That's why he said "sort of like Verizon has built in throttling for its 3g customers". Not "they are throttling".

Put down the VZW blow up doll, turn off the caps lock, take a beep breath, and focus on reading and comprehending what was posted.

Thanks EddyP, glad someone on here has good comprehension ;)

I never said that Verizon actually was throttling, just that if you have Company A (say Att) over here with an average of 3 mbps where Company B (say Verizon) has an average of 1 mbps then its kind of like Company B is throttling its entire network in order to keep it slower and more stable.

As of right now I could see an advantage of Verizon (better coverage, unlimited data option) but once the unlimited data option is gone on July 7th the Att-mobile merger next year will take away Verizons very last benefit (better coverage) no?
- Verizon $30/mo for data minimum vs $25 or $15 options with Att
- Att talk and surf at the same time
- Att rollover minutes
- Att faster 3g data speeds (4g LTE is atrocious for battery life)
- Att has sim cards so you can use 3g phones overseas

in 2yrs, you'll be paying 1 finger/GB to AT&Verizon for the privilege of them allowing you own a phone on their network. Better keep that phone, though, b/c the ETF will be one of your legs.
That was posted on Engadget...lmfao very true.

As a man who has eaten a lot of animals, this offends me greatly.

I think it is highly likely that if/when we get a 4G iPhone we will be forced out of our unlimited data. But I seriously hope I am wrong about that because I have held on to unlimited all this time just in case we can keep it when 4G hits.

AT&T and T-Mobile merger is really not going to provide AT&T better cover. It will be pretty much the same as it is now. Look at T-Mobile 3G map and compare it to AT&T 3G map and there is no were T-Mobile has 3G that AT&T does not. Cover wise Verizon still wins.

Verizon is rolling out LTE big time and speed wise from that is blowing AT&T fake 4G out of the water and has much better ping times.

I was someone who did not think there was a chance of Verizon doing this.

I was wrong and I couldn't be happier as I have unlimited with AT&T and am hopeful AT&T answers with this

With that said, both AT&T and Verizon will soon try to get the unlimited crowd off their books. Whether it is the contract after this or whatever, it will happen in the near future, imo.

Same here DiamondMac :)

Its weird that even if Att eventually kicks me off unlimited somehow I would still be perfectly ok with switching to the $15 data plan and sipping data by using Opera Mini browser, Pulse news reader when around wifi, and Navigon GPS app with maps built in.

But Verizon not even offering a cheaper / less data option for light users? Wow, what a slap in the face that wreaks of cockiness...

Wow, Verizon's plans are a complete and utter rip-off. $80 for 10 GB? I'm sorry, but that's awful. 10 GB is nothing. Maybe the size of 2 or 3 HD movies from iTunes.

Verizon is cheaper than AT&T for that much data.

AT&T is 10 dollars per extra gig you use over your 2 gig plan. So that is 8 gigs extra, so 80 dollars on top of the 25 you pay.

Verizon is cheaper if you want to use a lot of data. Verizon is expensive if you want to use 2 gigs (and you don't even have a cheap option if you don't use much or want to get a smartphone on the cheap with the trade off being you have to try to use wifi a lot more).

It's pretty arrogant/silly/both of Verizon honestly. Accepting that most users use less than 2 GBs they are making themselves the more expensive option of the two for most. They are making themselves cheaper for the rarer customers, and the customers I hear the cellular companies don't want, the data hogs so to speak so they are attracting the kind of customers that supposedly the cellphone companies are trying to discourage. So that is the silly part. The arrogant part is that they think they can make themselves not competitive when it comes to price cause obviously they feel that people will pay that extra to be with them.

Well, I'm just glad I'm happy with AT&T's service (and that I still have my unlimited but even if I didn't, I'd be extra glad I was happy with AT&T's service).

Verizon's pricing is insane. At least AT&T lowered price to $25 for 2gb. Looks like "competition" in the wireless industry isn't so healthy after all.

I agree. I’m happy with my $15/month plan b/c mostly I’m in Wi-Fi accessible areas. Lets hope AT&T doesn’t follow Verizon.

I'm an AT&T user but not sure why I'm about to eat crow. Have to give it to the OP for being so passionate about the 'issue'.

Verizon and others have done a fantastic job brainwashing so many into thinking that someone watching several HD movies on their phone is an "abuser"

Such a joke but many believe it

You do realize that Verizon's LTE prety much tops out around 12-15 Mbps in the real world. PC Mag and a few others have tested it against T-Mobiles HSPA+ network.
Yes. Verizon's LTE network has great peek speeds, but they are inconsistent.

T-Mobile can push an average speed of 25Mbps over their HSPA+ 42Mbps network with the same or better ping times as Verizon's LTE network.
They can match Verizon's average LTE speeds over their HSPA+ 21Mbps network.
Also, T-Mobile doesn't cap the HSUPA upstream like AT&T does, so their ping times are on par with LTE.

AT&T wants T-Mobiles backhaul that drives their HSPA+ 21Mbps and 42Mbps networks.
This will make their HSPA+ really move.

Brb, Still browsing the web while talking on my iPhone...

Now THAT'S funny!
But the real issue for ALL of us is that, no matter which carrier we use, there will come a point when one of them decides to discontinue the grandfathering (greed), the other will follow suit and then we will ALL be stuck with a pay as you go system.
I am an equal opportunity hater- I have no love for either Verizon or AT&T, nor for the 'regulatory' system which allows the US to have an inferior telecommunications system.

My theory is that Cali4ever stumbled upon this photo and loved it so much....

eat-crow.jpg

that he decided to create an entire post around it.

Two things: I'm vegan, so I refuse to eat any crow. Also, I would've been surprised if Verizon didn't grandfather unlimited. Anyone who thought otherwise, at&t user or not, obviously didn't have common sense instilled into their heads.

However, I'm not surprised that Verizon is ripping people off with their tiered data. There are no cheap options for low data users.

If you're with this rip-off outfit, you should be the one eating crow.
