It's actually legit. I started offering the service on my website and eBay auction pages. Service came out today, if mods want to PM me I can explain how it works. Anyways I'm not going to be posting my links because that's probably against forum policy. And by the way the guy selling the unlock codes for 175-200 is not making as much money as you think, it costs us a lot of money for each unlock.

Why does it cost you money? What is the process for you for legitimately unlocking a phone?

^^^ This is bogus! The website does not have contact number for me to call back. I have to put my info and a brief message hoping that they will reply. I don't know why people fall into this type of scam.

Because it's not actually us (resellers) that add the IMEI numbers in Apples database, the distributor does this, we are just authorized resellers.

I'm hearing that it only unlocks the phone for a few hours now. I was going to do it if it was permanent, but I had a hunch that the unlocks being sold were not going to last.

It's a one man operation. I do not have a call center, I respond via email, not sure what is shady about that....but I think you should just wait for the proof. Like I said I'm willing to talk to a Mod and prove legitimacy.

Sounds like it's a single distributor. So if this distributor closes down, then resellers, along with the buyers, are SOL. Is that correct?

I did a Who is! here is the result!

Honestly, the distributor has been offering unlocks for many years, they don't only do just iPhones. But the distributor has guaranteed this is a permanent solution, and this is all I can tell my customers.

That's bs.
Noone can officially unlock an AT&T iPhone.
Carriers can only unlock iPhones locked to their own network.
I know there's alot of desperate people out there trying to unlock their phones and that's what scammers are taking advantage off.

^^This.

You might as well spend the 174 on lotto tickets. You'll have a better return, i'm sure.

MuscleNerd seems to think it's legit

from Twitter:

MuscleNerd
The well-established online unlockers for other cellphone brands are suddenly today selling iPhone unlocks..obviously something opened up

and:

MuscleNerd
This "grey market" access into Apple's database has been around (in the UK for instance) for a while, but typically only brick&mortar stores

Sort of sounds like it. Chronic just RT this:

CutYourSim (@CutYourSim)
4/11/11 7:04 PM
$169.99 To Permanently Unlock any iPhone, any Carrier Remotely www.cutyoursim.com

If this is real i bet the actual cost is about $150 for what these guys are reselling. Of course i would like to go right to the source myself.

iPhone is being repaired now so can't test, but I know @CutYourSim is legit thru past dealings. I'm positive his unlock offerings are legit.

Reckon so, but at least some blokes have the decency to provide false hope. Unlike one MuscleNerd. MN has actually started disallowing followers on Twitter who criticize him.

Tell us all again how the "dev team" passed on the Gevey SIM's workaround due to ethical reasons. The disingenuous man actually claimed that they kicked around and passed on the idea prior to Gevey coming up with it

So in theory if you get unlocked once you can back that up like shsh forever using SAM. Hmm, this is something i was wondering about myself. Never touched SAM myself.

Edit sorry that pic was huge... Twits between musclenerd and sbinger. Haven't figured out an easy way to copy multiple tweet replies.

Someone is selling the ability to add your phone into Apple's IMEI database?

This will only end in lawyers.

This is interesting, just saw musclenerd tweet, if this was indeed been around in the uk for a while, I don't see how it is legal and how they are not caught n sued.

I agree.
Lets sit back and see how this plays before anyone blows their money just to be safe IMO.
If unauthorized IMEI's are beeing added to Apple's unlock database then obviously they can be tracked down, people that do it can get in trouble and those IMEI's can be reversed again to their previous state.
If its a scam after the first batch of people word will get out either way. But IMO I wouldnt chance it.

From what I understood, the guy has access to the AT&T NCK Database, By a contract he signed with them.
So he's selling the codes and he pays them some of the profit.
