I have no experience with Presonus, but I'm curious. How are they at updating drivers? How is the build quality? Is Mac support a secondary thought, or a primary concern? MOTU is definitely geared toward macs, and I've found that they are fast to update drivers, which have always been rock solid for me (I had an 896hd in the past and I currently use a hd192). I'm curious to hear other's experiences.

Well, with the presonus unit I have I haven't installed the drivers yet, so I couldn't tell you about the driver support. I guess that makes mac support a primary concern?

The build quality is pretty good. It feels pretty solid.

It's definitely an issue. I will never buy a Tascam product again because of delays I had getting drivers in a timely manner. Apogee had an issue getting drivers for the Duet out recently, right? Apogee are amazing products, though, and their Mac support is unquestionable.

I used a friend's Presonus FireStudio Project recently, it worked on 10.6 out of the box - no drivers installed.

I didn't know about the Universal Audio Apollo:

It only has 4 mic preamps, but having the ability to buy all of those UAD plugs with off-board dsp's for them, plus firewire and Thunderbolt sounds really interesting. Too bad it lists for $2000 and the plugins themselves are very expensive, but UAD has a few fine-sounding effects included.

Something to consider if you have the dough.
