that AT&T would not waive the upgrade fee, on an order that I had cancelled yesterday. I would be paying the fee, and not getting the phone. At this point I completely went nuclear and screamed at a supervisor to the point where there was nothing he could do but hang up. I gave myself an hour to calm down and called for the 16th time since placing my order and immediately asked to speak to my 4th supervisor. He said that of course they would waive the fee (no kidding) and then when I was insisting that they terminate my entire contract and waive the early termination fee as well he said he would do that if I wanted absolutely and asked nicely if he could try to turn things around. He said no matter what, if I re ordered the phone, there would be the same wait as before, 14-21 business days but that things were improving in this respect every day, he in the end got me to re order and waived the new upgrade fee, as well as my last months bill and I now have a zero balance. I paid for the phone with a CREDIT card this time and it will ship when it ships. So, in line with this thread I will give an update

32 gig, black, originally ordered 9/29, processed 9/30, waited 3 weeks until 10/20 and advised by a supervisor to cancel, re ordered 10/21. Let the wait begin (again, *sigh*).
 
I just checked my order, and it says status: In progress, and Quantity Back Order: 1. Is that normal? Will my order arrive as expected?

Just checked my order status on ATT, and I noticed that I had a tracking number. has that always been there? I never noticed. When do you think mine will get of BO?
 
Hmm. The backorder thing is weird. My phone shipped on friday but is was still showing Processing

Yupp, it's starting to irritate me. This weekend, they had a surge of orders going out, and it seems as if 9/27 is the latest. I ordered 9/30 and I hope it gets shipped out early this week.

I hope so. I thought the 32GBs shipped faster than the 16s, but mine definitely has not moved quickly. It seems the ones moving real fast are 32 whites and 64 black and whites.

I am thinking surely this week one of us will see movement in our orders.
