See, that was the OP's problem right there. He had a "red" paperclip which will definitely void the warranty. In order to avoid voiding the warranty (if not using the included SIM removal tool), one must use a "green" paperclip like this one...

Don't believe his trickery. If you look closely that's the metric left handed model (look at the direction of the bends in the device). That's meant for the European market only (left side of the road... left handed SIM ejector). It's possible that this poster may be from the UK where this would be the correct one but the red model is definitely the right one for the US market.

Actually there are two shades of red. One is specifically for the white 3gs and that is almost pinkish. The darker red (shown) is for the black 3gs. It's really important you use the right one or your warranty will be terminated. My friend just got back from the Apple store with his jailbroken phone with a cracked screen and water sensor tripped and the genius said he would have taken it back - but it was obvious he had used the darker sim removal tool on his white 3gs.

Wow so i was calling regarding the activation process since I just got my 3gs in and I wanted to use it on a different line on my account than the one I upgraded it with. She told me that swapping the sim out on my own will void my warranty? WTF kind of crap is that. "Only a licensed apple proffessional can do this"

Sorry Guys, had to rant about this one

and working for att voids the GED she got when she was 25.

She actually got a GED?

I think it might be a misunderstanding on her part though, since she did suggest using the SIM ejector tool.

Maybe she means that the SIM has to be in the iPhone when you return it to get serviced... I dunno. It definitely doesn't void the warranty otherwise Apple wouldn't of included easy access with every new iPhone.
