I didn't set permissions to 777 like I thought I did, most people don't know to to that, I just used squid the app on installer

Some things I noticed: you can use smaller images, it would be nice to be able to use larger images and just move it around in the future.

I'm impressed, though.

Hmm... I didn't have to set permissions when I installed my App. To make this easier on users, I'm gonna try and get it on a repo so that people can install it pain-free.

That would be nice. Also, PNG support would help out a lot, I think. I'm not sure about the iPod ability to use them, though.

I'm also not finding the previous images I used saved in my wallpapers. Which I could have overlooked?

My app can only use jpegs, sorry. Also, the downloaded Wallpapers should be in /Library/Wallpaper as "Background.png" or "Background_01.png" and each new wallpaper will be numbered in sequence. You might have to quit Settings before the new wallpapers show up. It should even work if you've moved your Wallpaper folder (such as I did) because I have a symlink to it in /Library/

Good luck!

Edit: Maybe you forgot to chmod these files:

chmod 755 /Applications/Wallpaperize.app/alert
chmod 755 /Applications/Wallpaperize.app/gen_unique_filename

I figured that might be the case, and you nailed it. Goes to show what I forget when I'm in a hurry.

Brilliant app.

YAY! Thank you. I spent a lot of hours on it last night but, I didn't give up until I was sure it worked the way I wanted it to.

I have the same problem as Sketh did, but I've already set my permissions on all the files to 0755. Any ideas?

Did you copy it over AFP? I had a friend who was using AFP to copy the App over and it wasn't working when he ran it. Then I told him not to use AFP because it has a tendency to corrupt files and sure enough, once he used SSH, it worked perfectly.

I used Winscp to SSH into my touch, then added it to the /private/var/Applications directory.

look out for common mistakes, i'm assuming you have the bsd subsystem installed, double check the permissions, using mobile finder doesn't set them correctly. Use Squid.

Just look for any things you could have missed.

Yeah, I always use Squid, but it shows them set properly. I'm getting progress though. After opening wallpaperize, and it restarting the springboard, I look in my Wallpapers and 10 blank images show up. That's about as many times as I've tried it, but I don't know. I'll go check again. Maybe I'm missing the purpose of this app? Is it meant for use with the internet?
:Update: I made sure Bsd sub is still installed, and it was. I also tried the other version, 1.0.2b and got the same results

Umm... did you read about how to use it? You MUST find a file first using Safari and make sure the file downloads in a single Safari page and you must have only 1 page open. Then go back to your home screen and run Wallpaperize.app. That's how to use it. I thought I explained that in the read me file.

Yeah, I read the read me and had the browser open then launched it. Just making sure I wasn't doing something obviously wrong. I'll keep messing around with i
Edit: Got it. I've heard of the Dock app messing up some other apps for other people, so I decided to uninstall it and now it works perfectly. Thanks for the help, it's a great app that I've been looking for for a while.

Spaz, i was wondering if there was a way (in future releases) to have the image download to a different folder, as in one that is accessible in the photo app. Basically just to a folder where you can scale and crop larger images. This added function would make the app more appealing, the only folder that doesn't ask to scale and position images is the wallpaper folder, since it assumes pictures in there are resolution size. I'm just basically thinking out loud, I assume the adding of such features may be out of the realm of possibilites. But it would be extremely useful.

I don't think that's possible for me right now because I don't know how the iPod syncs with iTunes to get the images into the Photo app. I looked at the Photos folder and there's just database files and cache files.... I don't know how to decrypt it.... sorry.

Will it work with 1.1.3

Just want to know if this will work with 1.1.3. I hate it that the black screen of Ugly is laying there and cannot be changed. If this will work, then I will try it. I tried it when I was running 1.1.1 jB.

If your 1.1.3 is jailbroken, it will work. See post #1. It does NOT change the black background, it changes the Wallpaper on the Lock/Unlock screen.

i have a good icon for it but i dont know how to put it on, can you tell me?

Make sure it's a PNG and name it icon.png. Then show the package contents of Wallpaperize.app and replace the icon.png file and restart the springboard and you'll be all set.

Hey Spaz, tk here... with the latest 1.1.3 update from the dev team wallpaperize breaks.... the problem is... full ~mobile user compliance it seems.

Which means more work in making a 1.1.x version work across all versions...

For anyone who this is not working for... log in your phone with ssh and type the following

cd /Applications/Wallpaperize.app/
pico wallpaperize

now go and edit all instances of "root" and change to "mobile"
and for ~/Library/Wallpaper change to ~mobile/Library/Wallaper

ctrl+x, y, enter
and you should be good to go ;)

Not sure I have time to find a generic way that will work for all fw though...

Edit: hmmm this appears to only work from command line.... looking for a usable solution

Working wallpaperize script...

PHP:
#!/bin/bash
/Applications/Wallpaperize.app/alert -t "Setting Wallpaper" -p -s 2
/Applications/Wallpaperize.app/alert -t "Saving Wallpaper" -p -s 3
cd /Applications/Wallpaperize.app/tmp
wget `grep 'http://[^ ]*\.jpg' -a -o < /private/var/mobile/Library/Safari/SuspendState.plist`
ls -1 /Applications/Wallpaperize.app/tmp/ | awk '{ print "cp /Applications/Wallpaperize.app/tmp/" $1 " `/Applications/Wallpaperize.app/gen_unique_filename /Library/Wallpaper/ Background_%d.png`" }' |bash
ls -1 /Applications/Wallpaperize.app/tmp/ | tail -1 | awk '{ print "cp /Applications/Wallpaperize.app/tmp/" $1 " ~mobile/Library/LockBackground.jpg" }' |bash
rm -rf /Applications/Wallpaperize.app/tmp/*.jpg
killall -HUP SpringBoard

the catch is you must...
chmod -R 777 ~mobile/Library
chmod -R 777 Wallpaperize.app
and..
chmod -R 777 /Library/Wallpaper

so we can write everywhere we need...
Thanks to pottedmeat from #dojo @FreeNode for helping with the script... this one is even better....
it supports MANY Safari windows open, only grabs ALL the jpgs, writes them to disk, and saves the LAST one as the wallpaper....

not tested on 1.1.2 but does work on 1.1.3
