Thats for people who used to get yearly upgrades with a big enough contract. He's talking about calling customer service and having them move your upgrade up which they can still do. Especially if you've been with them for a long time, always pay your bill on time, and threaten to pay the ETF and switch carriers because it's cheaper to do that than pay the $250 early upgrade fee.

Would you switch carriers every year then? The whole "I'm leaving for this carrier" doesn't have the same power it once did.

Is there anyway i can use an upgrade from another line? we have 5 lines, so there is almost always an eligible one available, but mine wont be till may 2013...

If i use another lines upgrade, the iphone will require a data plan...and i plan on using the upgrade on a line of someone who lives across the country, So when i pre-order my iphone from ATT or Apple (online of course), will that line be charged with a data plan when i pay for the phone online OR it would charge the line only when i have activated the iphone with the new sim (at my house presumably)? and since i will be taking the phone, i would never activate it on the sim it comes with, so that line might never be charged with a data plan period?

Also i know the only way to remove a data plan is to call ATT and give them the IMEI of a non data using phone, but since the family members line i am using is across the country, it might be a bit of a challenge!

also, my last question, is there anyway i can just transfer the upgrade of one line to another?

Yes, you or the account holder will have to go to an AT&T store and explain them you want to use a subsidy from another line but not switch the plan and just leave everything the way it is and use the new iphone on a different line on the family plan. They do it all the time.
Dont go to Apple or order it online though, it would mess things up and then you will have to switch sims, remove data plan etc....
You will have to do in person at a corporate AT&T store.

Thank you very much! My line is the primary and I'll definetly be doing this!

I need some advice guys -
I have a 4S, bought it shortly after launch, added a line to the family plan (was on virgin mobile before). I want to upgrade to the 5 as soon as it launches.

Would it be a bad idea to start selling my phone now on craigslist? Do I need to go the ETF route? Also, if I do terminate it early, can I still keep my $25/2GB plan that's now defunct? I don't need 3GB a month, but 300mbs is too low.

If I go the upgrade route with the $250 + iPhone Price, do I need to wait till my new iPhone comes to do so?

Finally, is it possible that at&t allows for the early upgrade on the subsidized price again like they did previous years? (Not last year)
