Knowing NAB and Westpac they will come out with their usual spin as they have done on their Facebook pages saying they are open to Apple Pay. Eventually they will cave in because they don't want to look stupid. Shouldn't be too much longer IMO.

EDIT: I discovered this on NAB's FB in response to a customer: I know you’re looking for Apple Pay. We’ll be keeping everyone updated and when we have more to say about Apple Pay we’ll let you know. NAB will be the next bank to cave in.

think they will because Westpac have already invested in paywear (I wear mine on my Apple Watch strap)

As I mentioned in that reply you've quoted you may not be asked for a PIN.

As I mentioned if the financial institution you're with and the merchant supports CDCVM (Consumer Device Cardholder Verification Method) you will not be asked for a PIN on a transaction over $100 in Australia.

As I mentioned, you will get asked for a pin if over $100 on all bank connected terminals...which is ALL terminals. CDC verification is mandatory for any successful purchase or transaction that is linked to the originating terminus.

I'd agree with that but now that two of the big four have it NAB and Westpac are starting to look very stupid with their stance, I think they will cave in a lot sooner than 12 months.

Stupid?? Let me know when you have over a BILLION dollars in capital, Lol

I remember when Westpac announced their paywear, everyone gave them absolute flack on their FB page.

Just so you know, facebook ISN'T 'everyone' and there are many customers actually using it.

No you will not. As I mentioned if the bank supports CDCVM (Consumer Device Cardholder Verification Method) you will not be asked for a PIN on transactions over $100 where the merchants payment terminal also supports CDCVM.

You need to read the link article in my first and second reply and this reply as well.

CDCVM, Allows the PIN to be substituted out for device level verification done via Touch ID or Face ID on device for transactions over $100 in Australia.

What does me having a Billion Dollars captial have to do with Westpac's stance on Apple Pay?
Also tonyduffe is right, I use Apple Pay for my purchases at many different types of terminals and I haven't been asked for a PIN for anything over $100.

If the bank has enabled CDCVM on Apple Pay and the terminal has CDCVM enabled, it uses your fingerprint instead of your pin in order to verify purchases over $100. That's dumb language, read more about it here: https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT202527

Australia had tap and go for years. It's incredible popular here. Most people don't even carry cash ever.
Vending machines, sushi joints everywhere accept contactless payments so apple pay is available everywhere. It's baffling that places like "wall-mart" or what ever the american stores are called don't accept apple pay for some observed reason.

What ever retailer has a POS terminal from the last 10 years that accept contactless, accepts apple pay by default.

USA was well ahead in acceptance by banking system, which recognized huge benefits at minimal cost (.015%) for them; however, merchant acceptance was slowed by three things:

1) POS lacked machines with NFC readers as banking system was slow to implement "chipped" cards, so no need for merchants to switch over to more advanced machines.
2) Customer awareness. Even now, bulk of consumers are unaware of how tap and pay works or that it is available.
3) Even though Apple Pay is free to merchants, largest companies like Walmart, CVS, Target, feared losing access to customer data AND they thought they could capture fees like Apple.

Good news is that it appears to be reaching critical mass. Two-thirds of merchants take it, and large merchants are falling in line; Target accepted on line, but was a huge holdout at stores. Walmart still doesn't want to give up on Walmart Pay, but will eventually have to give in as customers won't use multiple systems and Apple Pay will soon be ubiquitous.

Because in the US we use what’s called fully integrated POS terminals. In Australia it’s either non integrated or semi integrated. The Walmart ones support Apple Pay, they’re just disabled.

Also I live in the US and never carried cash ever. My wallet doesn’t even have a slot for cash.

Seems like US is moving to a semi integrated system though however, right?

I would assume that’s normal, I can’t believe you even asked.

You miss a bank? Lol what on earth could you miss from an institution that screws over customers with high mortgage & credit card fees??

Paid for a $100+ dinner tonight via Apple Pay. Can confirm I did not have to enter a PIN.

Have also made AMEX purchases via Apple Pay over $500 and did not get asked for a PIN (A couple years ago).

Purchase biometrics are considered a better alternative to PINs, thus are seen as more secure?

You talk like a bank employee or PR person. PayWear? Seriously?

I can't remember the last time I had to "authenticate" with a pin. I even paid a (huge) car service with ApplePay.

It's up and running on Westpac now :) (at least in NZ; I can't test AU).

Yep, that now means both NAB and Westpac offer Apple Pay in New Zealand.

Lucky you, you had me excited there but nothing from Westpac Australia. Useless numpties. I'll keep using my ANZ and CBA accounts until they join the party which is apparently imminent.

Yep, It looks like it’s only going to be New Zealand for now at least.

Sorry to get your hopes up; usually Australia gets things first, or at the same time. Hopefully you won't need to wait too much longer!
