Dude, I go over my bill with a fine-tooth comb every month and this has not ALWAYS been there. I've had my FAN discount applied the week I got my 3G. Every month I see a 39.99 charge for the rate plan, and 30.00 for data. With my university fan discount, I pay around 62.00 dollars a month (and this is after taxes and other charges, plus an extra 200 monthly minutes from a rate code and free unlimited texting from AT&T messing up my bill a few times), and this is without the "crossed out" portion originally appearing on my bill. I'll come back next month and see if there's a $6.00 difference from my standard bill every month and post it here.

I am guessing the details of your FAN account before (as negotiated between AT&T and your university) did not apply to voice. But now, finally it is. So that must mean AT&T is now allowing your FAN account to be applied on voice, which must have sucked for you before because my FAN account has been giving me a monthly discount on voice and data ever since I got the 3G last year. Better late than never I guess.

You guys might also want to check out if your newly applied discount is also applied on the data portion of your bill.

Anyone know what a company must pay AT&T to allow their employees to get a discount?

So it is finally confirmed that AT&T is allowing FAN discounts on original iPhone plans

I fail to see anything in this thread indicating that.

(and also on 3G iPhones for people whose FAN accounts did not apply to the 3G before).

Why would this be? iPhone 3G users are supposed to be eligible for the discount since it's subsidized whereas the original iPhone wasn't.

Maybe I'm jumping the gun but if you read the thread, several original iPhone users are receiving discounts. That's solid proof for me right there.

dwd3885 and jcde7ago claim to have 3G accounts but did not receive any FAN discounts before. Now they do.

You misunderstood me. I clearly stated above that my total bill should have been over $70.00 for voice+data but with my fan I was paying around $62.00. I have been getting discounts since the week I got my 3G as mentioned above. All I said was the crossed out portion like others have just now started appearing, and whether or not this is an ADDITIONAL $6.00 discount I would have to wait until my next bill to find out.

You could be right. So any other original iPhone users out there getting the FAN discount?

I still don't understand why iPhone 3G users wouldn't be eligible for FAN discount before this. They should've been eligible all along.

oh...I see. yep, misunderstanding on my part.

now we can focus on the topic of original iphone users finally receiving their FAN discounts.

For the global company I work for, AT&T is one of our wireless vendors, hence they extend the discount for personal purchases.

IMPORTANT QUESTION:

Can anybody find out the rumor that cellular taxes are going up? Maybe the reason for the price discount?

Cool. Our 700 minute family plan went from 60 to 45 bucks. And it looks like now I can change to the 550 minute plan for 37.50. But, I'd lost most of my rollover minutes.

i'm trying to check mine but i can't log in. on the computer it just brings up a blank page and on the myWireless app it pops up a message saying that "this service is currently unavailable".

I have the first gen as well. I also have a FAN discount. It has never worked.

My rate plan also has 39.99 crossed out and 33.99 there. It has been like this for months. My bills have never changed. My bill due at the end of this month is the same.

I don't think that us first gens will get our discounts.

so is it a display error?

That's because the first generation weren't eligible for FAN. The phone itself was ineligible and FAN requires a data plan of $30 or greater to obtain a discount which is more than the first generation data plan.

When I got my 3G I had them move the original iPhone to being the second phone so I could get the discount on the 3G phone and data. That way it didn't matter if I got a discount on the $9.99 extra phone. Of course, I still didn't get a data discount on the original.

This is true, I just talked to an AT&T rep about a month ago about this. I had a FAN on my account for about a year and never got a discount, so I called them up. A few days later they called me back after "researching it" (apparently even AT&T is confused by this) and told me the original iPhone, for different reasons, just wasn't eligible for the discount--wonder why we're getting it now? When we pre-ordered the new phone did it immediately switch us to the 3G data plan?

My issue also baffled a Manager at a local AT&T store.

She couldn't get a straight answer on why I couldn't get my FAN.

I had a look at my account today after reading this thread, and no change in pricing for me on my 1st Gen phone. =$39.99 per month + $20 data plan.
I remember that we could not get FAN discounts on the original iPhones, but with the 3G you could.

I plan to get a 3GS in month or so, I also have a discount FAN number from my place of work.
I wanted to know from you guys, if I walked into a Apple store and wanted to purchase a new 3GS (I am a eligible customer), would the apple person understand the FAN discount and apply it to my phone account for activation ?

If not I guess it would involve calling up AT&T...But i want to be careful when activating a new phone and new 2 year plan to not get signed up for a more expensive plan when I should be getting a discount...

When pre-ordering I was talking to the manager and he seemed up on the FAN being applied to the original. He said they just did it. YMMV depending on your FAN contract.

Apple had a revenue sharing agreement with AT&T for original iPhones, which was the reason that original iPhone plans were never eligible for service discounts. My guess would be that the original deal was for that revenue sharing to last for 2 years.

I have always had a FAN discount on my 3G though.

Anyone know what a company must pay AT&T to allow their employees to get a discount?

it's got nothing to do wit that.....a FAN is automatically generated on a business acct. under a tax ID...and as soon as that account gets 5 or more lines it is assessed an 8% discount and the discounts go higher and higher depending on the amount of CRU (company responsible units) the company has under contract:apple:

This makes the most sense of anything. Apple was getting kick backs on unsubsidized phones, and not with the 3G. So, when the two year contracts were up on the 2G, Apple stopped getting their cut. ATT wasn't going to give a discount on top of dishing money to Apple (I remember this conversation with AT&T). Now that's over with, they'll extend the discount. Rather than trying to figure out when everyone's contracts started, they'll just do it starting in July billing.
