I really hope they reduce the price, but it should be noted that they are going into each and every account to remove MMS restrictions.

We were just told the real reason why AT&T won’t be supporting MMS on the iPhone 3G or iPhone 3G S at launch, and you’re going to laugh… Technically it will work right away our ninja tells us. The are no extra plans or higher fees we’ve just learned (the unlimited $20 package covers unlimited SMS and MMS), and the reason it’s not good to go right away is because AT&T has to manually remove all the “Opt Out MMS codes” on each account. Basically, if we were to summarize this, and we’re going out a little bit of a limb, remove the Opt Out MMS code, and MMS will work with the final OS 3.0 build right away. Who wants to try it with the GM 3.0 build just released?

I for one have not seen any additional discounts on top of my FAN discount. so I honestly don't know what is going on if people are claiming that they are SUDDENLY receiving this discount out of the blue.

3G users always got a FAN discount? I called and asked last summer and AT&T told me no.

FWIW, I too see the "Original: 39.99" crossed out and then below it, "Monthly: 33.99." I have a university FAN discount and a 3G.

However, for my bill due at the end of this month, it's pretty much the same as it has been since day 1 almost to the dollar. So if this is anything new, I wouldn't be able to find out until next month's bill to see if there are any additional discounts...

What does "FAN" stand for, and how can I get the discount ?

Not really sure what FAN stands for. Are you a member of a large organization? University/work/social clubs? Sometimes you can get a discount on a lots of things.

I work at the University of South Florida. We get a 15% discount on the monthly ATT bill/ no activation fee/ small discount on some headsets.

Just google an organization's name and discounts.

FAN = Foundation Account Number I believe. Every company/university partnered with AT&T has a specific FAN #.

You must have an eligible participating Employer/University partnered with AT&T to have a FAN discount applied to your account if you are currently employed/enrolled by said employer/university. You'd need a valid company email or university email address to apply for the discount.

This is great!

Nice!

I'm seeing this too. Mine has

ORIGINALLY: $80.00 (crossed out)
MONTHLY COST: $64.00

I have an original iPhone with a family plan. I was not eligible for the FAN discount because of the original iPhone. I'm interested to know why all of a sudden it has taken effect.

the discount you guys are seeing such as this has always been there!!! if you guys have a FAN discount then this page reflects that.

is it me or are people just finally realizing that they have FAN discounts???

you have a 20% discount.

I am thinking that AT&T is now allowing FAN discounts for the ORIGINAL iPHONE USERS, which is ABOUT TIME!

did you guys have these discounts on AT&T before getting the iPhone? I ask this because there is no reason why AT&T would just suddenly add FAN discounts to original iPhone users' accounts.

But being that I had an original iPhone, I had a FAN number but the discount was never in effect.

To answer the question above. I added the FAN number after I had the original iPhone for a while. But was waiting to buy a 3G (or 3G S) for it to take effect.

It seems most 3G users always got the discount, likely due to paying $15 more/mo. Now the FAN discount is being applied to the original iPhone users. I tried getting FAN on my account a number of times and no dice. I actually looked up my work's contract and it specifically says no discounts on 3G. So, you're mileage probably varies.

Well, I guess any discount is a good discount. Mine was originally $80 now it's $76.00. I didn't quite get THAT large of a discount, but money is money nowadays.

Better than nothing.

The way mine works out, I pay the price stated w/o tax. 15% just about covers the state and federal fees.

Dude, I go over my bill with a fine-tooth comb every month and this has not ALWAYS been there. I've had my FAN discount applied the week I got my 3G. Every month I see a 39.99 charge for the rate plan, and 30.00 for data. With my university fan discount, I pay around 62.00 dollars a month (and this is after taxes and other charges, plus an extra 200 monthly minutes from a rate code and free unlimited texting from AT&T messing up my bill a few times), and this is without the "crossed out" portion originally appearing on my bill. I'll come back next month and see if there's a $6.00 difference from my standard bill every month and post it here.

I have T-Mobile, but I wrote down my FAN discount when my contract expired a while back.

I just went on AT&T and saw that my new FAN discount is an extra $5 off (combined voice and data).

I think AT&T is giving iPhone users a break on plans, but still not enough to compete with Sprint (Pre) and T-Mobile (G1).

Something else I noticed, I can sign up for a family discount online. I could never do that either, at least with customer reps. I was told a number of times the iPhone plans were an island that can only be combined with other iPhones. Looking at this I could save $25/mo between the FAN and combining the wife's phone. That's big deal when we're shaving a dollars.

Of course, this just makes buying a new iPhone a little more feasible. Looks like we'll be paying about the same as we have been paying, except with two iPhones, one 3G (for ME!)

i think my discount is just now showing up! I do NOT remember getting a 10% discount with FAN that I should have been getting because it previously said,

"Your account type qualifies you to the following discounts. Service discounts are applied to the primary line under eligible agreements and exclude certain rate plan types and devices (e.g. iPhone data features and packages)."

So now that discount seems to be taking place, finally.

So it is finally confirmed that AT&T is allowing FAN discounts on original iPhone plans (and also on 3G iPhones for people whose FAN accounts did not apply to the 3G before).

Can we make this a sticky?

Congratulations all you guys. I am happy for you all. And the OP should rename this thread somehow to reflect the details.
