AT&T should be able to produce some reports by now. I honestly would like to see what the "abusers" numbers really look like and not just this whole top 5% nonsense. I wanna see something that says the top 5% uses X amount of data. Having been an iPhone user since the beginning 2-4gb isnt that hard to do so i'm gonna go out on a limb and say ~6-7gb would place you in the top 5%.

5gb - that's exactly what I've been saying. I use maps and nav - did a test and used 200gb over 3 days

Att just wants us out and are simply greedy f ers. I decided to fight this all the way and not give them satisfaction of leaving.

Want more proof? They just announced 7million new sign ups in 1 quarter! that's 7x$100/m (at least) = 7 billion / _month_ in new subscribers only. Even with expense being over 75%, they can't "afford" to upkeep its loyal 5% clients with unlimited data????? Total bull

5% bull. If 95% truly uses under 2gb, why did Att just changed they data plans and put 3gb as the 2nd most used option (they also have 5th plans, etc)

Look for post #27 here, I have links to the petition on change org
But we should all fight:
- demand proof for this erroneous 5% / 2gb claim
- ask them for a copy of your contract
- don't renew a contract, buy next iPhone at full price (even at $650, you'll get $350 on craig's for your old one)

Errr... where are you getting these numbers? Those sign ups include additional lines, FAN discounted accounts, non smart-phone plans, etc. I think you are grossly overestimating the income that 7 million subscribers generate.

The fact remains that AT&T is making money hand over fist.

But they can't let those who have faithfully paid our $30 of hard earned cash a month for who knows how long keep our unlimited!?

Yeah right!!! I'm so sick of those who are JEALOUS that they either gave up the plan or never had it or came late to the party.

Get over it already, we're not buying AT&T lies nor higher prices.

How cute. You think Big Business actually cares about the consumer and their loyalty. Heck, even if they wanted to, their shareholders wouldn't let them.

Of course, how long you've been an unlimited subscriber shouldn't make a difference since, up until a few months ago, you were getting a far better deal than those who "came late to the party."

The party is over, it was fun while it lasted, but it's time to move on.

How much money they make or have is completely irrelevant.

I had the unlimited plan since the iPhone 3G, however, with the latest iPhone 4, it broke. I recently upgraded my phone to a Android and I already gotten the message like some of you about being throttled at under 2GB. What grinds my gears is because AT&T has just announced their new tier plans which you can get 3GB for $30. That is the same price as the unlimited without being throttled. AT&T wants all of us to get out of the grandfathered plan to their new plans. This is how they treat their loyal customers.

I am really thinking about going to the 5 gig from unlimited because of this throttling crap. It is so annoying. I have been throttles at 2 gigs the last two months.

Wow, throttled at 1.4gigs.

Its getting lower and lower. Eventually you will just start the month throttled.

Retaliate and rack up some high data usage.

Working on it. I'm at 8.5GB data usage as of today's report. I've managed to trickle an extra 4GB even after getting the throttle message at 4.5GB, which I only got so late because I used about 2.5GB in a day on Sunday (on purpose). My billing cycle resets on the 8th, so we'll see how high I can get.

Last month throttling started at 2GB, the month before that 3GB, and now this 1.5GB. This is getting ridiculous. Soon it will be throttled right at the beginning of the month.

I'm in the same boat as you guys. As soon as a lte iPhone comes out, bye bye AT&T. I'd rather have a data allowance then be throttled. If they are going to hurt my data usage, I'm going to hurt their revenue.

I got the throttling warning for the first time the other day after 4 years with the unlimited plan since the iPhone 2G. I checked my usage and I was just over 2GB. I'm usually around 4-5GB a month with no problem. I'm going to raise hell at AT&T if I get throttled. I do not tether and my iPhone is not jail broken.

There's no such thing as an iPhone 2G. Sorry to be that guy, but...

just out of curiosity...

when you do *data# does that data info also include data used over wifi or is it strictly through 3g/network?

Strictly 3G. All data transmitted over Wifi does not count against your data plan and does not show up to AT&T.
In order to find out how much data you use on wifi you'd have to get a data watching app.

Actually the unofficial name for the original is "iPhone 2g". Actually, it can go by many names; iPhone 2g, iPhone original, iPhone first (1st) gen. Sorry, I had to be that guy....

Doesn't matter what Apple called it or not. Like I said, it's "unofficial name" is iPhone 2G. Google it if you need proof. Actually, here's a wiki link, it explains everything.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPhone_(original)

Your original statement didn't reference it as the unofficial name. I'm just saying there is no iPhone 2G. It doesn't even make sense for anyone to call it that.

Actually, my original statement did. I said "Unofficial name".

"The iPhone—retroactively labeled the original iPhone, iPhone 2G, iPhone EDGE, or iPhone 1"

of course it makes sense. when the iphone first debuted in 2007, there was no need to call it anything but the iphone. but when later models came out (the 3g, 3gs, etc.), there became a need to call the original model something else so as not to get confused among the various models of iphones. it's especially confusing when every single iphone model simply has "iphone" printed on the back. in that sense, it's never wrong to call any model of the iphone an "iphone." so how does one refer to the original?

retronym

world war i was not called world war i until world war ii happened.

Oh, sorry, I was referring to Graphicsgeek's statement. He/she did not say "unofficial."

Then why 2G? Why not 1 or 1G? 2G doesn't make sense because of how many became confused calling the iPhone 4 the 4G. This was confusing for some who thought this meant it was 4G speed. Regardless, it's the original iPhone, not 2G. Even the edge iPhone would make more sense. They don't call World War I World War 2 do they?
