ATV and optical switch

Hi, so I recently got an ATV to stream music (tv off) or videos (tv on).

I just have one optical input on my stereo so I use a manual/mechanical optical switch (3 optical inputs, one optical output to my stereo). It works well with all of my devices but my ATV : the optical out on the ATV does not work unless it's directly connected to my stereo (no switch in between).

Any idea of what I should do?

I'm running my 3rd gen tv through a manual/remote 3:1 switch that it set through a Harmony remote (along with the proper receiver optical input). I have the bit rate (Audio Output) set to Auto and Dolby Digital set to On.

Is there possibly an incompatibility with the switch? You could try and manually set the tv Audio Output to 16-bit as an experiment.

Only other idea would be to return the switch and try a different make/model.
