Leave it to AT&T to take a great concept and restrict it, put limits on it and make it completely worthless.
Thanks for nothing.
T-Mobile keeps looking better and better.
Well, they haven't limited anything...

It's not even officially released yet.

From the looks of it since I don't have a shared plan or unlimited talk on my family plan I won't be able to get it.
Also why would it only work when they decide it should only on bad signal area? Why not always work when connected to wifi and route calls thru it when available?
And what does my plan have to do with it?
Let it deduct minutes but make the call thru a solid wifi connection. I don't get all these restrictions. More att nonsense.

You're just jumping to conclusions.

According to the people testing it over on HoFo, it works anywhere there is wifi. Not just when there is weak AT&T.

There are no restrictions yet. We're just throwing ideas out there.

Nothing has been said about restrictions and wifi calling so far. Calm down.

For those using the latest iOS 9 beta builds on iPhone 6 or iPhone 6+, Wi-Fi calling for AT&T is now an option to enable. As has been widely report, most users cannot enable the feature. But everyone can read the "Wi-Fi Calling Trial Participation Agreement". Here are few interesting highlights:

  • You have to have a Mobile Share or unlimited voice/text plan to participate.
  • Your device will only make and receive Wi-Fi calls and texts when cellular coverage is weak or unavailable.
Wi-Fi calling is ONLY available in the US, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands.

Active now in Southern California (Hemet). Note: I have a microcell and that takes priority over wi-fi calling. I guess I have to remove my number from the microcell but it's not possible if it is the number associated with the microcell.

Now that iOS 9 is out, there's an option to enable it. When switching it on in settings I get the error message stating its not available in my area yet.

Isn't wifi calling supposed to be supported on the 5S as well? I never did see the icon in the phone settings on the betas, gm, or the 9.1 beta.

AT&T stated that Wifi calling was available for testing in the beta. Not available (yet) for the general release.

Then just switch, and do what's right for you. Seems like the proper thing to do, yes? I mean... if you're unhappy with something, why stick with it?

No need for it anytime soon. Their network actually works indoors.

TMobile has to do it because of their poor network deployment.
T-Mobile might be doing it for whatever reason they have, but the feature is a good one just on itself. It gives you the ability of receiving and making calls while abroad for free, with your phone number. Also texting. AT&T might work wonders indoor (no network is perfect by the way), but what good is this if you are doing some international travel and AT&T reaches deep into your pocket if you so much decide to turn roaming on, or take or make a call, or take or send a text.

i get the same message that it is not available in my area, i just moved to Milwaukee from Houston and the AT&T service here sucks big time.. all my calls have been going to voice mail...

FWI, I received this message after testing it for the last 2-3 weeks.

I travel a lot, and it would be a godsend if ATT enabled wifi calling for me. I racked up a $200 bill handling business back home while in the Netherlands. I was on wifi for the entire duration of every call.

What I really wish they would do is get competitive on international data. I have spent $500+ for the past few years on data oversees, and I am strongly considering getting a mobile account, just for traveling.
