Apple has been late to the game many times and have done exceptionally well. However, introducing something new when there is no exisiting solution is much easier to gain attraction than introducing when there is already so many solutions. Apple Pay is way more convenient and secure than current solutions, however the banks and so stuck up at using their own systems that I wished they had no system ;) Basically I am just an aussie angry that my bank commbank doesn't support Apple Pay yet, and I am seriously considering changing banks to ANZ.

I made the switch to ANZ from Commbank. Their online system is better as well, simple layout and much less clogged than CBAs. You may as well open up an account, try it out and if you don't like it close it down. ApplePay is worth it.

As for the other Big Three Banks, they may have a case as far as ACCC is concerned, then again it would affect Apple's ability to be competitive within the Technology sector if they're forced to bend to the finance sector.

Yeah i just don't even see the point of apple pay here in Oz. The chip cards are so ingrained here that this seems like a fight that has no point. Even if my bank supported it I doubt I would even use it over my CC. Options for consumers are good but what we have at the moment works so well I think we are trying to fix a problem that does not exist.

Australian banks need to get with the program.

They are posting billions of dollars of profit every quarter, but won't pay Apple the pittance to use their payment service that their customers are yearning for. The banks won't listen to their customers that are the ones lining their pockets. Banks in other countries have jumped on board, why can't we?

I'm personally about to shut down all of my NAB accounts (inc mortgage) and transfer to ANZ - at least they listened to their customers on this one.

Good luck mate. I went the other way a few years back. ANZ are **** compared to WPac I reckon. Westpacs apps are way better.

With pay pass literally everywhere here what's the point of Applepay?

i don't know if it has already been said but, when i read that comment about the banks want their customers to have a choice... yea they have a choice to not use your bank or not use an iPhone. plus i support the apple universe because i don't want to have to choose. i love that it just works. well unless you are in Australia.

For those of us living in countries who've had contactless pay credit and debit cards for years, Apple Pay just ain't that big of a deal.

Are you being ignorant on purpose? What about privacy? What about security? Plus people forget their wallets and keys more often than they forget phones. Nowadays phone is basically an extension of ones arm.

Not so long ago i found one NFC enabled card and if i was some low life criminal i could use it until it was blocked. If i lose my iPhone no one will be able to use it to pay for things.

Why not contact several national and local news outlets and ask them if they wanted to do a story on you and others cancelling their accounts to move to a bank that supports Apple Pay? Say you feel the banks are lying about the situation and framing it as for the customer when it's clear it's about control, privacy intrusion and greed—you know, the only things banks know about.

When you are using your card with Pay Pass you are sharing card number, this allow merchants to track your purchase history and store your credit card number which potentially can be stolen. If you loose your card someone can quickly use it, if you loose your phone it still has extra Touch ID verification before purchase.
Apple Pay is much more convenient because it saves you in moments when you forget your wallet. The goal is to replace your wallet completely so you don't need to carry it.
The main reason of using Apple Pay is security. Every purchase is protected with Touch ID, you get instant Push notifications so you know how much you've spent instantly. When using Apple Pay you don't share your card number with anyone, just temporary one time token.

You're speaking just like an American - the country with the worst CC fraud rate in the world. Contactless pay cards are as secure as Apple Pay - NO PIN required, NO SIGNATURE required and VISA covers me. Try to think more worldly than just your own little domain.

REALLY ... what's the percentage of users that only use 1-1-1-1 or 1-2-3-4 as their passcode ... find an iPhone and away you go UNTIL, just like CC you report it missing or you're somewhere near a means of using Find My Phone.

All this coming from someone who has used Apple Pay on the 1st day of roll-out in Canada - I repeat, Apple Pay just ain't that big a deal.

Agreed, none of these pay systems are a big deal when I can whip out a credit card and swipe it in 1.5 seconds.

The comment stands. But I changed the wording for clarity.
Your comment lays flat on the back.

By the way if no one knows banks of Denmark are actively banning BOON, so if you are visiting Denmark and have Boon Apple pay is not going to work anymore. So much for choice and competition.

Already with ANZ. They're one of the better of the big 4 here in Australia, and wasn't too surprised that they were the first with Apple Pay. Good luck to the other 3 banks, and knowing the government, it'll side with them because, those who are corrupt stick together and protect their own.

Yes, but choosing a weak passcode is down to the user, it's not an inherent unavoidable weakness. And besides, even if the probability of being able to guess the passcode on a "found" iPhone within the allowed number of guesses is 1 in 20, that makes the found iPhone twenty times more secure than a found credit card, mathematically speaking.
