Similar questions. I have the 7+ so I have about 12 months on and can upgrade (with trade-ing and 24month extension), but what If I wanted to keep the 7+ and give it as a hand-me down? Can I pay off the difference and keep it then start a new 24 month upgrade? (through apple).

If you pay off the balance of the phone, it is yours. You have the option of paying 1/2 of the phone and turning it in for a new one. No one says you have to buy a new phone at the 1/2 paid off point.
